Abstract

Rheum webbianum Royle, commonly referred to as Himalayan rhubarb, has been extensively utilized in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and Unani. Despite its traditional and pharmacological significance, comprehensive toxicity studies are necessary to ensure its safety. This study investigates the acute and the sub-acute oral toxicity of the ethyl acetate extract of Rheum webbianum Royle in Wistar rat models. The acute toxicity assessment was performed using female rats, administered a single oral dose of 500 mg/kg and 2500 mg/kg body weight, and observed over 14 days for any toxicological manifestations. Similarly, the sub-acute toxicity study involved the administration of daily oral doses of 200 mg/kg, 400 mg/kg, and 800 mg/kg to both male and female rats for 28 days. Throughout the experimental period, all animals were rigorously monitored for any alterations in behavior, morphology, or physiological functions, as well as for any mortality occurrences. The findings from the treated groups were systematically compared with those of the control group to evaluate potential toxic effects. Body weight was recorded weekly, and on days 15 and 29, all animals were sacrificed for the assessment of organ weights, hematological and biochemical parameters, as well as gross and microscopic pathology. No mortality or notable behavioral alterations were observed in the rats at the administered doses, during the acute and sub-acute oral toxicity evaluations. Consequently, it was established that the median lethal dose (LD50) of the plant extract, exceeds 5000 mg/kg. The biochemical parameters were found to be within normal ranges, and histopathological analysis revealed no evidence of toxicity. This indicates that the extract concentrations used in the study do not exert toxic effects on organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys, and brain. Thus, we can conclude that the root and rhizome extract of Rheum webbianum Royle is non-toxic at high doses over short periods of use. However, further research may be needed for extended use of the extract.

Abstract

This article discusses in depth the problems of the health service system in West Lampung Regency which is still not running optimally. One of the main issues of concern is the absence of a Type A Hospital in the area, which has a significant impact on the limited medical facilities and quality of services available to the community. This study aims to identify factors that cause limited quality of health services, analyze the role of local governments in efforts to improve health services, and examine their impact on the welfare of the local community. The methods used in this study are site surveys and interviews. Site surveys were conducted at various health service facilities in West Lampung Regency to directly observe the condition of infrastructure, the availability of medical personnel, and other supporting facilities. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted with health workers, community leaders, and local government officials to obtain further information regarding structural barriers and the role of policy in developing the health system. Through a political sociology approach, this article provides a critical analysis of the inequality of access to health services and its implications for social structure and community welfare. It is expected that the results of this study can provide real contributions in formulating strategic policies to improve and enhance health services in West Lampung Regency in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the most common and deadly cancers in women, and numerous studies have sought to identify the molecular and cellular factors involved in its onset and progression. Oxidative stress, defined as an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidant systems, plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of many chronic diseases, including cancer. This article examines the effects of oxidative stress in breast cancer and analyzes its relationship with genetic damage, as well as protein and lipid alterations, and metastatic processes. ROS can inflict significant damage on cellular structures through the oxidation of DNA, proteins, and lipids, leading to genetic mutations, chromosomal instability, and disruptions in essential cellular processes such as cell proliferation and programmed cell death (apoptosis). In addition to its role in cancer initiation, oxidative stress contributes to cancer progression and metastasis. Considering the complex role of oxidative stress in breast cancer, this article proposes therapeutic strategies focused on managing oxidative stress and introduces new approaches to improve current breast cancer treatments.

Abstract

The absorption of vitamins and minerals from food is a critical factor influencing human health and nutrition. This literature review examines how the chemical composition of food including naturally occurring inhibitors and enhancers affects the bioavailability of essential micronutrients. Emphasis is placed on the role of compounds such as phytates, oxalates, tannins, and polyphenols in reducing absorption, as well as the enhancing effects of vitamin C, dietary fats, heme iron, organic acids, and specific amino acids. Understanding these interactions provides insight into optimizing nutrient uptake through dietary choices, traditional food preparation methods, and targeted public health strategies.

Abstract

Background: The final period of the Nursing professional study is a critical period for students, because this period is full of processes that require students to complete their education on time. Students often experience stress in completing nursing professional tasks, both from within and outside themselves. Internal stressors faced by Thesis students such as difficulty in obtaining references, limited research time, repeated revision processes, difficulties in finding themes, titles, samples, and measuring tools for the final assignment. Meanwhile, stressors originating from outside such as limited funds, busy and difficult to meet supervisors, long feedback from supervisors, and lack of consultation with supervisors when completing the Nursing Science study program cause students to experience stress which causes sleep pattern disorders in students Method: : This study design uses a correlational approach with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study was an average of 106 people formulated by the Slovin formula to 84 people. The sampling used was non-probability sampling with a quota sampling technique. Data collection on sleep quality with stress levels used a Likert scale. Data analysis used Spearman Rho with the provision of α ≤ 0.05. Results: It is known that in the University of Muhammadiyah Jember Nursing Profession study program, there are 54 people (64.3%) who experience adequate sleep quality and moderate stress levels of 54 people (64.3%). Based on statistical tests using Spearman-Rho, the results obtained p-value = 0.000 (α <0.05) with a correlation of 0.820. This indicates that H1 is accepted, thus there is a relationship between variables x and y which means there is a relationship between sleep quality and stress levels of students with a strong relationship strength. Conclusion: There is a relationship between sleep quality and stress levels in students of the Nursing Profession study program, University of Muhammadiyah Jember.
