Abstract

Delayed graduation among final-year students is not only an academic issue but also an internal experience that shapes how students understand themselves, manage pressure, and respond to their study completion process. This study aims to analyze the intrapersonal communication process of final-year students who experience delayed graduation at UPN Veteran Jawa Timur. This research applies a qualitative descriptive approach by using in-depth interviews with eight final-year students who had exceeded the ideal study period. The data were analyzed through reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing by focusing on the stages of intrapersonal communication, namely sensation, perception, memory, and thinking. The findings show that delayed graduation functions as a stimulus that triggers various emotional responses, including regret, anxiety, pessimism, sadness, and self-blame. These sensations develop into different self-perceptions, ranging from negative self-evaluation to reflective acceptance and stable self-perception when students attribute their delay to external factors. Memory also plays an important role in shaping students’ self-interpretation, as they connect current delays with past academic decisions, personal experiences, family responsibilities, psychological conditions, and institutional systems. The thinking process is mainly reflected through self-talk, which functions as a means of calming the self, strengthening motivation, expressing emotions, and directing future actions. This study concludes that intrapersonal communication among delayed final-year students is dynamic, subjective, and recursive. The implication of this study highlights the importance of academic and psychological support systems that consider students’ internal meaning-making processes, not only their academic progress.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media, particularly TikTok, has driven changes in marketing communication strategies and the development of influencer credibility in the digital space. This study aims to analyze how credibility is constructed through TikTok content on the @bellaclrs_ account as a brand advocate for fast fashion products. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using content analysis, referring to persuasive communication theory and Source Credibility Theory, which includes expertise, trustworthiness, and attractiveness. The data were obtained from TikTok posts featuring fashion product promotions. The findings indicate that @bellaclrs_’s credibility is consistently built through the representation of these three dimensions within the content. Expertise is reflected in the ability to present fashion references, trustworthiness is shown through message consistency and alignment, and attractiveness is conveyed through aesthetic visuals and engaging communication style. These findings suggest that influencer credibility is formed through consistent message construction in content, thereby supporting the role as a brand advocate in promoting fast fashion on TikTok.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital communication has transformed how organizations manage crisis communication, particularly through social media platforms. During crisis situations, organizations are required to provide fast, transparent, and responsive communication to maintain public trust and organizational reputation. This study aims to analyze the crisis communication strategy implemented by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) through its official Instagram account, @kai121_, during the flood disaster in Operational Area 4 Semarang in January 2026. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with an interpretive paradigm. The data were collected through documentation studies of Instagram content uploaded during the crisis period and analyzed using qualitative content analysis based on Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT). The findings reveal that PT KAI implemented several crisis communication strategies, including excuse, justification, apology, compensation, and reminder strategies. The most dominant strategy identified was excuse, where PT KAI consistently explained that operational disruption was caused by external environmental factors such as flooding, heavy rainfall, and damaged railway infrastructure. The organization also emphasized passenger safety, provided operational updates, delivered apology messages, offered ticket refunds, and communicated recovery progress throughout the crisis period. In addition, Instagram played an important role as a visual and interactive communication platform that enabled PT KAI to maintain transparency and public engagement during the disaster. The study concludes that social media-based crisis communication has become an essential communication tool for public service organizations in maintaining public trust and supporting organizational recovery during crisis situations. The findings contribute to the development of digital crisis communication studies and provide practical insights for public relations practitioners in managing crisis communication through social media platforms.

Abstract

The phenomenon of utilizing Grok, an artificial intelligence (AI) developed by xAI on the X platform, as a critic mediator amidst the threat of ambiguous clauses in the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE) which creates a chilling effect on the Indonesian public, motivates this research. This study aimed to identify the patterns and language styles of X users in constructing hidden resistance against the image and performance of the police through the Grok mention mechanism. This research used a qualitative approach with James C. Scott’s Hidden Resistance concept and Rodney H. Jones’ Digital Discourse Analysis method, covering text, context, action and interaction, and ideology and power dimensions. The research data consisted of 35 tweets collected through purposive sampling from March to August 2025. The results showed that X users strategically utilized Grok’s technological affordances as a legal shield through the use of sarcasm, satire, and cynicism, as well as rhetorical questions and derogatory expressions. A pattern of feigned ignorance was identified, where users guided the AI to validate the realities of Indonesian police image and performance without making direct personal accusations. This research concluded that the presence of Grok AI has become a tool for subordinate groups to safely delegitimize the dominant narrative of the police institution and has evolved into a non-human actor that maintains the public’s freedom of expression.

Abstract

This study examines the forms of participatory culture within the Manchester United fandom on social media platform X through the account @utdfocusid. Employing a qualitative approach with Christine Hine's virtual ethnography method, data were collected through virtual observation of three strategically selected match periods involving Manchester United against Grimsby Town, Liverpool, and Arsenal, alongside supplementary content outside these periods. Data analysis followed the interactive model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The findings demonstrate that @utdfocusid embodies all four dimensions of Participatory Culture, Affiliations manifested through memes and hashtags as collective identity markers; Expressions embodied in sarcastic humor and emoticon use as emotional communication; Circulations occurring through live tweets and multi-directional fan interactions; and Collaborative Problem Solving evident in real-time tactical discussions and historical rivalry threads that collectively produce richer community knowledge. These findings establish that digital fandom operates as a complex communication ecosystem where collective identity, solidarity, and shared knowledge are actively constructed, extending well beyond mere emotional expression

Abstract

This study examines the discourse of femininity and beauty standards in the film The Ugly Stepsister using Sara Mills’ Critical Discourse Analysis. The research is based on the persistence of patriarchal beauty standards reproduced through popular narratives, particularly the Cinderella story. The film portrays Elvira as a woman who experiences social pressure to conform to ideal femininity in order to gain validation and acceptance. This study aims to analyze how femininity, body control, and power relations are represented through verbal, visual, and narrative aspects in the film. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with Sara Mills’ approach focusing on subject-object positions and writer-reader positions. The findings reveal that the female body is constructed as an object of social discipline shaped by patriarchal values and beauty standards. Although Elvira is positioned as an active subject within the narrative, she simultaneously becomes the object of objectification and social pressure. The study also shows that beauty standards are reproduced not only by male characters but also through relationships among women. This research implies that film functions as a medium that both reproduces and reconstructs discourses surrounding femininity in popular culture.

Abstract

The rapid adoption of artificial intelligence image generators among Generation Z introduces significant privacy threats, particularly regarding the collection and exploitation of biometric data. This study aims to examine the correlation between digital literacy levels and personal data sharing attitudes among Generation Z artificial intelligence image generator users in East Java. A quantitative correlational method was utilized with a purposive sample of 126 active users. Data were collected through an online questionnaire utilizing a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation. The findings reveal a strong and significant negative correlation between digital literacy and personal data sharing attitudes (r = -0.726, p = 0.000). This indicates that higher digital literacy significantly fosters a more protective and cautious attitude toward sharing personal biometric data. Furthermore, the discussion highlights a privacy paradox where users exhibit high affective anxiety toward risks like deepfakes, yet display permissive conative behaviors due to technological determinism and social trends. The study concludes that digital literacy serves as a vital cognitive capacity for managing communication privacy boundaries. The implication of this research emphasizes the necessity for educational institutions and policymakers to design digital literacy programs that go beyond technical access, focusing extensively on critical evaluation and ethical reflection to foster a secure digital ecosystem.

Abstract

Communication characteristics of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder influence the process of self disclosure in interpersonal communication. This study aims to analyze the role of the one-on-one class learning system at SLB Harapan Bunda Surabaya in supporting students’ self-disclosure based on the dimensions of self-disclosure proposed by Joseph A. DeVito. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques including in depth interviews, observation, and literature study. The study found that the one-on-one learning approach creates intensive and supportive interpersonal relationships that help students gradually develop self-disclosure. The process is influenced by emotional conditions, feelings of comfort, and closeness with teacher assistants, and is expressed through both verbal and nonverbal communication. The dimensions of valence, as well as purpose and intention, were found to be more relevant in the self-disclosure process of ASD students, while the dimensions of amount, accuracy, and depth have not developed optimally due to students’ communication limitations.
