Abstract

The purposes of this research was to learns (1) the effect of adding moisture content to the permeability of sand casting; (2) the effect of adding moisture content to the compressive strength of sand casting; and (3) the effect of adding moisture content to porosity defects in casting results. This research is conducted at Manufacturing Polytechnic, Ceper, Klaten. The method that used is pre-experimental design with design one-shot case study. The independent variable in this research are variations of moisture content of 4%, 6%, and 8%, with the dependent variable are permeability and compressive strength of sand casting, and porosity defect of Al-Si alloy cast. The permeability test by using permeability meter, compressive strength test by using universal strength machine¸ and porosity defect test of cast result on qualitative with visual observation and quantitative with calculation of porosity percentage.  The results of  the adding of moisture content  of 4%, 6%, and 8% in the sand casting showed that: (1) The higher the addition of water measure on sand casting decrease the permeability value. The highest permeability value in the addition of 4% water measure is 103.67 cm3/min, while the lowest in the addition of 8% water measure is 83.00 cm3/min; (2) The higher water content in the printed sand further decreases the value of its compressive strength. The lowest compressive strength value occurred at 8% water measure increase of 39.00 KN/m2, while the highest value of compressive strength was obtained at 4% water measure addition 47.56 KN/m2; (3) The higher water measure of sand casting will result in a higher percentage of porosity defects on the casting results. The lowest percentage of porosity defect was obtained by adding 4% water measure is 1.56% from total volume, while the highest was 8% water measure is 3.06% from total volume.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the number of blades on the performance of a grass chopping machine, particularly on working capacity, chopping time, and the quality of chopping results, as well as to identify the most optimal blade. The research method employed was an experimental approach with a quantitative design using two variations in the number of blades, namely 4 blades and 6 blades. The tests were conducted using a grass chopping machine powered by a 5.5 HP gasoline engine operating at 2300 RPM, with elephant grass used as the test material. Each variation was tested five times under the same conditions. The performance of the machine was evaluated based on working capacity (kg/hour), chopping time (seconds), and the quality of chopping results measured by the average length of the chopped grass (cm). The results showed that the number of blades significantly affected the machine performance. The average working capacity produced by 6 blades was 274,446 kg/hour, higher than 4 blades which produced 194,698 kg/hour. The fastest chopping time using 6 blades was 12,49 seconds, while 4 blades required 17,18 seconds. In terms of chopping quality, 6 blades produced finer results with an average length of 4,16 cm compared to 4 blades with an average length of 4,52 cm. These findings indicate that the use of 6 blades provides more optimal performance in increasing working capacity, reducing chopping time, and improving the quality of chopped grass.

Abstract

The development of this fast era makes competition to get a job to increase and become more difficult. In the current competition in the industrial world, it demands an increase in the quality of Human Resources through education. Vocational High School Education also prepares its graduates to go directly into the world of industry, but there are still limitations between the need for human resources in industry and the human resources produced by educational institutions. So therefore Curriculum development in Vocational High Schools is developed by prioritizing the needs of society, one of which is the need to be able to compete directly in industry. The aims of this research are: (1) To find out the alignment process between the SMK curriculum and industry. (2) Knowing how far the curriculum in SMK is aligned with the world of work in industry. (3) Knowing whether the SMK curriculum with industry is feasible.  The method used in the automotive concentration curriculum alignment activities at SMKs uses a qualitative approach with descriptive research. Data collection techniques using techniquespupose sampling. Data collection techniques in this study used data collection techniques in the form of interviews, documents, and observations. The research documents include the Merdeka Curriculum, K13 Curriculum, service books, vehicle inspection sheets, and the results of the FGD minutes. Data analysis techniques in this study used content analysis techniques (analysis content). The research locations were limited to 2 SMK, namely: SMKN 2 Surakarta and SMK Warga Surakarta and three industries, namely: Toyota Nasmoco Ringroad, Daihatsu Adi Sucipto, and Suzuki Pabelan (PT. Solo Indonesia Utama). The data obtained is then juxtaposed between the curriculum and competencies in the industry in tabular form so that it can be seen which curriculum and competencies are not aligned. The results of this study are: The curriculum between automotive engineering vocational schools and industrial competencies is aligned, this is evidenced by the existenceforum grub discussion (FGD) between the SMK and the automotive industry.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the effect of Hydrocarbon Crack System (HCS) on torque and power of Suzuki Satria FU150 motorcycle and the effect of HCS with variation of gasoline (Premium, Pertalite and Pertamax) on torque and power of Suzuki Satria FU150 motorcycle. This research was conducted in Automotive Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering Education Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Sebelas Maret University Surakarta and at PT. Motocourse Technology (MOTOTECH). This type of research is experiment research with quantitative approach. The sample of this research is Suzuki Satria FU150  with serial police number R 2764 BM The sampling obtainable using purposive sampling technique. The data obtained from the torque and power engine measurement using dynotest. Based on the research result, it concluded that there is an effect of using Hydrocarbon Crack System (HCS) to torque and power of Suzuki Satria FU150. The use HCS with Pertamax is the most increasing the torque and power if compared to Premium and Pertalite.

Abstract

The duration of the internship program in Indonesia has changed, from 3 months to 6 months. Increasing the duration of the internship program requires a supportive monitoring model, considering the problem of student attendance and the limited costs of monitoring the internship program. The AppSheet platform is a solution that needs to be developed and implemented as a support tool for student monitoring. The research method uses a qualitative phenomenological, to find out the results of implementing the AppSheet application as an online attendance and recap of the attendance of automotive engineering students at SMK N 5 Surakarta during the internship program from April 1 to September 30, 2023. Observation Interview data and documentation are presented in text form descriptive narrative, through interactive analysis techniques. As a result, the AppSheet application helps teachers monitor student attendance during industrial work practices, makes it easier to detect student absences, and becomes the basis for providing personal and group guidance for students who experience problems during the internship program.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop composite learning practicum module based on project based learning at hand lay-up fabrication materials. This study means to fulfill the needs of composite subject at Mechanical Engineering Education Department in Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Sebelas Maret University. The method used in this study is the development based on the ADDIE (Analysis-Design-Development-Implement-Evaluate) model. Students of Mechanical Engineering Education Department are subject of this study. Questionnaire technique is used for Data collection. This method and technique are carried out to assess the development of composite practicum module content in terms of material, pedagogic, and language. Quantitative analysis techniques was conducted based on the the answers to the questionnaires. This study have an outcome to make even better composite practicum module with enhanced material, pictures, and evaluation. The rating score obtained from subject is 47,61 with very good criteria. The conclusions of this study are: (1) the development of composite learning practicum module based on project based learning has been done with eligibility standard. Therefore, it suitable as a guidebook for doing a proper composite practicum at Mechanical Engineering Education Department. (2) the developed composite learning practicum module has been done through FGD with lectures, then it being implemented on composite practicum activities, and it was rated by subject with average score 47,61 out of 52 that shows very good criteria. This developed practicum module is expected as a guidebook to help students doing proper composite practicum from preparation, analysis, self manufacturing, and able to improve abilities and skills.

Abstract

Hot / warm water is needed, especially for bathing purposes. Hot air used for bathing purposes is usually mixed with cold air whose mixture temperature reaches 35ºC to 40ºC. To take advantage of hot water, one of them is to use a water heater which is commonly called a water heater. The aims of this study were (1) to design and manufacture a water heater, (2) to obtain the relationship between air flow and the temperature of the air coming out of the water heater, (3) to obtain a relationship between air flow and the rate of heat transfer received and (4) to obtain a relationship between the flow rate of the water heater. water with water heater efficiency.The designed water heater produces variations in exhaust gas disposal and to obtain data, research is carried out in the laboratory.The results of the research process found that a water heater with a chimney and a blower is the best construction among the 2 other models in this study, with the data: (1) Water heater that is able to compete with water heaters on the market, which is able to produce air heat with a temperature of: 35.4 oC at a flow rate of 7.2 liters/minute, (2) The relationship between the flow of air (m) and the temperature of the water heater (To) can be expressed by the equation: To = –0.2215m3 + 4, 5633m2 – 29.935m + 96,878 (m in liters/minute, To in oC) (3) The relationship between flowing water and the rate of heat transfer is expressed by the equation: qair = –2.6026m3 + 6.9591m2 + 302.15m + 2536,7 (m in liters/minute, Qair in watts) (d) The relationship between flowing water and efficient water heaters can be expressed by the equation: = –0.0376m3 + 0.1006m2 + 4.3666m + 36.66 ( m in liters/minute, in percent).

Abstract

Predictive Maintenance (PdM) based on the Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a strategic approach to improve equipment reliability, reduce unplanned downtime, and optimize maintenance costs in manufacturing industries. However, despite the rapid advancement of PdM technologies, studies focusing on their economic evaluation remain relatively limited. This study aims to identify the economic evaluation methods used in PdM-IoT literature, analyze the reported economic benefits, identify key implementation challenges, and propose future research directions. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted following the PRISMA protocol. Literature was collected from Scopus, Google Scholar, and IEEE Xplore databases for the period 2019–2025. From an initial pool of 268 publications, 20 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed in depth. The findings indicate that Return on Investment (ROI) and Net Present Value (NPV) are the most frequently used methods for evaluating the economic feasibility of PdM-IoT implementation. The reported benefits include reduced maintenance costs, minimized downtime, improved asset availability, and enhanced operational efficiency. Nevertheless, several challenges remain, including high initial investment costs, data integration complexity, sensor infrastructure requirements, and difficulties in quantifying indirect economic benefits. The study concludes that economic evaluation plays a crucial role in supporting PdM-IoT investment decisions and highlights the need for more comprehensive evaluation frameworks tailored to specific industrial contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of voltage variations in box power ignition on the fuel consumption of a 2011 Honda Supra X 125 motorcycle. One way is to use box power ignition. The research method used is experimental. This research data was obtained using samples of Honda Supra X 125 motorcycle in 2011. The independent variable is the use of box power ignition with voltage variations of 14.4 V to 15.9 V. The dependent variable fuel consumption measured through stationary and road tests on predetermined routes. The maximum fuel consumption in stationary tests was obtained at a voltage variation of 14.7 V, measuring 2.54 ml/minute, a decrease of 0.98 ml/minute. The average fuel consumption increase was 3.55 ml/min. The maximum fuel consumption in road tests was obtained at a voltage variation of 15.3 V, measuring 28.13 m/ml, an increase of 11.46 m/ml. The average fuel consumptionincrease was 22.92 m/ml from the standard condition.

Abstract

The study in Aerodynamics has shifted from large theoretical curriculum into authentic learning experiences in response to the industry requirement. In addition, the development of computational methods has revolutionized the design cycle in aerodynamics. This work describes an integrated approach in an undergraduate Aerodynamics course using the Kolb’s Learning cycle. Experiential learning is incorporated in the class to provide more opportunities for students to understand the theoretical concept through experiencing the applications and impact of the concept in real life. The Finite Element Method (FEM) which is widely used in analyzing many engineering problems was integrated into the Aerodynamics theory and application to visualize changes of parameter in the design phase.  The main learning objective of the developed learning module is to apply appropriate aerodynamics models to predict the forces on and performance of a vehicle design. The module is assessed by instructor before being applied for the students in the classroom. It is considered to be an effective method for learning when lectures and computation works are integrated in a meaningful manner.   This development research is expected to be able to produce graduates who are competent in the field of design.
