Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of Islamic guidance using the Tazkiyatun Nafs approach and its effect on increasing the spiritual awareness of drug couriers in Class II A Banyuwangi Prison. The research used qualitative methods with data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation of inmates and counselors who provided guidance. The results of the study show that Islamic guidance based on Tazkiyatun Nafs is effective in helping inmates realize their past mistakes, strengthen their relationship with Allah, and form better behavior and morals. This approach was carried out through self-reflection, understanding Islamic moral values, and strengthening spiritual discipline. In addition to increasing spiritual awareness, this guidance also had an impact on changing the social attitudes of inmates in the prison environment, supporting the process of social reintegration after release. Thus, the application of Tazkiyatun Nafs has proven to be a relevant guidance strategy for developing the spiritual and moral awareness of inmates.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the efforts of Islamic religious mentors in enhancing the religious quality of female inmates, addressing weak faith as a key factor contributing to prohibited behaviors. Employing a qualitative approach, the research explores a series of religious guidance activities and identifies the factors that facilitate or hinder their implementation. The findings reveal that the efforts of Islamic religious mentors are carried out through: (a) regular religious study sessions; (b) performing the five daily prayers (Salat), either in congregation or individually; and (c) Qur’an reading and writing programs. Supporting factors are categorized as internal and external. Internal factors include: (a) adequate facilities and infrastructure, (b) strong teamwork among officers, and (c) collaboration with external institutions. External factors consist of: (a) the development of religious awareness among inmates and (b) motivational support from family members. Conversely, the hindering factors include internal issues such as (a) limitations in facilities and infrastructure, which require improvement, and (b) unplanned changes in the activity schedule. External obstacles include (a) low awareness and motivation among some inmates and (b) negative peer influence. To address these challenges, the study recommends: (a) ongoing enhancement of facilities and infrastructure, (b) fostering strong motivation and faith among inmates, and (c) reinforcing a structured and consistent activity schedule. Overall, Islamic religious guidance plays a significant role in supporting repentance and personal development, enabling female inmates to improve their quality of life.

Abstract

Drug abuse among inmates causes not only legal problems but also psychological, social, and spiritual deterioration. Therefore, rehabilitation efforts need to be transformative and restorative. This study examines the implementation and impact of pesantren-based religious guidance on drug-abusing inmates in correctional institutions. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving inmates, religious mentors, and correctional officers. The findings show that pesantren-based guidance is implemented through congregational prayers, Quran recitation, Islamic studies, religious lectures, and moral habituation. These activities contribute to positive changes in inmates’ behavior and attitudes, including increased religious awareness, emotional stability, inner peace, and motivation to stop drug abuse. Additionally, improvements in discipline and rule compliance were observed. Thus, pesantren-based religious guidance is an effective model for spiritual and social rehabilitation of drug-abusing inmates.

Abstract

This qualitative case study examines the process and outcomes of spiritual transformation experienced by a 21-year-old female inmate (initial S) at Class IIA Banyuwangi Penitentiary, convicted in an abortion case. The study explores her psychological trauma, regret, and strained family relationships, analyzed through a pesantren- or religion-based mentoring model implemented within the correctional institution. Data were collected through in-depth interviews focusing on her religious background, the circumstances of the case, and her experiences during incarceration. The findings reveal that the penitentiary functioned not merely as a place of confinement but as a space for emotional and spiritual reconciliation. S underwent a significant transformation through intensive religious roles and routines, including serving as Head of the Women’s Takmir (Mosollah Annisa) and maintaining consistent congregational worship and recitation practices. These activities fostered spiritual resilience, emotional healing, and a more mature perspective on interpersonal relationships. Socially, incarceration became a source of wisdom (hikmah) that repaired family relationships and restored parental harmony. Additionally, S developed self-reliance through managing the women’s block cooperative, preparing her for post-release independence. This study concludes that structured religion-based mentoring effectively transforms criminal regret into repentance, spiritual growth, and renewed life purpose, highlighting the importance of spiritual programs in correctional rehabilitation.

Abstract

This article examines the description of coping strategies used in dealing with social stereotypes and low psychological well-being in women with dual roles as housewives who already have children as well as honorary teachers in Padangan village, Tulungagung, East Java. This study aims to analyze the extent to which coping strategies are described based on the dimensions of psychological well-being and to analyze the extent to which factors play a role in determining appropriate coping strategies for women with multiple roles. Ecological development theory (ecological system theory) Urie Bronfenbrenner which emphasizes the role of the environment in the formation of human development and a multidimensional approach by Carol D. Ryff and Corey Lee M. Keyes psychological well-being theory is used to understand the factors that play a role in determine coping strategies by analyzing how positive changes women with multiple roles are facing based on the environment that influences them. This study used a qualitative method with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews with women with dual roles as honorary teachers who have 8 children as informants. Through this research, the authors found that women with multiple roles in Padangan village had various coping strategies, including problem focused coping strategies: instrumental social support from husbands and parents, and actively looking for opportunities to prove their abilities, while emotion focused coping strategies: inspiration from other people. others, good time management, worship, prayer, reading the Koran, attending recitations, listening to motivation, and getting help from a partner. Meanwhile, the factors that play a role in determining coping strategies are various conflicts: negative social stigma, poor time management, heavy workload, need for strong x support and financial problems. In addition, the stereotypes that arise from the environment of the ecosystem, microsystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem in women with multiple roles greatly determine the psychological well-being and coping strategies chosen. Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the role of peer support in shaping the self- confidence of adolescents at MAN 2 Medan. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with several purposively selected students. The findings indicate that peer support plays a significant role in enhancing adolescents' self- confidence through various forms of support, such as appreciation of opinions, social acceptance, encouragement, and positive group interactions. Adolescents who receive higher levels of peer support show greater courage, openness, and self-assurance compared to those with lower support. The study also reveals that peer support becomes more effective when reinforced by other factors such as parental support, a conducive school environment, and adolescents' selectivity in choosing friends. Therefore, it can be concluded that peer support is an essential social factor that contributes to the development and strengthening of adolescents' self-confidence.

Abstract

Group guidance is one of the services within guidance and counseling that plays a strategic role in developing students’ potential, particularly through constructive social interaction dynamics. This article discusses the application of enjoyable game-based simulation techniques in group guidance grounded in the philosophy of Ki Hadjar Dewantara, which emphasizes the principles of among, the tri-center of education, and the appreciation of learners’ natural and developmental characteristics. The purpose of this study is to describe the effectiveness of game simulations as a group guidance strategy to enhance students’ activeness, cooperation, and emotional engagement in social learning processes. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The results indicate that games designed according to students’ developmental stages are able to create a free, joyful, and meaningful atmosphere, encouraging active participation without pressure. Furthermore, the educational values of Ki Hadjar Dewantara are reflected in the guidance process through the cultivation of mutual respect, self-awareness, and collective responsibility. The game simulations also improve communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and reduce students’ tendency to exhibit passive behavior. Thus, enjoyable game simulation techniques can be recommended as an innovative method in group guidance services that align with national educational philosophy. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for guidance and counseling teachers in designing creative, humanistic, and character-oriented group guidance activities.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of aggressiveness among students of SMA Muhammadiyah Berau and its implications for the development of a comprehensive Guidance and Counseling (GC) program. The research employed a quantitative approach with a survey design. The instrument used was an aggressiveness scale adapted from the Aggression Questionnaire developed by Buss and Perry. Convenience sampling was applied, involving 35 student respondents. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics based on the mean, while validity and reliability testing were conducted using SPSS Statistics version 20. The results indicate that the majority of students (94%) fall into the low aggressiveness category, while 6% are categorized as having moderate aggressiveness, and no students were identified with high aggressiveness. These findings suggest that a conducive school climate and character education grounded in Islamic progressive values contribute positively to students’ ability to control aggressive behavior. From a comprehensive Guidance and Counseling perspective, the findings emphasize the importance of strengthening basic services as preventive efforts, providing responsive services for students with moderate aggressiveness, and enhancing system support through collaboration among counselors, subject teachers, homeroom teachers, and parents. The aggressiveness profile obtained from this study can serve as a foundation for planning and developing sustainable and needs-based comprehensive Guidance and Counseling services.

Abstract

Professional ethics play a vital role in the implementation of Guidance and Counseling (BK) services because they relate directly to the counselor's moral responsibility toward the counselee. Counseling services, built through intense interpersonal relationships, require counselors not only to obey the code of ethics normatively but also to possess reflective ethical awareness. This article aims to analyze the professional ethics of counselors from a moral philosophy perspective as a normative basis for ethical decision-making. This research employs a qualitative approach with a conceptual-philosophical design through a literature review of moral philosophy theories, counselor professional code of ethics documents, and scientific publications in the field of Guidance and Counseling. Data were analyzed descriptively and reflectively by placing the counselor's professional ethics within the frameworks of deontological, teleological, and virtue ethics. The results show that the principles of counselor professional ethics are based on universal moral values, such as respect for human dignity, responsibility, justice, and care. These three philosophical approaches complement each other in building a comprehensive understanding of professional ethics—one that is oriented not only toward rule compliance but also toward moral objectives and the formation of the counselor's character. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that a philosophical understanding of professional ethics is essential to strengthen moral integrity and the quality of humanistic and dignified counseling practices.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has significantly transformed the practice of Guidance and Counseling (GC), particularly through online counseling services, digital media use, and the application of artificial intelligence. While these advancements enhance accessibility and efficiency, they also raise ethical and scientific challenges that may undermine the scientific identity of GC. Therefore, a reflective framework is needed to reaffirm the scientific foundations and humanistic values of counseling practice in the digital era.This study aims to analyze the role of philosophy of science in Guidance and Counseling as a reflective foundation for addressing ethical and scientific challenges in the digital era. A literature review method was employed by examining scholarly books and peer-reviewed journal articles related to philosophy of science, professional ethics, and technology-based counseling practices. Data were analyzed qualitatively using content analysis to identify ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions relevant to digital counseling practices.The findings indicate that philosophy of science plays a crucial role in ensuring that counseling practice continues to view individuals as holistic subjects, maintains the validity of counseling knowledge, and upholds ethical and humanistic values in the use of technology. In conclusion, the integration of digital technology in Guidance and Counseling must be accompanied by philosophical reflection to ensure that counseling practices remain scientific, ethical, and human-centered.
