Abstract

Most of farmers using crop rotation of rice- watermelon to residuemanure straws fromharvested rice at Air Hitam Village, Lima Puluh Distric. The research was conducted to study somephysical characteristics and soil organic matter at two crop rotation (rice – rice and rice -watermelon). The samples were taken at 0 – 20 cm soil depth and at there plots each crop rotation.The parameters of soil measured were temperature, total porosity, bulk density, permeability andorganic matter. The result showed that all parameters were not different significantly between croprotation of rice – rice and rice – watermelon except soil temperature.

Abstract

Growth Respons and Production of Black Soybean Varieties (Glycine max L.) based on Seed Size.Use of yellow soybeans increases as the limited supply of black soybeans. Farmers to plant turnyellow soybean seed in higher production and larger in size than black soybean seed generally small.Size seed effect toward the utilization of soybean. The large seed size tends to be use as industrial rawmaterials while the size of small seeds use as a seed plant back. The aim of this research is toselection the use big size seed and small seed size from some varieties to increase production. Plantedon Community Land Pasar 1 Tanjung Sari, District Medan Selayang, Medan with a height of ± 25meter above sea level on Mei until August 2012. Randomized Block Design from that is varieties(Detam-1, Detam-2, Cikuray, and Mallika) and seed size (small seed size and big seed size) who thetreatment repeatedly 3 times. The parameters observased were plant height, number of branches onmain branches, flowering time, harvest time, number of pods per plant, number of pods containing,number of empty pods, production per plant, number of small size seed per plant, number of mediumsize seed per plant, and number of big size seed per plant. The research showed that the stastisticanalysis that varieties significant effects on plant height, number of branches on main branches,flowering time, harvest time, number of pods per plant, number of pods containing, number of smallsize seed per plant, number of medium size seed per plant, and number of big size seed per plant.

Abstract

Many potential field is able to be cultivated, which is under the canopy of the plantationand one of the breeding program that can be used obtaining cultivars or varieties are mostlydone by the tecknical breeding mutation. F that,an experiment had been conducted in or hefield of research USU, Medan (+ 25 m asl.) In February-June 2012th by using non-factorialrandomized block design. The results of experimental study that the action plan in severalvarieties had significant effect on flower age, harvesting time, 100 seed weight, theproduction per sample and the production per plot. Value estimate of heritability range from0.12-1. The coefficient of genotypes variations are about 4.64-38.5 and coefficient ofphenotypic variation are about 6.93-38.89. No significant correlation values for allparameters.

Abstract

Study of the Growth and Production of Upland Rice of Situ Bagendit Variety In Sludge Aplicationand Number of seedlings per hill, supervised by Ir. Jonatan Ginting, M.S. andIr. Hj. Sabar Ginting, M.S. The research used Randomized Block Design (RBD) factorial with2 factors, which are sludge (0, 30, 60, 90 g/hill) and number of seedlings (2, 4, 6, 8 seeds/hill). Theparameters measured were plant height, number of tillers, straw dry weight, root dry weight,number of panicle, percentage of empty grain, the amount of grain productive, productive grainweight, grain 1000 grain weight, and grain production per plot. The results showed that the sludgeaplication significantly affected plant height at 2 and 10 weeks after planting, the number of tillers4-10 weeks after planting, root dry weight, the amount of grain productive, and productive grainweight. Number of seedlings per hill significantly affected plant height at 2 and 10 weeks afterplanting, the number of tillers 4-10 weeks after planting, and root dry weight. The interactionbetween the sludge aplication and number of seedlings per hill significantly affected plant height at2 and 10 weeks after planting and root dry weight.

Abstract

This research concernsof knowing nitrogen(N) availability in soil, N-plant absorption andplant growth in three different kinds of soil with the incrementof three organic matters fromdifferent sources. The research conducted at the screen house, Chemistry and Fertility Laboratory,and Research and Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatera,Medan. This researchused Randomized Block Designed (RBD) Factorial that consists of twofactors and three repeatations which had made thirty six units of experiment. The first factor are thekind of soil (T) that consists of Entisol soil (T1), Inceptisol soil (T2) and Ultisol soil (T3), and thesecond factor are the organic matter (K) that consist of rice straw compost (K1), chicken dirt (K2),cocoa shell compost (K3), and control (K0). The resultof the research showed that different kind ofsoil singnificanly influencedthe C-organic soil, and total soil N, and the difference of organic mattersingnificanly influenced the total soil N, plant crowndry weight, N-absorptionof the plant and plantgrowth, and the interaction between each different kind of soil with different organic mattersingnificanly influenced the plant crowndry weight.

Abstract

Maize is a staple food of rice substitution with a good fibre so that maize requirement alwaysmount every year. But, soil fertility supporting growth and produce the maize downprogressively with the inorganic fertilizer use. For that, required correct variety maize owninggood respon with the organic fertilizer gift. The objective of this research aim to know theresponse on growth and yield some maize varieties to organik fertilizer was done in UPTBalai Benih Induk Tanjung Selamet, Deli Serdang, Medan from April until July 2012. Thisresearch using by Randomized Block Design with two factors. The first factor are threevarieties of maize: V1:Bisma, V2:Pioneer 12, V3:SHS 4. The second factor is organicfertilizer by five levels: G0:(0g/plant),G1:75g/plant,G2:150g/plant,G3:NPK 8,4g andG4:75g/plant+ NPK. Data were analyzed with Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) andcontinued with Tukey test.The result showed that varieties were significantly different to parameters plantheight, wide of leaf, stem of corn and seed of corn. Organic fertilizer was significant differentto plant height, and wide of leaf. The interaction of varieties and organik fertilizer weresignificant effect to seed of corn production.

Abstract

Response of growth and yield of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) by giving of arbuskulamycorrhiza fungi (FMA) and vermicompost. Sorgum is one of the important food crops in theworld. Most of its yield is used as food, beverages, animal feed, and industrial needs. Increasingof degraded land area and land degradation rate that being higher, so that it needs to improvesoil condition and enchance plant growth by using of FMA andvermicompost. The aim of thisresearch was to obtain the right dosage of FMA and vermicompost for growth and yield of sorgum(Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench.). The research was conducted in the field UPT BBI in the TanjungSelamat village of Sunggal sub-district, Deli Serdang regency in North Sumatra, in May to August2012, using a randomized block design (RBD) factorial with two factors and three replications . Thefirst factor is the dosage of FMA (0, 5, 10 g / plant). The second factor is the dosage ofvermicompost (0, 30, 60, 90 g / plant). The results showed that FMA significantly affect on plantheight, number of leaves, and the degree of root infection. Vermicompost significantly affect onplant height and number of leaves. Interaction between the giving of FMA and vermicompostsignificantly affect on the degree of root infection.

Abstract

Boesenbergia flava merupakan tanaman yang berasal dari famili zingiberaceae. Sebagianbesar, ditemukan dalam area sangat lembab, area teduh dan biasanya dekat dengan sungai ataudalam kondisi berawa, yang keberadaannya masih susah ditemukan karena tanaman ini langka,genus dari tumbuh-tumbuhan rhizomatus kecil, sebagian besar tumbuh di hutan. Zingiberaceaemerupakan tanaman herba tropis yang digunakan sebagai obat-obatan, bahan kosmetik maupunbumbu masak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi BAP dan NAAterhadap pertumbuhan akar Boesenbergia flava secara in vitro. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan diLaboratorium Kultur Jaringan Tanaman, Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medanyang dimulai pada bulan Maret sampai dengan Mei 2012. Rancangan yang digunakan adalahRancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan dua faktor perlakuan. Faktor pertama adalah konsentrasiNAA yang terdiri dari 4 taraf yaitu 0 mg/l; 1 mg/l; 2 mg/l; 3 mg/l. Faktor kedua adalah konsentrasiBAP meliputi 0 mg/l; 1.5 mg/l; 3 mg/l; 4.5 mg/l. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasiNAA dan BAP tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap jumlah akar dan persentase eksplan yang hidup,tetapi interaksi antara NAA dan BAP berpengaruh nyata terhadap jumlah akar. Pada konsentrasiNAA, BAP dan interaksinya berpengaruh nyata terhadap panjang akar.Kata kunci

Abstract

The objective of research was to know the production of soybean with application of variousN sources and differences of groundwater conditions. Research conducted at the Screen HouseFaculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan on February until May 2012, using arandomized block design factorial with two factors and three replications. The first factor wassources of nitrogen consisted of without N sources, inorganic N sources (Urea), biological Nsources (Bradyrhizobium japonicum), organik N sources (straw compost) (50 g/polybag), andmanure (50 g / polybag). The second factor was groundwater conditions consisted of 60%, 70% and80% field capacity. Abstract

The aims of this research to know the growth and production of corn (Zea mays L.) Pioneer-12Variety effect of pruning leaves and giving NPKMg fertilizer. This research is implemented ontrying field Tumpatan Nibung village, Batang Kuis, Sumatera Utara, Medan on April 2012 andfinished on Juli 2012. The research was done by using Completely Randomized Design (RAK)factorial consist of two factors treatment. The first factor is pruning with three levels, M0 (withoutpruning), M1 (prune two leaves) and M2 (prune three leaves). The second factor is NPKMgfertilization with four levels, yaitu P0 (0 kg/Ha), P1 (250 kg/Ha), P2 (500 kg/Ha) dan P3 (750kg/Ha). Result of the research show that the pruning treatment effects real against flowering,harvest, weight of dry shelled per sample and hundred weight of seed grain but it does not effectreal against plant height and harvest index.
