Abstract

The background of this research is that the ecological crisis is not only highlighted by environmental activists but also by religious figures who contribute thoughts to address the ecological crisis. In a broader perspective, the causes of the ecological crisis are influenced by ideologies or paradigms that affect individual behavior. This study employs a qualitative method and utilizes library research. The qualitative method involves direct observation. The approach used is a comparative approach with a descriptive analysis theory. The objective is to analyze two or more variables to uncover comparisons, whether similarities or differences, regarding Islamic and Christian perspectives on the ecological crisis. The research findings indicate that both Christianity and Islam possess ecological concepts rooted in their respective beliefs or theologies. The difference lies in the Islamic view, which experiences no debate regarding humanity's responsibility to protect and preserve nature. Meanwhile, in Christianity, some interpretations suggest that humans are granted the freedom to exploit nature, which is seen as contributing to the ecological crisis. However, both Christianity and Islam provide theological and ethical arguments as the basis for behaviors addressing the ecological crisis.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the issue of increasingly diverse human behaviors, diminishing morals, and a lack of empathy toward others. People often hurl harmful words at one another, impacting relationships in families, friendships, communities, and even social media. Such individuals are often labeled as "toxic," as their actions negatively affect others, causing harm. Generally, a person can be considered toxic if they bring negative influence into their surroundings, making others feel uncomfortable. The objective of this study is to analyze the verses related to toxic behavior in the Qur'an, as well as Buya Hamka's interpretation of these verses. The research method used is qualitative, based on library research, and employs a thematic interpretation (Maudu`i) approach, analyzing data from primary sources, including the Qur'an, books, and Buya Hamka's Tafsir Al Azhar. The results indicate that toxic behavior disrupts others' lives, causing harm both physically and emotionally. Several Qur'anic verses address toxic behavior, such as Surah An-Nisa (148), Al-Isra (53), Al-Hujurat (11-12), and Luqman (18-19). Buya Hamka explains in his Tafsir that Allah strictly forbids mocking, accusing, lying, or speaking ill of others, as these actions are deeply disliked by Allah. The impact of toxic behavior can be seen in three aspects: spiritual, psychological, and sociological. The core of these effects is the distancing from Allah, which leads to apathy toward others and worsens psychological well-being, trapping individuals in a toxic cycle. With such minimal morals, society will ultimately reject such individuals.

Abstract

Secularism, which comes from the Latin word 'saeculum' meaning age, is an ideology that separates religion from government affairs and public life. In the West, secularism emerged in response to the domination of the church and the suppression of freedom of thought during the Middle Ages. This ideology is growing rapidly along with the advancement of science and technology, which is often contrary to religious dogma. Secularism in the West has various models, such as the French model that emphasizes the total separation between religion and the state, as well as the AngloAmerican model that emphasizes more on the neutrality of the state in religious affairs. This article examines the history, causal factors, and impacts of secularism in the West, as well as how this ideology affects the social, political, and cultural life of Western societies. Keywords: Secularism, West, Separation of religion and state.
