Abstract

Growth Response Testing of Several Rice Varieties (Oryza sativa L.) Caused of Salinity. In theSub-District Percut Sei Tuan there are around 700 hectares more area paddy fields that can becategorized as has been affected by sea water (is 1-2 km to coast). The production rice fields in thearea was around 2-3 tons per hectare with using varieties Ciherang and Mekongga. But varietiesCiherang have potential result8.5 tonnes/ha with result average 6.0 tonnes/ha in the non- salinity. The problem is to be a basic idea how to increase production the be examined back some varietiesthat had been found varieties that not only could but critical market result in standard national resultrice that is 6.0 ton/ha.This study aims to determine the growth response of some rice varieties due tosalinity stress. The study was conducted in the Village of Tanjung Rejo, Hamlet Paluh Merbau, Sub-District Percut Sei Tuan, Deli Serdang Regency with altitude of 1.5 meters above sea level in April-September 2012 using a Randomized Block Design with eight varieties of rice plant (Ciherang, IR64 , Lambur, Batanghari, Banyuasin, IR 42, Inpari 10 and Margasari) with 3 replication. Parameter isobserved germination, salt injury, plant height, number of tillers, leaf chlorophyll, leaf area, numberof productive tillers, panicle length, number of grains contains per panicle, number of grains perpanicle empty, grain weight per plot, and 1000 grain weight. The test of the effectiviveness of Trichoderma sp. and Gliocladium sp. antagonism fungi is aimed tocontrol lanas disease (Phytophthora nicotianae) in Deli tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabaccum L.). Theaim of the research was to know the effectiveness of Trichoderma sp. andGliocladium sp.antagonism fungi in controlling lanas disease in Deli tobacco plants. The research wasconducted at Tembakau Deli Research Center of PTPN II Sampali, Medan, from May untilSeptember, 2012. The research used non-factorial RAK (cluster random design) with ten treantmentsand three repetitions: control, P.nicotianae, 5 grams of Trichoderma sp., 10 grams of Trichoderma sp.,15 grams of Trichoderma sp., 20 grams of Trichoderma sp., 5 grams of Gliocladium sp.,10 grams of Gliocladium sp., 15 grams of Gliocladium sp., and 20 grams of Gliocladium sp. The resultof the research showed that the percentage of the highest attack was found in the treatment ofP.nicotianae (25.00%), but there was no symptom (0,00%) in the treatments of control,15 grams of Trichoderma sp., 20 grams of Trichoderma sp., 10 grams of Gliocladium sp.,15 grams of Gliocladium sp., and 20 grams of Gliocladium sp. The highest plant was found in thetreatment of 20 grams of Gliocladium sp. (50,92 centimeters) and the lowest plant was found in thetreatment of P.nicotianae (31,14 centimeters). The largest number of leaves was found in treatment of20 grams of Gliocladium sp. (20,18 leaves), and the smallest number of leaves was found in thetreatment of P.nicotianae (9,25 leaves). The result of the test of Trichoderma sp. and Gliocladium sp.antagonism fungi on P.nicotianae indicated that the growth of both fungi had rapidly developed so thatP.nicotianae tended to get away from antagonism at the media in the laboratory. Keywords: Trichoderma sp., Gliocladium sp., P.nicotianae, Antagonism

Abstract

Land capability evaluation is an evaluation of land potential for use of various farmingsystems in general without specifying the allocation to certain crops and management actions. Theresearch was conducted in April of 2012. The purpose of this study was to determine the landcapability class on Sihiong, Sinar Sabungan and Lumban Lobu Village Toba Samosir Distric withthe method of limiting factors and matching according to land capability class Arsyad (1989).Analysis of the soil such as soil texture, permeability, bulk density, salinity and organic material areconducted in the Laboratory of Research and Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University ofNorth Sumatra and field observations such as slope, erosion factors, soil depth, drainage, gravel /rock and inundation / flood hazard. The results showed that areas Sihiong, Sinar Sabungan andLumban Lobu has actual land capability class is the same class III (es), Class III is in which landcan be used for the production of crops and forests, (es) an limiting factor on erosion and the depthof the root zone or soil (solum). So the capability class of potential land become III (s), which (s) isa limiting factor on the rooting area only. Keywords: evaluation of land capability, survey, BPS Tobasa

Abstract

Rice and Watermelon cropping pattern has been always applied at Air Hitam Village, Lima PuluhSubdistrict, Batu Bara District. The selected cropping pattern was choosed because of rice productiondid not increase in rice and rice cropping pattern, and it will be expected that rice and watermeloncropping pattern will increase the farmer income. The difference in cropping pattern and supply oforganic matter changes in soil properties of fields. The objective of this study was to know the changesin some chemical properties of paddy soil at Air Hitam Village, Lima Puluh Subdistrict, Batu BaraDistrict which is lacated at about 18 m above sea level (asl). Parameters measured were pH usingElectrometric method, organic carbon by using Walkley and Black method, available phosphorus byusing Bray II method, exchangeable potassium NH4OAc with method, total-N by using Kjeldahl methodand available SiO2 by using ammonium acetate extraction. The results of this study showed that rice andwatermelon cropping pattern didn’t affect the paddy soil chemical properties including pH, organiccarbon, total-N, available phosphorus, and exchangeable potassium, except soil available SiO2, is higherat rice and watermelon cropping pattern compared to that rice-rice cropping pattern.Key words : cropping system, soil chemical properties.
