Abstract

The aim of the research was to identify the influence of several types of organic fertilizer on the growth and yield of three shallot varieties on the land exposed by Sinabung volcanic ash. The research was conducted at the experimental field of Agricultural Faculty, Sumatera Utara University which about ± 25 metres above sea level, begun from April up to August 2014. The experimental design was randomized block design with 2 factors, replicated three times. The first factor was three shallot varieties i.e : V1 (Bima Brebes), V2 (Crok Kuning), V3 (Samosir) and the second was several types of organic fertilizer i.e : P0 (without fertilizer = control), P1 (palm oil fruit bunch), P2 (rice husk ash), and P3 (cow manure). Parameters observed were shoot length, leaves number, tillers number, clove number, harvesting age, and fresh and dried weight bulb per sample. The results showed that all parameters observed were significantly affected by three shallot varieties, meanwhile only harvesting age, and wet and dry weight bulb per plot were significantly affected by several types of organic fertilizer. Abstract

Sembahe is believed to have a great potential particularly in agricultural sector. In order to discover this potent it is necessary to classify the soilfirst by using USDA Soil Taxonomy 2014th edition which has not been done before. This research conducted in between December 2013 and February 2014. The soil profiles was made from two representative location. The first is located at 03020’40” S 98035’30” E, with altitude 231 meter above mean sea level. Meanwhile the second is located at 03020’42” S 98035’05” E withaltitude 294 meter above mean sea level. Morphological properties identified by describing the soil profiles using manual book while physical and chemical properties identified at laboratory. Soil samples was taken from each horizon at every profiles and analyzed for particle size distribution, bulk density, organic carbon, exchangeable cations (Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, and Na+), pH in a 1:2 soil:water ratio, pH in KCl solution, phosphate retention, and also kation exchange capacity (CEC).The results show that the soil in Sembahe Village at profile I classified as Inceptisols Order, Udepts Sub Order,Humudepts Great Group, and Cumulic Humudepts Sub Group, andat profile II classified as Inceptisols Order, Udepts Sub Order, Dystrudepts Great Group, and Typic Dystrudepts Sub Group.Keywords : Soil Classification, Soil Taxonomy 2014, Inceptisols

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the land suitability of coffea (Coffea arabica L.) in Muara Subdistrict of North Tapanuli Utara. This research use survey method From the results of the overlay from the map of soil types, map of topography, and climate, retrieved 3 (three) units of land use map. SPL 1 has a land area of 796 hectares, SPL 2 has a land area of 243 hectares, and SPL 3 has a land area of 619 hectares.With the Matching method, then retrieved the land suitability class actual and potensial class for coffea (Coffea arabica L.) on each of the SPL. At SPL 1 and SPL 2 are actual land suitability class S3 (wa,nr) while the potential land suitability class is S3 (wa) and at SPL 3 is actual land suitability class S3 (wa,nr,eh) while the potential land suitability class is S3 (wa). Potention of land for Arabic coffea in Muara Subdistrict is 1658 Ha.Key words : land suitability, Arabic coffea, Muara Subdistrict

Abstract

The objective of this research was to get bioinsecticides that efective againts the borer on chickpea in the field. This research was conducted at the Desa Kerapuh Kecamatan Dolok Masihul Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai, from November 2013 until Januari 2014. The research used complete block design nonfactorial with eight treatments and three replications. The treatments were control, Leaf extract of betelvine 100 g/l, leaf extract of soursop 250 g/l, Extract of Derris 50 g/l, Leaf extract of papaya 100 g/l, Bacillus thuringiensis 1ml/l, Beauveria bassiana 10 gr/l and Klorantraniliprol 1 ml/liter. The result showed that kind of bioinsecticide gave different effect to all of parameters. The best bioinsecticide to control M. testulalis was leaf extract of soursop 250 gram/liter.Key words: Maruca testulalis, chickpea, bioinsecticide

Abstract

This study aimed to test the chemical properties of Ultisol and Brassica production by a combination of organic matter and minerals. This research was conducted at the gauze house, Compost Centre, and Research Technology Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty, University of North Sumatra, Medan. The research was conducted from September 2014 until May 2015. The research design used a randomized block design (RAK) by 2 factors treatments and two replications. The first factor is a mineral, M1: ash 250 g / 5 kg soil and M2: portland cement 62.5 g / 5 Kg of soil. The second factor (organic matters) are compost of durian skin by kefir activator (O1), compost of durian skin by yogurt activator (O2), compost of bagasse by kefir activator (O3), compost of bagasse by yogurt activator (O4), compost of sweet potato canopy by kefir activator (O5), compost of sweet potato canopy by yogurt activator (O6), compost of market waste by kefir activator (O7) and compost of market waste by yogurt activators (O8) each of all was 250 g / 5 kg soil. The results showed that organic matter gived significantly effect to increased plant fresh weight. But the effect was not significant to roots fresh weight, soil reaction (pH H2O) and C-organic. Mineral treatments gived significantly to increased the soil reaction (pH H2O). But the effect was not significant to plant fresh weight, root fresh weight and C-organic. Interactions of both treatments gived significantly to increased the soil reaction parameters (pH H2O) of all parameters observed.Key words :Ultisol, organic matters, minerals, brassica

Abstract

The aim of this research is to evaluate the suitability of nutrient retention for Shallot (Allium ascalonicum) in Baktiraja Sub-district of Humbang Hasundutan District, North Sumatera Province. The method of this search is survey method with Purposive Random Sampling Method with 30 samples and 3 meters, which is pH, CEC, and C-Organic. The result of this research show that land quality nutrient retentiont at Baktiraja Sub-District of Humbang Hasundutan District for shallot (Allium ascalonicum) is moderately suitable (S2). The characteristics for pH and C-Organic are highly suitable (S1), and at the same time is moderately suitable (S2) for CEC.Keywords: Shallot, pH, CEC, C-Organic

Abstract

Kopi merupakan salah satu komoditas pertanian yang mempunyai nilai ekonomi cukup tinggi. Daerah Mandailing Natal merupakan salah satu daerah penghasil kopi di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi sifat biologi tanah antara lain C-organik, N-total, respirasi tanah dan total mikroorganisme tanah terhadap produksi kopi. Penelitian ini dilakukan metode survei. Sampel diambil dengan metode acak sengaja berdasarkan produksi dengan parameter yang diukur yaitu C-organik, N-total, respirasi tanah dan total mikroorganisme tanah. Data dianalisis dengan metode analisis komponen utama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sifat biologi tanah terbagi atas dua faktor, yaitu faktor “Nitrogen dan Mikroorganisme” dan faktor “Bahan Organik”. Baik faktor “Nitrogen dan Mikroorganisme” maupun faktor “Bahan Organik” mempengaruhi produksi secara positif.Kata kunci : Sifat Biologi Tanah, Produksi Biji Kopi, Mandailing Natal

Abstract

Salah satu permasalahan yang dihadapi pada pembibitan stump karet dilapangan ialah tingginya persentase kematian stump (sebesar 15-20%) yang diakibatkan oleh pertumbuhan akar dan tunas yang terhambat. Oleh sebab itu dibutuhkan suatu penelitian untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan stump karet yang ditanam pada berbagai kedalaman penanaman dengan komposisi media tanam yang berbeda. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan stump karet pada berbagai kedalaman dan komposisi media tanam. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Juli hingga November 2014 di Lahan Percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sumatera Utara. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap Faktorial. Faktor pertama adalah kedalaman (di tengah antara mata okulasi dengan pangkal batang, tepat dipangkal batang, di sepertiga dari pangkal batang) dan faktor kedua adalah perbandingan media tanam topsoil dan pasir (1:0, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3).Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan kedalaman penanaman stump meningkatkan persentase bertunas, kecepatan melentis, dan jumlah daun, sedangkan perlakuan media tanam meningkatkan kecepatan melentis, diameter tunas dan bobot segar tunas, serta interaksi kedua perlakuan meningkatkan persentase bertunas, panjang tunas, diameter tunas, dan bobot segar akar.Kata kunci : Stump karet, Kedalaman Tanam, Media Tanam

Abstract

Greenhouse study experiment aimed to study the utilization of waste liquid concentrates and boiler ash of palm oil mill as nutrient source of Ultisols. This study was using complete block randomized design with two factor and three replications, concentrate of waste liquid factor 0, 10, 20, 30 ton / ha and boiler ash factor 0, 50, 100, 150 kg K2O / ha. Parameters measured were soil pH, organic-C, total -N, available-P, and exchange K, plant height, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, and plant N, P, K uptake. The result of study showed that concentrate of waste liquid of palm oil mill can act as nutrient sources because increase all parameters, but boiler ash just increase soil pH, available P, exchange K and plant P uptakeKey words : boiler ash, concentrates, Ultisol.

Abstract

Salah satu permasalahan yang dihadapi dalam budidaya karet dengan stump adalah tingginya persentase kematian stump di lapangan yang diakibatkan terhambatnya pertumbuhan akar dan tunas. Sehingga untuk mempercepat pertumbuhan perakaran dapat dilakukan dengan pemberian Growtone. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui respon pertumbuhan stump karet terhadap pemberian Growtone pada berbagai komposisi media tanam. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Juli hingga November 2014 di lahan Penelitian Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap faktorial dengan dua faktor dan tiga ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah Konsentrasi Growtone yaitu 0, 25, 50 dan 75 mg dan faktor kedua adalah perbandingan media tanam topsoil dan pasir yaitu 1:0, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian Growtone tidak nyata meningkatkan pertumbuhan stump karet, pemberian media tanam topsoil : pasir (1:1) serta interaksi keduanya nyata meningkatkan pertumbuhan stump karet.Kata kunci : Stump, Growtone, Media tanam
