Abstract

Abstract

Ecoprint is a technique to create patterns on fabric or other materials using natural substances as dyes. This ecoprint technique employs natural materials such as leaves and flowers. Nowadays, ecoprint can be applied to various items, including tote bags. The production of ecoprinted tote bags represents a new step in promoting environmentally friendly products. During the Student Community Service Learning (Kuliah Kerja Nyata or KKN) of the second period of academic year 2023 at Gadjah Mada University, in Unit YO057 located in the Mlati region, specifically in the Tirtoadi Village, the theme of "Poverty Alleviation” waschosen. One of the initiated program was the "Development of Business Culture Through the Dissemination of Ecoprint Making to member of housewives society in the Sanggrahan Hamlet, Tirtoadi Village, as an Effort to Develop Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM)." Community engagement activities related to this theme were carried out through the dissemination of ecoprint making, resulting in the production of environmentally friendly tote bags. The collaborative creation of ecoprinted tote bags with the member of housewives society of RT 03 Dukuh Sanggrahan aims to develop their talents and enable them to establish micro home-based businesses. The pounding technique is an easily accessible ecoprinting method that can be applied during activities with the members of housewives society. The ecoprint creation process produces finished products in the form of tote bags with ecoprint motifs, utilizing natural materials such as leaves found around RT 03 Dukuh Sanggrahan. The member of housewives society of RT 03 Dukuh Sanggrahan demonstrated their ability to produce environmentally friendly tote bags using the ecoprint pounding technique. With the implementation of this activity, it is hoped that the role of women in Dukuh Sanggrahan will expand, providing opportunities for home-based businesses and contributing to positive sustainability effects in the future.

Abstract

The conventional approach to dry cardamom using sunlight is ineffective to be conducted in village that has high rain intensity and low ambient temperature. In the dry season, cardamom needs to be dried for 4-5 effective days, meanwhile, when it's the rainy season, it would take 14-16 days. The weather and the high prices of dryer machines in Burno Village, Senduro District, Lumajang Province, Indonesia, force the cardamom farmers to sell their cardamom in the form of wet cardamom, although it would reduce 80% of their revenues. This program aims to create a low-cost cardamom dryer to empower farmer groups in Burno Village to make their own dryer from used goods. Collaborating with the Tanirejo farmer group, this program managed to create a prototype of a dryer machine for cardamom which will reduce the drying time by 86% from 2,090 minutes to 277 minutes. By implementing this low-cost dryer, farmers can dry their cardamom efficiently, increase their revenue, and improve their overall economic stability.

Abstract

Jolosutro is one of the hamlets in Piyungan District, Bantul Regency that has various tourism development potentials. These potentials are due to the fact that Jolosutro is closely related to the history of Sunan Geseng, its heritage sites, cultural activities, and local gastronomy. This study aims to analyze the potentials and problems in Community-Based Tourism (CBT) planning in the Jolosutro area. This research uses an applied qualitative approach with the Napak Tilas method in the form of observation, documentation, and focus group discussions. Napak Tilas Sunan Geseng was conducted together with the local community, the tourism awareness group (Pokdarwis), Srimulyo Village Government, and KKN-PPM UGM 2023 team. This method was chosen to be developed for several reasons, such as being able to implement the CBT concept, maintaining the continuity of local wisdom, having the opportunity to present experience-based tourism to tourists, and having the potential to provide economical welfare for the community. However, based on the Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat (SWOT) analysis, there is still a need for some improvement of this tourism, including road access issues, supporting facilities at each site, as well as maintenance and revitalization of existing sites.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical phase of life characterised by rapid physical, emotional, and psychological changes. Posyandu Remaja, a community-based health program tailored for adolescents, has gained attention for its potential to address various health issues during this pivotal period. This article aims to provide an overview of the consistent implementation of Posyandu Remaja in Tempel and Wedung Villages, Demak, Central Java, shedding light on adolescent health in the area. This is an interesting topic because not all regions in Indonesia have implemented Posyandu Remaja. Data collection techniques were carried out through qualitative interviews with midwives from each village regarding Posyandu Remaja and also health checks such as anthropometric, blood pressure and HB (hemoglobin) examinations as part of Posyandu Remaja activities and to provide an overview of adolescent health in the area. The interviews delved into the midwives' perspectives regarding the program's impact, strengths, challenges, and areas for improvement. Observation of health issues and evaluation of Posyandu Remaja in each village also have been carried out during community service activities through health interventions by KKN PPM UGM JT-133 team. The findings highlight the significant role of Posyandu Remaja in raising health awareness among adolescents. Posyandu Remaja serves as a valuable platform for enhancing adolescent health knowledge, fostering positive behavioural changes, and creating a supportive community environment for adolescents. To maximise its impact, activities in Posyandu Remaja are made varied. In addition to health examination or health education, activities that enhance soft skills or artistic skills among adolescents have been conducted. Thus, the adolescents can develop their self-confidence, proficiency, and are physically and mentally healthy. The holistic approach of Posyandu Remaja demonstrates its potential to shape a healthier and more informed younger generation, laying the foundation for improved overall public health in the long term.

Abstract

edunan is one of the villages that produce woven fabrics in Indonesia. Woven fabric is a textile product that is listed as the original intangible cultural heritage of Indonesia. Woven fabrics are generally known as Indonesia’s local cultural wisdom, woven fabrics also become Indonesia's export products that have high economic value. However, despite its potential, it turns out that the Tedunan’s woven fabric business faced serious problems. One of the bigger issues in developing Tedunan’s woven business is the trend of fast fashion products. The existence of this trend has an impact on the declining interest of the Indonesian people to buy local clothing products such as woven and batik. Furthermore, the existence of garment and textile factories around Tedunan Village gave an impact on reducing interest of youth to become woven craftsmen. This case becomes worse because the potential of Tedunan’s woven fabrics will become extinct due to the lack of regeneration of woven craftsmen. Therefore, the existence of this research program aims to help Tedunan woven cloth craftsmen in developing their business. In addition, this program aims to provide analysis and recommendations in building the Tedunan’s Woven business centre by developing synergy and collaboration as an effort to achieve a sustainable economy. Data collection in this study was carried out by observation and in-depth interviews with the Tedunan’s Woven craftsmans and village governments to find out the root of these problems. There are four main problems in the Tedunan’s woven business, such as lack of capital, production, marketing, and regeneration. Therefore, the programs are designed on answering all existing problems, such as a program for mapping the potential and problems of the Tedunan’s woven business, preparing a roadmap for policy recommendations, program for making documentary videos, and digital marketing workshop. All of these programs are purposed to provide insight to the community about steps to develop the Tedunan’s woven fabric business so that it can impact toward the social and economic well-being in the long term.
