Abstract

Self-confidence is an essential aspect of student development, influencing both academic and social success. However, many students face challenges that hinder the growth of their self-confidence, such as academic pressure and interpersonal issues. The humanistic approach in counseling offers a solution by emphasizing a holistic understanding of individuals, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. This article explores the principles of the humanistic approach based on Carl Rogers' theory, as well as its implementation in helping students improve their self-confidence. The findings indicate that this approach is effective in creating a supportive counseling environment, enabling students to recognize their potential, overcome low self-esteem, and develop optimally.

Abstract

Mental well-being is an important factor in supporting the academic and social success of students. Counseling plays a strategic role in improving mental well-being by providing the emotional and psychological support needed in the educational environment. This article discusses the role of counseling as a preventive and curative effort in addressing mental health issues among students. By focusing on the role of counselors, the interventions carried out, and the challenges faced in implementing counseling services, this study concludes that effective counseling services can enhance students' mental well-being and minimize potential psychological problems. However, there are still various barriers that need to be addressed in order to optimize the role of counseling in education.

Abstract

Social media addiction is an increasingly prevalent phenomenon among adolescents, affecting various aspects of life, such as mental health, academic performance, and social relationships. This study aims to analyze the role of counseling services in addressing social media addiction among adolescents. The method employed is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and literature reviews. The findings indicate that cognitive and affective-based counseling approaches, such as individual counseling, group therapy, and time management training, are effective in helping adolescents reduce their dependence on social media. Additionally, collaboration among counselors, parents, and teachers serves as a key supporting factor in the success of interventions. Through a holistic and targeted approach, counseling services can be a strategic solution in assisting adolescents to overcome the challenges of social media addiction.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of applying group counseling in improving students' social interaction skills. Social interaction is a crucial aspect of students' development, influencing their success in school and community environments. This research employs a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest design. The research subjects are high school students who exhibit difficulties in social interaction. The group counseling approach is designed to provide students with opportunities to share experiences, enhance self-confidence, and develop communication skills through guided discussions and collaborative activities. The results of the study indicate a significant improvement in students' social interaction skills after participating in group counseling sessions. This demonstrates that group counseling can be an effective strategy to help students develop healthy social relationships.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of applying self-management techniques on the learning motivation of high school students. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group model. The sample consisted of two eleventh-grade classes, each comprising 30 students, assigned as the experimental and control groups. The experimental group received self-management training over four weeks, covering study planning, time management, and self-evaluation strategies. Data were collected using a learning motivation questionnaire and analyzed using paired sample t-tests and independent sample t-tests. The results revealed a significant increase in learning motivation in the experimental group compared to the control group. These findings suggest that self-management techniques are effective in enhancing students' motivation to learn. This strategy may serve as an alternative learning approach to foster students’ independence and responsibility in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of school counselors in helping students determine their further education choices and the factors influencing their decisions. The research method used is a mixed-methods approach with a descriptive design, combining quantitative data through questionnaires and qualitative data through in-depth interviews. The research sample consists of 100 students and 10 school counselors from several high schools. The findings show that school counselors play a crucial role in providing clear information about further study options and supporting students in overcoming social pressure and anxiety that arise during the decision-making process. The majority of students feel more confident and have a better understanding after participating in counseling sessions. However, challenges related to time and resource limitations hinder the ability to provide more in-depth guidance. This study suggests the need for additional support from schools and the government to enhance counselors' capacity to effectively assist students in planning their futures. Overall, school counselors play a vital role in guiding students toward better decisions regarding higher education and their careers.

Abstract

Social anxiety is a common psychological issue among university students, often negatively impacting academic performance and social functioning. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in reducing social anxiety in college students. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test on both experimental and control groups. A total of 30 students with moderate to high levels of social anxiety were selected and randomly assigned to two groups. The experimental group received eight sessions of CBT intervention, while the control group received no treatment. The main instrument used was the modified Social Anxiety Scale (SAS). Statistical analysis revealed a significant reduction in social anxiety levels in the experimental group compared to the control group. These findings indicate that CBT is effective in reducing social anxiety and improving students' social skills and self-confidence. CBT is recommended as a practical and structured intervention to be widely implemented in campus counseling services to support student mental health.

Abstract

Domestic violence (DV) is a serious issue with widespread impacts on individual well-being and family stability. This article aims to examine the role of family counseling as a preventive strategy against DV using a qualitative approach and case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving ten participants, including counselors and clients from two counseling institutions. The findings reveal that family counseling can improve communication patterns, foster empathy, and reduce the potential for violence through empowerment-based and awareness-driven interventions. Although counseling shows considerable effectiveness, challenges such as limited participation from perpetrators, social stigma, and restricted service access remain significant barriers. Therefore, family counseling needs to be strengthened as an integral part of a comprehensive protection system with cross-sectoral support. This study offers recommendations to expand counseling service access and enhance counselor capacity in the preventive handling of domestic violence.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of digital media in guidance and counseling (G&C) services during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness, challenges, and benefits experienced by counselors and students. The research employs a mixed methods approach, combining quantitative data from questionnaires and qualitative data from in-depth interviews. The study sample consists of students and counselors from several schools that have implemented remote G&C services during the pandemic. The findings indicate that the majority of both students and counselors felt that remote G&C was effective in providing emotional and psychological support. The main advantages of this service include flexibility in scheduling and greater accessibility from home. However, significant challenges were identified, including limitations in devices, poor internet quality, and difficulties in non-verbal communication, which affect the quality of counseling interactions. Additionally, data privacy issues emerged as a key concern in the implementation of remote G&C services. Despite these challenges, the study suggests that digital media has the potential to remain an integral part of G&C systems in the future, with necessary adjustments and developments in technical and ethical aspects. The research recommends improving technical training for both counselors and students and ensuring robust data privacy protection in remote G&C services.
