Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out resistance of the five varieties of chili pepperto various concentrations of NaCl salt by Germination Test. The research wasconducted in the seed technology laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universityof North Sumatera on December 2011. The research used Randomized Block Designwith two factors and three replication. The first factor was variety, consisting of fivevarieties, namely Laris, Mario, TM 007, TM 999, and Hot Star. The second factor wassalt concentration, consisting 4 levels, namely G0(0 ppm), G1 (1000 ppm), G (2000ppm), and G (3000 ppm). The parameters observed in this research were germinationpercentage, germination rate, percentage of normal and abnormal seedlings, percentage of dead seeds, seedling fresh weight and seedling height. The resultsshowed that varieties significantly effected germination rate, percentage of deadseeds, seedling fresh weight and seedling height. While salt concentration did notshow any significant affect on all parameters. It can be concluded that among thevarieties tested, the Mario variety showed best tolerance to NaCl salt, the leasttolerance was Hot Star. 3Keywords : Red Chili, variety, NaCl, germination 2

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the most suitable planting distace and dose of phospate fertilizer forthe growth and yield of yam. The reasearch was conducted at Jln. Setia Budi, Simpang Selayang,Medan Tuntungan at ± 25 meters above sea level from April until August 2012. The research usedthe factorial completely randomized block design with two factors, namely phospate fertilizer (0g,5,3g, 10,67g, and 16 g/plot) and planting distance (20x15 cm, 20x20 cm, and 20x25 cm).Parameters observed were plant length, number of branches, tuber weight per sample, tuber weightper plot, tuber diameter , root volume and   and harvest index. The results showed that phospatefertilizer treatment did not show any significant effects for all parameters. Longer planting distancesignificantlly increased plant lengths only at 3 and 4 WAP, but not at other ages, and for all otherparameters as well. Similirlly, there was no significant interaction effect of the two treatments for all parameters.Key words : phospate fertilizer, planting distance, yam

Abstract

The aim of the research was to evaluate the growth and production of sweet corn (Zea mayssacharata Sturt. L) planted at various distance and land preparation (soil tillage prior to planting). The treatments were arranged in split plot design with three replication. The study consists of twofactors, as main plot was time of soil tillage prior to planting (one and seven days) whereas sub plotwas planting distance consist of four different spaces : 70cm x 10cm, 70cm x 20cm,70cm x 30cm dan 70cm x 40cm. Result showed that the plant spacing consists of 70cm x40cm performs significant effect on number of leaves, stem diameter, cob diameter, and productionper plant, but not significant effect on flowering time and number of cobs per plot. The interactionbetween time of planting and planting space had no significant effect on plant height, number ofleaves, stem diameter, days to flowering, cob diameter, number of cobs per plot, weight of cobs perplot and production per plant. Keywords: sweet corn, plant spacing and tillage time
