Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate how religious behavior affects student learning achievement at MTs Salafiyah Mojogeneng Mojokerto. This study used a quantitative approach, and data were collected through questionnaires and documentation of report cards (variable X: religious behavior). The research sample consisted of 64 students out of 427 students. To determine the relationship between the two variables, the data were analyzed using Pearson's Product Moment correlation. The results showed that students' religious behavior was good (score 79.56) and learning achievement was good (score 76.66). The correlation analysis found a coefficient of r = 0.8002, which indicates a strong positive relationship between the two. This result shows that students' learning achievement increases along with their religious behavior. The theory reinforced by this study is that the internalization of religious values can have an impact on spiritual (SQ), emotional (EQ), and intellectual (IQ) intelligence, all of which impact academic success. Thus, faith-based educational institutions such as pesantren have the ability to maximize religious character development to support students' academic progress.

Abstract

This study explores strategies to strengthen students’ learning motivation based on the Trilogy of Santri and the Five Awarenesses of Santri at SMP Nurul Jadid, Probolinggo. The research addresses the issue of low learning motivation, seen in students’ limited participation, low initiative, and weak academic discipline. Using a qualitative case study approach through interviews, observations, and documentation, the study examines how the Trilogy of Santri—fardhu ‘ain awareness, avoidance of major sins, and noble character—and the Five Awarenesses—religious, scientific, social, national, and organizational—can enhance motivation. The findings show that integrating these values improves students’ discipline, academic responsibility, intrinsic motivation, and active engagement in learning and community life. The study concludes that strengthening learning motivation through religious and moral foundations provides an effective model for modern Islamic education, fostering balanced intellectual, spiritual, and social development among students

Abstract

This study analyzes the comparative teaching methods used in Islamic education, focusing on Islamic secondary schools and pesantren in Indonesia. Using a literature review approach, the research examines academic books, journal articles, and educational reports to identify the characteristics, strengths, and limitations of both traditional and modern teaching methods. The findings indicate that traditional methods are effective in strengthening students’ understanding of classical religious texts, cultivating discipline, and preserving Islamic scholarly traditions. However, these methods provide limited support for the development of critical thinking and creativity. In contrast, modern teaching methods enhance student motivation, active engagement, and the ability to relate learning materials to real-life contexts and the demands of the digital era, although their implementation is often hindered by technological limitations and teachers’ competencies. Overall, the study concludes that both methods demonstrate distinct forms of effectiveness and complement one another. Integrating traditional and modern approaches is therefore considered the most relevant strategy for developing Islamic education that is comprehensive, adaptive, and aligned with contemporary educational needs

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of deepened learning of the Qur’an and Hadith and its impact on enhancing religious literacy and character formation among students at SMPN 1 Patamuan, West Sumatra. The background of the research arises from the low interest in reading the Qur’an, limited understanding of Hadith, and the insufficient internalization of moral values in students’ daily lives. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study involved Qur’an–Hadith teachers, students, and school administrators as key informants through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis. Data were examined using Miles and Huberman’s model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that deepened learning of the Qur’an and Hadith through methods such as tadabbur, simple interpretation, value-based discussions, and religious practices significantly contributes to students’ spiritual, moral, and social development. Activities such as tadarus, short sermons, character journals, and social projects help students internalize Qur’anic values and apply them in their behavior. Moreover, teacher role modeling, a religious school culture, and collaboration with families strengthen the process of character formation. This study concludes that reflective, contextual, and practice-oriented Qur’an–Hadith learning is an effective strategy to improve students’ religious literacy and foster noble character at the junior secondary school level. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for schools in developing more transformative and applicable Islamic education models.

Abstract

Effective fiqh instruction requires an approach that goes beyond cognitive understanding by integrating affective and psychomotor dimensions to achieve deep internalization of religious values. This study examines a practical fiqh learning model within the context of Islamic funeral rites as a medium for strengthening students’ religious internalization. Using a qualitative literature-based approach, the analysis explores how practical fiqh instruction can systematically integrate theory and hands-on practice to enhance both conceptual comprehension and relevant skills. The findings indicate that a practical learning model grounded in constructivism, observational learning, and Kolb’s experiential learning cycle effectively incorporates Glock and Stark’s five dimensions of religiosity through three stages of value internalization: transformation, transaction, and transinternalization. Learning strategies such as demonstration, direct practice, simulation, critical reflection, and field visits are shown to foster awareness of mortality, social solidarity, empathy, and modesty. Despite challenges—including limited facilities, emotional resistance, and varying teacher competencies—the model offers significant contributions to Islamic education by promoting a more relevant, meaningful, and applicable learning experience

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the difficulties in reading the Qur’an among eleventh-grade students at SMAN 5 Kota Pariaman, identify the internal and external factors influencing these difficulties, and evaluate the impact of the tadarus program and teachers’ efforts in addressing them. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using field research. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews with students and teachers, and documentation. Data validity was ensured through source and method triangulation, while data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the main difficulties experienced by students include incorrect pronunciation of hijaiyah letters (makhraj), improper application of tajwid rules—particularly the rules of mad—and inaccuracies in determining waqaf. Dominant internal factors include low motivation and interest, feelings of embarrassment, lack of self-confidence, and limited practice. External factors involve inconsistent teacher guidance, a less conducive classroom environment, limited time allocation for tadarus, and insufficient parental support. Nevertheless, the tadarus activity has shown positive impacts, including gradual improvement in reading accuracy and increased self-confidence among students. The study concludes that difficulties in reading the Qur’an are multidimensional; therefore, an integrated approach involving strengthened tajwid instruction, personalized mentoring, and collaboration between school and family is necessary.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools play an important role in shaping the character and religious understanding of students, but many students still experience difficulties in reading and understanding classical tafsir books, especially Tafsir Jalalain, which requires mastery of nahwu, sharaf, and the skill of reading Arabic texts without harakat. Previous studies generally discuss the talaqqi method in learning the Qur'an or yellow books in general, while studies that specifically examine its application in learning classical tafsir are still limited. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the implementation of the talaqqi method in improving the reading ability of Tafsir Jalalain at the Nurul Yaqin Gadur Islamic Boarding School. This study uses a qualitative approach with a field research type. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the talaqqi method, planned in a structured manner and implemented through direct interaction between teachers and students, significantly improved the accuracy of reading and understanding of verse meanings. The success of this method was supported by the role of teachers and student motivation, although challenges still existed in terms of facilities and the variety of learning resources. This research provides a theoretical contribution to the development of tafsir learning methodology and a practical contribution to improving the quality of classical tafsir learning in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

The Indonesian government has taken strategic steps to improve the quality of education, with an emphasis on improving the quality of educators and education personnel who play a crucial role in the education system. This effort includes developing teacher professionalism and competence. This study aims to examine the extent to which the implementation of academic supervision has improved teacher professionalism in the Merdeka Curriculum. This research was conducted using qualitative descriptive research utilizing literature studies. The descriptive research method is an approach that aims to provide an overview of various possible solutions to address current problems. The research results show that effective and continuous academic supervision can improve teacher professionalism and support the optimal implementation of the Independent Curriculum. The impact of academic supervision is evident in improved teacher competency in lesson planning, changes in teaching practices to be more innovative and student-centered, and teachers' ability to carry out learning assessments more systematically. Furthermore, the implementation of the Independent Curriculum also encourages the creation of a more enjoyable and participatory learning environment for teachers, students, and parents, as schools are given the flexibility to develop learning according to the needs and characteristics of students. Thus, academic supervision plays a crucial role as a means of developing teacher professionalism in supporting improvements in the quality of learning

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of a humanistic approach grounded in the Love-Based Curriculum (Kurikulum Cinta) to enhance the student engagement of children of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) at Pondok Pesantren An-Nahdloh, Tanjung Sepat, Malaysia. A desciptive qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, focusing on the social context of migrant children’s education. Participants were purposively selected and included the pesantren leader, teachers (ustaz/ustazah), PMI students, and community support actors. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using an interactive thematic procedure involving data reduction, data display, and verification. The findings show that the Love-Based Curriculum is implemented primarily through everyday relational practices, such as warm, empathetic, and non-repressive teacher-student interactions, supportive mentoring, and contextualized and reflective learning. These practices contribute to strengthening behavioral engagement (attendance, participation, discipline), emotional engagement (sense of safety, belonging, and closeness to teachers), and cognitive engagement (questioning, persistence, and learning strategies), with the strongest effects observed in the emotional and behavioral dimensions. This study also situates the Love-Based Curriculum in a diaspora context, extending the literature on student engagement and humanistic education. The findings suggest that diaspora pesantren function not only as educational institutions but also as spaces of social protection and psychosocial recovery for migrant children.
