Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of comprehension and reading speed of students, the sample of which was students of SMAN 22 Bandung class XI-I. The data analysis technique was a test technique. Quantitative data analysis techniques were used to analyze the results of the reading comprehension test in the form of average scores. The data analysis procedure was to measure reading speed (KM) and measure reading ability (KMP). Based on the results of the study, it was found that the students' reading speed was 149.05 wpm with a reading comprehension of 59.07. This shows that the students' reading speed is still below the high school criteria of 250 wpm. Students are said to understand the contents of the reading if the level of comprehension reaches 40-60. In line with this statement, students can be said to understand the contents of the reading because they have a level of comprehension of 59.07. Therefore, it can be concluded that students tend to read carefully to better understand the contents of the reading text, which ultimately affects their reading speed to be below standard, while the understanding of the contents meets the student's standards.

Abstract

Reading is one of the important things in all kinds of learning processes. Through reading, various knowledge, which can lead to success, can be obtained. The purpose of this study was to determine the interest of class X-11 students in reading literature, both Sundanese literature and Indonesian literature. The results of the study showed that class X-11 students of SMAN 7 Tasikmalaya prefer to read stories in Indonesian compared to Sundanese. Some students said that Sundanese has many words that are very difficult to. understand, making them have to read repeatedly to understand. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative, with a questionnaire distribution technique to class X-11 students of SMAN 7 Tasikmalaya. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the reading interest of class X-11 students of SMAN 7 Tasikmalaya is still at a varying level, with a tendency to be quite low. Factors that influence include the availability of interesting reading materials, the use of more dominant digital media, and the lack of literacy culture in the school and family environment. Therefore, collaborative efforts are needed from schools, teachers, and parents to increase students’ motivation and interest in reading by providing adequate reading facilities, interesting literacy programs, and consistent support.

Abstract

The importance of reading as a basis for honing human abilities. Reading is a fundamental basic skill, becoming the basic foundation for various aspects of life, including learning, understanding, and personal development as well as improving language comprehension. Strong reading skills enable a person to master a field of study, access a lot of information, and broaden their horizons. The purpose of this study is so that researchers can invite readers to apply the mindset that reading plays a very important role in honing human abilities. Learning to read must be applied early on, and made a habit. Even though you can read, if you don't use it and don't make it a habit, it's useless. If someone can't read, the impact can be very broad, ranging from difficulty in learning, difficulty communicating, to lack of insight and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Literacy is a very important aspect of life, as it enables access to various types of information. However, among the younger generation, literacy is rarely sought and tends to be neglected. The purpose of this study is to describe the influence of literature on literacy among the younger generation, to develop critical thinking skills through literary literacy, and to identify efforts to increase awareness of literary literacy among the younger generation. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques in this study include a literature review and the distribution of questionnaires to respondents regarding issues examined in the research, which will produce efforts to maintain literary literacy among the younger generation, identify literary works that are attractive to the younger generation, and determine media preferred by the younger generation to encourage their interest in literary literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the importance of reading literacy in improving students' learning achievement and the factors that influence it both from internal and external aspects. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with literature study, which involves collecting and analyzing various written sources such as books, journals, articles, and official documents related to reading literacy and learning achievement. The results of the study indicate that reading literacy not only plays a role in the ability to understand texts, but also contributes significantly to students' motivation and academic achievement. Internal factors such as motivation, reading habits, and language skills as well as external factors such as family support, school environment, and community greatly determine students' reading interest. This study also highlights the importance of collaboration between teachers, parents, and the community in creating an environment that supports a culture of literacy so that students are able to achieve optimal learning achievement. In conclusion, improving reading literacy must be the main focus in educational strategies to face the challenges of today's digital era.

Abstract

Social media TikTok, as one of the platforms favored by the younger generation, has become a space for both visual and verbal expression that influences users’ communication patterns. This study aims to describe communication patterns on social media through code-mixing practices and to identify the factors influencing them. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data sources in the form of TikTok videos, while data collection techniques are carried out through observation of utterances in those videos. The results show that the forms of code mixing that appear include insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. The factors influencing the occurrence of code mixing include role identification, variety identification, and the speaker’s desire to clarify or emphasize meaning. Therefore, this study shows that code mixing in TikTok creators’ utterances not only functions as a linguistic practice but also as a communication strategy that reflects cultural identity and the expression of the younger generation on social media.

Abstract

The dominance of Indonesian in academic domains has narrowed the functional space of regional languages, including Sundanese, among young speakers. This study analyzes Sundanese–Indonesian bilingualism and diglossia among non-literary faculty students at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia by examining bilingual proficiency and language use patterns across academic and informal communication domains. A quantitative approach with a descriptive survey design was employed. Data were collected through a questionnaire from 28 non-literary faculty students with contact with Sundanese. The questionnaire measured self-rated proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading, writing, and the use of undak usuk basa Sunda on a five-point Likert scale, as well as the frequency of Sundanese, Indonesian, and mixed-language use across domains. The results indicate that receptive proficiency was higher than productive proficiency, with the highest mean score recorded for understanding daily conversations (4.29), while the lowest scores were found for the use of undak usuk basa Sunda (3.32) and writing (3.46). Indonesian dominated the academic domain, being used by 19 respondents in interactions with lecturers and 21 respondents when discussing academic topics, whereas mixed language was more frequent in informal communication, casual conversations (17 respondents) and personal topics (20 respondents).

Abstract

This study examines the 1923 Surat Keterangan Silsilah Raden Asmadiredja through a philological approach, focusing on manuscript description, diplomatic and standardized transcription, textual criticism, and historical-sociological interpretation. The study uses a family-archive copy as the primary source, supported by family informants and historical sources for genealogical comparison and validation. The findings show that the manuscript records the examination and affirmation of Raden Asmadiredja’s lineage by Raden Darsad, witnessed by Raden Toebagoes Kasoenan and Raden Hadji Hasan. The genealogy connects Raden Asmadiredja’s lineage through figures associated with Sukabumi, Bogor, and Jatinegara to Sultan Abul Fath Abdul Fattah of Banten. This connection is interpreted specifically as evidence concerning one Sundanese menak lineage and is not generalized to Sundanese nobility as a whole. The study contributes to Sundanese philology by providing a critical transcription and contextual interpretation of a previously underexamined genealogical manuscript. It also demonstrates that historical genealogical claims require documentary comparison and validation to clarify lineage connections, social identity, and historical memory within specific regional contexts. By emphasizing systematic evidence, the study distinguishes documented genealogical relationships from inherited claims and offers a cautious framework for interpreting ancestry preserved in historical manuscripts and regional historical continuity patterns.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the forms and types of Indonesian–Sundanese code switching and code mixing and to explain the factors influencing their occurrence in @inimamutt_’s TikTok videos. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected using listening and note-taking techniques from the five latest TikTok videos uploaded to the @inimamutt_ account in November 2025. The analysis identified 33 utterances containing code switching and code mixing, comprising 14 and 19 instances of code switching and 19 instances of code mixing. All code-switching instances were categorized as internal code-switching, involving shifts between Indonesian and Sundanese, while all code-mixing instances were categorized as inner code-mixing, involving the insertion of Sundanese elements into Indonesian utterances. The findings indicate that code mixing occurred more frequently than code switching and was predominantly used to create social closeness, humor, expressive variation, and local identity in informal interactions. Meanwhile, code switching was used as a contextual communication strategy to adjust to interlocutors and clarify meanings. These findings demonstrate that Indonesian–Sundanese code switching and code mixing in TikTok videos are dynamic sociolinguistic practices that reflect bilingual language use, social relationships, local identity, and adaptation to digital communication contexts.

Abstract

This study examines expressive speech acts in Korean-accented Sundanese and viewers’ perceptions of TikTok content by @Vansa.be from a sociolinguistic perspective. It aims to describe the types of expressive speech acts used by the creator, examine the function of Korean accent stylization in Sundanese utterances, and analyze viewers’ interpretations of this linguistic style. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using digital observation and documentation. The data consisted of purposively selected TikTok videos and viewers’ comments, analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model with reference to expressive speech acts, stylization, and audience reception theory. The findings indicate that humor and complaints were the most prominent expressive speech acts. Korean accent stylization functioned to construct a comedic character and represent a hybrid identity connecting local and global cultural elements. Viewers’ responses were generally positive, particularly perceiving the speaking style as interesting and entertaining, although some reported difficulties understanding the linguistic forms. These findings suggest that Korean-accented Sundanese functions as a stylistic resource for entertainment, identity expression, and cultural meaning negotiation in digital communication. The study contributes to sociolinguistic research by illustrating the intersection of expressive speech acts, linguistic stylization, and audience reception in regional-language use on social media.
