Abstract

Badminton smash performance requires the integration of anthropometric characteristics, upper-limb strength, flexibility, and sport-specific stroke execution. This study examined the contribution of body height, arm muscle strength, and flexibility to badminton smash performance among students of the Faculty of Sport Science, Universitas Negeri Makassar. A quantitative descriptive-correlational design with regression analysis was used. The sample consisted of 40 students who had programmed badminton coursework. Body height was measured using an anthropometric height test, arm muscle strength through a 20-second push-up test, flexibility through a backward trunk-flexibility test, and smash performance through a badminton smash skill test. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, Pearson correlation, simple regression, and multiple regression. The findings showed that body height, arm muscle strength, and flexibility were positively and significantly correlated with smash performance. In the multiple regression model, the three predictors jointly explained 69.8% of the variance in smash performance, with arm muscle strength emerging as the strongest predictor. However, flexibility was not a significant partial predictor after body height and arm muscle strength were controlled. These findings indicate that smash performance is primarily supported by upper-limb strength, while body height and flexibility function as complementary physical factors. Training programs should integrate arm-strength development, flexibility exercises, anthropometric consideration, and smash-specific technical practice.

Abstract

This study examined the effects of passive and active shooting training on shooting accuracy among 12-year-old football players at Persatuan Sepak Bola Dasan Agung. A quantitative quasi-experimental two-group pretest-posttest design was used. The sample comprised 20 players aged 12 years, divided equally into passive shooting and active shooting groups. Shooting accuracy was assessed through a target-based shooting test from 16.5 meters. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, assumption tests, paired-sample t-tests, gain score comparison, correlation analysis, and simple regression. The passive group increased from a mean pretest score of 8.50 to 13.30 at posttest, whereas the active group increased from 5.90 to 11.40. Both groups showed significant within-group improvement. However, the gain score comparison was not significant, t (18) = -0.70, p = 0.493. These findings indicate that both methods improve shooting accuracy, but neither method demonstrated statistically superior effectiveness in this sample. The results provide evidence for combining controlled and dynamic shooting drills in youth coaching.

Abstract

Shooting accuracy in the 10-meter air pistol event requires postural stability, fine motor control, concentration, and the ability to sustain performance throughout repeated shooting sequences, highlighting the need for physical conditioning that supports consistent athletic performance. This study aimed to analyze the effects of core-stability-based balance training and fartlek-based aerobic endurance training on shooting accuracy among 10-meter air pistol athletes. A quantitative quasi-experimental approach with a two-group pretest-posttest design was employed. Ten athletes from a population of 21 were selected through purposive sampling and allocated by ordinal pairing to a balance training group (n = 5) and an aerobic endurance training group (n = 5). The interventions were conducted for five weeks at a frequency of four sessions per week, while shooting accuracy was assessed using a 60-shot 10-meter air pistol test. The balance group improved from 530.40 ± 9.10 to 537.40 ± 7.00 (p = 0.003; d = 0.896), whereas the aerobic endurance group improved from 528.80 ± 13.60 to 538.60 ± 11.70 (p = 0.005; d = 0.938). The difference in improvement between groups was not statistically significant (p = 0.254). These findings indicate that both training models can improve shooting accuracy and may serve as complementary physical-conditioning.
