Abstract

"Toya", the Sanskrit for water, has an excellent value for the survival of living things in the world. Around 71% of the earth's surface is covered by water, whereas the oceans hold about 96.5% of all water. The sea is currently affected by contamination from waste or garbage such as plastic, metal, glass, wood, paper, rubber, clothing, and textiles. The lack of public awareness of maintaining environmental cleanliness contributes to trash accumulation in the ocean, which also impacts marine ecosystems. One part of the marine ecosystems affected by marine trash is coral sponges through the implementation of augmented reality (AR) based science technology by creating applications that can be used as a medium of information about coral sponges in the form of three-dimensional (3D) objects, as well as a tangible layout of providing education about the diversity of marine ecosystems, especially the types of coral sponges. The data in this study were collected through direct observation, using the MDLC (Multimedia Development Life Cycle) method to create coral sponges augmented reality applications. Based on the application of the MDLC method to the coral sponges augmented reality application, the augmented reality coral sponges application can be realized and run on android mobile devices with excellent performance. This application has succeeded in bringing up various types of coral sponges in the form of three-dimensional (3D) objects as a form of information and educational media to the users about the importance of keeping the environment clean from marine trash to maintain the sustainability of the marine ecosystem for a better future.

Abstract

Kramat Karem is one of the repertoires of Gambang Kromong songs whose lyrics describe the historical eruption of Mount Krakatau in 1883. To understand natural disasters, apart from weather forecasts, people need to understand the local wisdom of their ancestors in preserving nature. After the eruption which created the tsunami at Jakarta and Lampung, the ancestors of Betawi felt the need to share these historical events in saga stories and traditional songs. The song's lyric contains local wisdom regarding natural events and is passed on to the next generation to preserve nature in everyday life. Unfortunately, these days only a few can understand such songs. This study aims to examine the relationship of the text in a cultural context and the function of socializing local wisdom through the song. This research uses qualitative methods so that naturalistic, basic, and profound things can be obtained more accurately. The data collected through literature studies, interviews and observations in the community were analyzed using ethnomusicological theory and social anthropology, which help analyze the function of music in a cultural context. This study is expected to produce recommendations for coastal communities to appreciate and pay close attention to natural phenomena through local wisdom in the song Kramat Karem. In addition, the results of this study also become a trigger and impetus for local communities to strengthen traditional music as a medium of communication and socialization of local wisdom.

Abstract

Water is a natural element for human survival, not just fulfilling daily needs in activities such as drinking, bathing, and others. Water has a crucial role in the process of life. This role indicates that water is a symbol attached to every living thing, especially humans. The relationship between water and humans is often visualized in various forms and mediums. One of them is in the digital comic Bang Gaber by Rizal Fahmi, which features the element of water in the digital comic theme. The use of water elements and symbols is one of the attractions of the digital comic to be studied more deeply related to its visual structure. This research is included in the Qualitative, using an approach to the Science of Fine Arts (Comic). The data source is Rizal Fahmi, comic artist of Bang Gaber, taken from Instagram. Data collection techniques through observation and visual studies. Data analysis with the support of the relevant literature review on the visual structure. The theory used to analyze is the structuralism theory of Levi-Strauss about the structure in a comic artwork. The research results show that the visual structure of digital comics with the theme of water in comics consists of the surface structure as a tangible visualization of water as an object that delivers philosophical thinking in life and is symbolized metaphorically. At the same time, deep structures are in the form of wisdom, toughness, and self-acceptance. Given that Bang Gaber's Digital Comics is one of the revivals of Indonesian comics, comic book fans may easily access them. Visual analysis is necessary to uncover the emerging visual structure and understand this digital comic's messages and meanings.

Abstract

This study aims to profoundly understand the role of water in creating the Rangda Mask by Tjokorda Oka Tublen Singapadu Gianyar. In creating the Rangda mask, water is one of the most important means of a “sekala niskala.” However, until now, there has been no in-depth study of water’s role in creating the Rangda Mask. Therefore, the questions are: (1) What is water’s role in making the Rangda Mask by Tjokorda Oka Tublen? (2) What is the process of making the Rangda Mask by Tjokorda Oka Tublen? This research uses a qualitative approach to analyze the phenomena related to the process of its creation. The data source comes from Topeng Rangda by Tjokorda Oka Tublen (the sangging, artists) using purposive sampling and snowball. The data collection technique uses observation, interviews, and document studies. As well as solving the problem using the theories of the creation process as the leading theory and supported by aesthetic and functional, structural theory, the research results show that: (1) Water has a vital role in creating the Rangda Mask on a sekala-niskala. Regularly, water is used as a cleanser for the maker’s body and tools. In contrast, niskala water is used as tirtha (holy water) for ritual purification. (2) The process of creation is taken through several stages: newasen, nyalonan, makalan, nadiang, nelesang, ngalusang, ngewarna, and pasupati. Finally, after all the stages are passed, the Rangda mask that is sacred and profane is realized.

In dissecting this question, the aesthetic theory is used and supported by hermeneutics theory.
