Abstract

ABSTRACT Work environment is one of the main sources of potential health hazard. Noise is one of the factors found in work environment. It can cause someone who is exposed to noise to be in the state of stress.The research was an analytical survey with cross sectional method. The population was 12 employees who worked in the Power House division of PT. Humbahas Bumi Energi, using total sampling technique. The result of the research showed that the average noise in the Power House division of PT. Humbahas Bumi Energy was 95 dBA (exceeding the threshold of 85 dBA). The result of work stress symptom showed that 3 respondents (25%) were in mild stress category, 7 respondents (58,3%) were in moderate stress category and 2 respondents (16,7%) were in severe stress category. The result of Spearman correlation test showed that the significance value (2-sided) was 0,001 (p ≤ 0,05) which indicated that there was significant correlation between noise exposure and work stress symptom. The result for analytic test in the Power House of PT. Humbahas Bumi Energi at the r value = 0,851 and contribution among the variables was 72,42%. The conclusion of the research was that there was significant correlation between noise exposure and work stress symptom in the employees in the Power House division of PT. Humbahas Bumi Energi. The noise which was above the thanthreshold was reduced by installing silencer like elastic bolster on the machine or lining the wall, ceiling and the floor with noise absorbing device. Abstract

ABSTRACT One of the work environments which cause the health disorder for workers is extreme heat exposure. A heat environment cause the additional load for heart in pumping blood an increases the pulse. PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Bah Butong Plantation, is one of plantation businesses and factory in tea processing. In the drying station, the workers directly exposure by extreme heat work environment from drying machines. The study was an analytic survey with cross- sectional design. The population were 28 workers, and all of them were used as the samples, using total sampling technique. Bivariate analysis with chi square statistic test used to find out the correlation between heat stress and worker’s pulse. The measurement of heat stress was conducted by using Questtemp.It were found that 5 workers had heat stress qualify and 23 workers did not. The measurement of worker's pulse was conducted by using palpation method with stopwatch. It were found that before and after work, 6 workers had normal pulse and 22 workers had increase pulse. The result of statistic test showed that there was significant correlation between heat stress and worker's pulse in the workers at PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Bah Butong Plantation, in 2015. It is recommended that the workers drink plain water as frequently as possible in order to return the lost of body liquid  during working. Using the uniform which consist of the materials that are not produce heat is quite recommended. Keywords: Workers, Drying Station, Heat Stress, Pulse

Abstract

ABSTRACT Milk is a food that has a high nutritional value, but are easily damaged. Sp penicilium presence of mold and yeast in a beverage can endanger the health of consumers. This can lead to food poisoning and drinks. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence of Penicillium fungi and yeast as well as to determine the physical characteristics of the milk include color, smell and taste of milk in the milk beverage packaging and fresh milk which is circulated in Medan in 2015. This study was a descriptive type. The data collected was obtained from the results of tests carried out in the Laboratory of Microbiology Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences USU. Samples were 8 types of packaging milk and 2 types of fresh milk in circulation in the city of Medan in 2015. Data analysis was performed by analysis of frequency distribution that states the research object under study. Based on laboratory test results, three of the eight positive samples containing the fungal yeast. Two samples of which were sweetened condensed milk packaged in cans and plastic sachets. While the other sample is UHT milk in plastic bottles. Based on the results of laboratory tests on fresh milk, not the discovery of either fungus penicillium fungi and yeasts. Suggestions from this study is the Importance of cooperation with BPOM to conduct socialization to milk producers shall include the date of expiration, For the milk producers, should be maintaining the quality of milk produced. For consumers, should pay attention to the expiration date and the condition of the packaging of dairy products to be consumed. To further research, it is advisable to do some research using variables more varied. Keywords: Penicillium, yeast, milk.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Hygiene of Food equipment have a important role in growth and spread of the pathogenic organism. Food equipment must be maintained to avoid the contamination of germs such as Escherichia coli. The aim of this study was to analyze the hygiene sanitation condition of food processing and examination of Escherichia coli bacteria in food equipment in the cafeteria University of Sumatera Utara 2015.This study is a quantitative research . The study was conducted in 16 cafeteria at the University of Sumatera Utara. This study uses observation sheets to see the hygiene and sanitation of food and laboratory testing for the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria that will be meet with regulation in Kepmenkes No. 1098 / Menkes / SK / VII / 2003 The result of this research found conditions of hygiene and sanitation of food processing based on physical conditions of the location and the building, as well as the six principles of hygiene sanitation food was good but in terms of canteen facilities, the condition of the kitchen, dining room, and the building of foodstuffs as well as in the provision of food equipment to eat is still relatively poorly , There were 8 canteen that contained the bacteria Escherichia coli. It is recommended that food seller in University of Sumatera Utara should pay more attention canteen facilities, the condition of the kitchen, dining room, and building materials as well as in the provision of food equipment eat. Abstract

ABSTRACTScavengers are groups of people who seek and collect solid waste that still has economic value. The scavengers usually take out the waste in the trash while or in landfill. Supervisory of the landfill was originally not allow scavengers to collect waste in the landfill because they can be exposed to sharp objects and disease. Over time, the scavengers eventually left to work at the landfill. Number of scavengers in TPA Terjun today is 500 people. The role of scavengers at the landfill is still unknown whether it can help reduce landfill waste in the landfill.This research is a descriptive research with quantitative analysis. The goal is to find out what the role of a scavenger in the management of waste in the landfill. The sample size observed was 30 people.The research result shows that the volume of waste that goes into TPA Terjun every day was 3.868,57 m3 while the amount of waste that can be managed by scavengers every day is 89,02 m3. Thus, the volume of landfill waste left in TPA Terjun every day was 3.779,55 m3.The conclusion from this study is that the scavenger role in waste management and solid waste generation did not show a reduction in the volume of landfill waste in TPA Terjun. Ability scavengers in reducing the volume of waste in TPA Terjun only by 2,3%. Thus, the percentage of residual landfill waste in TPA Terjun every day is 97,7%.The government should develop a technology that not only destroy the waste but also making use of waste as alternative energy sources as well as supporting the role of scavengers in reducing waste in TPA Terjun, Medan.Keywords : Scavengers, Waste Management, Volume of Waste

Abstract

ABSTRACTDiscomfort can occur in the environment of school, one of them is thenoise. Noise that occurs when subjects ongoing impact on the learning process,which is one of the disruption of the concentration of students. The research wasconducted at the State Primary School 067240 Medan Tembung District whichaims to find out the difference in the level of concentration towards the studentsbefore and after the noise due to railway crossings.This method of this research is pre-experimental design by using onegroup and pre-test post-test. The sample of this research is also using purposivesampling technique which consists of 58 students. The level of noise wasmeasured by using a Sound Level Meter and level of concentration of studentswas measured using a Stroop Test. Data analysis is using non-parametricstatistical tests (Wilcoxon tes t) and Parametric Test (paired t-test) at the 95%significance level.The results showed that in general the average noise level in theclassroom before and while the train passed the railway crossing exceeds thequality standards that have been established in the amount of 55 dB. Other resultsalso showed that the results of interference score of students before the railroadcrossing with a mean of 13,59 and after the railway crossing at 17,40. Thisindicates that the concentration of students has decreased when compared withpretest posttest. Based on the test results of wilcoxon test is known, there are thedifferences in the level of concentration towards the students before and after thenoise due to railway crossing (p. = 0,001).Based on the results of this research are expected to the school in order toreduce the noise while is coming from the rail traffic. Such as the installation ofblind or curtain on the window class, the use of firm window on the outside walltowards the class which is passing of the train tracks, and the use of noisedampening vegetation.Keywords: The level of the noise, Concentration of the students, Stroop Test,Sound Level Meter

ABSTRACT Formalin is substance which is banned to be added in food according to the regulation of Indonesia Health Minister Number 1168/Health Minister/Regulation/X/1999 But many manufacturers still use formalin to make durable import fruits to maintain the freshness of fruit because importing fruits from the origin country to Indonesia needs long time. The objective of this research is to know how many formalin in import fruits which is sold in some supermarket in Medan This research is survey research in descriptive. The methode of the research is laboratory check of apple imports, grape imports, and orange imports by iodimetri titration. Based on laboratory result from import fruits, can be known that all number of sample from import fruits contain formalin. The highest Formalin content in Calmeria Grapes from America is 4,692 mg/ml, Fuji Apple from Japan is 4,552 mg/ml, and Red Delicious Apple from America is 4,412 mg/ml, and the lowest formalin is in Imperial Seed Orange from Australia is 1,610 mg/ml. It is suggested to government to tighten the controls of importing fruits in to country to prevent the coming fruits which have dangerous content like formalin. Suggested to BPOM to monitor, control, and educate about formalin using as added substance in food. It is suggested also to people to be selective in choosing import fruits to consume. Suggested for further research done by comparing the levels of formaldehyde in import fruits peeled with import fruits not peeled . And comparing the levels of formaldehyde in import fruits before washing with after washing . Key Word : Formalin, Import Fruits

Abstract

ABSTRACT Work fatique affects a work energy depression and body endurance weakening to work, and also causes workers to stop their works and take rest time. This research had aim to know correlation between work fatique with work productivity in PT.Wijaya Karya Beton Medan wire caging section. The design of this research was analytic with cross sectional design. The population was 36 workers and sample was 24 people with purposive sampling method. Work fatique data was collected by interview with International Fatigue Research Committee questionnaire and data collecting about productivity was done with productivity questionnaire. To know the correlation between independent variable and dependent variable is done by using statistic test with Ranks Spearmen Test. All of process wire caging is done by each group. The result of research showed work fatique feeling by worker was on low level work fatique category was 14 people (58,3%) and medium level work fatique category was 10 people (41,7%).Appropriate individual productivity 16 people was (66,7%) and inappropriate individual productivity was 8 people (33,3%). Appropriate collective productivity were two groups (50%) and inappropriate group productivity were two groups (50%). The result of statistic test (CI=0,05) obtain p-value 0,034 showed significant correlation between work fatique and productivity. It is suggested for workers to stretching in every two hours of time working in order to reduce work fatique and use their rest time properly to have body recovery well processed. Abstract

ABSTRACTLow back pain can reduce work productivity. Based on Indonesian Community Oriented Program for Control of Rheumatic Disease shows the prevalence of low back painfor male was 18,2% and for female was 13,6%. Low back pain complaint dosen’t recognize the difference of age, sex, job, social status or education degree.The purpose of this study is to find the factors that has correlation with backpain complain with rahayu medan 103 bus driver in 2015.This study is analytic survey with study design done using cross sectional. Analysis that is used is univariat analysis, bivariat analysisi with fisher test.The study population is all the buss driver of Rahayu Medan Ceria 103 in Medan as many 150 people. And the number of samples in this study are 33 people which is took usingsampling purposive method which mean the determining sample done by considering certain criterias that determine by researcher that is suitable with the study purpose. Thestudy location done in pancur batu buss base as the gathering place for rahayu medan ceria 103 buss driver.From the study result, it is obtained p values from every variables are: age (p value =0,485), work period (p=1,000) worktime (p value =0,085) smoking habi (p values = 0,119)., imt (p value= 1,000). This study result shows that from all variables p values gained> 0,05 there is no significant correlation between age, work period, worktime and smoking habit towards low back pain complaint with rahayu medan ceria 103 buss driver in medan in 2015.It is suggested to rahayu medan ceria buss driver to do muscles relaxation or relaxing their muscles before starting their work, it’s also better for the driver to rest for 1 hour every 1 round wo minimize low back pain complaint, and the driver also consuming enough water to do their activities.Keywords : Low back pain, age, work period, worktime, smoking habit, IMT
