Abstract

Bawang merah (Allium cepa L.) merupakan tanaman pangan yang dapat digunakan untuk mengobati dan mencegah berbagai penyakit. Salah satu bagian dari bawang merah yang dapat dimanfaatkan yaitu pada bagian akar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui daya hambat akar bawang merah terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen laboratorium, yaitu ekstrak akar bawang merah dibuat 5 kosentrasi yaitu 5%, 10%, 20%, 30%, dan 40%, yang diuji pada bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dengan menggunakan metode sumuran agar. Pengujian dilakukan sebanyak 3 kali pengulangan dengan menggunakan amoxicillin 1% sebagai kontrol positif dan aquadest sebagai kontrol negatif. Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa luas zona hambat pada konsentrasi 5% adalah 3,84 mm, 10% adalah 4,40 mm, 20% adalah 4,83 mm, 30% adalah 5,41 mm, dan 40% adalah 6,13 mm. Abstract

Vaginal discharge is a common reproductive health problem among adolescent girls and may be influenced by personal hygiene practices and knowledge of reproductive health. Female students living in Islamic boarding schools are at higher risk due to shared facilities, crowded dormitories, and limited access to health services. This study aimed to describe personal hygiene, level of knowledge, and the incidence of vaginal discharge among female students at Wali Songo Putri Islamic Boarding School, Banjarbaru, in 2026. This research used a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 78 female students, and 55 respondents were selected using purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected using a closed-ended questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis and presented in frequency distribution tables. The results showed that most respondents had good personal hygiene, with 26 students (47.3%), followed by moderate personal hygiene with 21 students (38.2%) and poor personal hygiene with 8 students (14.5%). The level of knowledge about vaginal discharge was mostly good, with 24 students (43.6%), followed by moderate knowledge with 21 students (38.2%) and poor knowledge with 10 students (18.2%). The incidence of vaginal discharge showed that 48 students (87.3%) experienced pathological vaginal discharge, 6 students (10.9%) experienced physiological vaginal discharge, and 1 student (1.8%) did not experience vaginal discharge. In conclusion, most female students had good personal hygiene and good knowledge; however, the incidence of pathological vaginal discharge remained high. Therefore, reproductive health education, improvement of sanitation facilities, and early health screening are needed to prevent pathological vaginal discharge among female students.

Abstract

Typhoid fever (demam tifoid) merupakan penyakit infeksi sistemik akut yang disebabkan oleh bakteri Salmonella enterica khususnya serovar Typhi. Penegakan diagnosa secara cepat dan akurat sangat krusial untuk mencegah komplikasi berat. Uji Widal metode slide merupakan salah satu metode serologis yang paling sering digunakan di fasilitas kesehatan karena efisiensi waktu dan biaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hasil pemeriksaan Widal metode slide dalam mendiagnosis demam tifoid pada pasien di Klinik Kuri Prima Husada. Desain penelitian bersifat deskriptif kuantitatif dengan sampel sebanyak 20 pasien suspek demam tifoid. Data dianalisis berdasarkan karakteristik demografi (usia dan jenis kelamin) serta pola reaktivitas titer antibodi terhadap antigen spesifik (H, AH, BH, CH, O, AO, BO, CO). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan distribusi pasien didominasi oleh perempuan (60%) dengan rerata usia 28,1 tahun. Analisis titer antibodi menunjukkan tingginya reaktivitas pada Antigen O dan Antigen H, di mana titer ≥ 1/160 ditemukan signifikan pada pasien yang terkonfirmasi klinis. Berdasarkan data klinis ini, uji Widal metode slide tetap memiliki nilai diagnostik skrining yang baik jika dikorelasikan secara ketat dengan manifestasi klinis pasien..

Abstract

Chronic inflammation plays a significant role in various degenerative diseases and is often associated with oxidative stress. Black honey is known to contain bioactive compounds that possess potential anti-inflammatory properties through antioxidant mechanisms. This study aimed to evaluate the pharmacological potential of East Kolaka black honey as a natural anti-inflammatory agent based on its antioxidant activity and total phenolic content. This in vitro experimental study employed the Folin-Ciocalteu method to determine total phenolic content and the DPPH assay to measure antioxidant activity. All analyses were performed in triplicate. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and Pearson correlation analysis with a significance level of p < 0.05. The total phenolic content of East Kolaka black honey was 33.1 ± 0.65 mg GAE/g. Antioxidant activity exhibited an IC₅₀ value of 48.7 ppm with a regression coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.963. A significant negative correlation was observed between total phenolic content and IC₅₀ values (r = -0.92; p = 0.018). East Kolaka black honey demonstrated strong antioxidant activity and possesses promising pharmacological potential as a natural anti-inflammatory agent through phenolic compound-based mechanisms. Further studies are required to confirm its biological effects using cellular and in vivo models.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a public health problem transmitted by Aedes sp. mosquitoes. Vector control generally uses synthetic insecticides, but their continued use can lead to resistance and negative impacts on the environment. Plantain peel (Musa paradisiaca L.) is known to contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins that have the potential as botanical insecticides. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of plantain peel extract (Musa paradisiaca L.) as an insecticide against Aedes sp. mosquitoes through an electric method. This study is an experimental study with a completely randomized design (CRD). Plantain peel extract was tested at four concentrations, namely 0.25%; 0.50%; 0.75%; and 1.00%. Each treatment used 20 Aedes sp. mosquitoes and was repeated three times. The positive control used an electric mat containing 0.01 g/L d-allethrin, while the negative control used distilled water. Observations were made for 24 hours by counting the number of mosquito deaths in each treatment. The results showed that the percentage of Aedes sp. mosquito deaths increased along with increasing extract concentration. A concentration of 0.25% caused 13% mortality, a concentration of 0.50% of 40%, a concentration of 0.75% of 53%, and a concentration of 1.00% of 67%. The positive control showed 100% mortality, while the negative control did not cause mosquito mortality. A concentration of 1.00% provided the highest effectiveness in killing Aedes sp. mosquitoes. Banana peel extract (Musa paradisiaca L.) has insecticidal activity against Aedes sp. mosquitoes through an electric method. Concentrations of 0.75% and 1.00% have met the effective criteria with a mortality rate of more than 50%, so it has the potential to be developed as an alternative environmentally friendly plant-based insecticide.
