Abstract

“Liquidity, Inc.” is an unpredictable video art that plays for 30 minutes. What’s being shown by the artwork might not be something that we can relate to straight away, moreover in the context of Bali. However, this paper aims to pour the artwork back to another clean container, to look back at one of Hito Steyerl’s bizarrely montaged fictional documentaries. As water becomes a more and more important matter to talk, think and encounter within our daily lives in the changing climate, along with possible connections on Bali’s tirta (water) belief, this writing aims to give a perspective on how we could view water in its present and future, in Bali and beyond, through an artwork such as “Liquidity, Inc.”

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ceremonial waste of the Hindu community in Bali which can be used as an environmentally friendly textile dye. In carrying out religious ceremonies, the Hindu community in Bali makes offerings such as offerings that cannot be utilized optimally after the ceremony takes place so most of it becomes organic waste. In this study, the waste of Hindu ceremonies in Bali in the form of organic waste will be tested to produce a solution of natural dyes using a pre-experimental method. The pre-experimental method explores the extraction technique of several samples of organic waste with water as a solvent on textile materials, namely cotton cloth. The process of making this natural dye solution goes through three main processes, namely pre-mordant, extraction of dye raw materials, and fixation. Some samples of organic waste found in Hindu religious ceremonies in Bali have plant color pigments such as balsamina purple, red, hydrangea, marigold, pandan leaves, shallot skin, turmeric, and areca nut was extracted to produce a natural color solution. The extraction of the color solution is able to bring out several color tones on textile materials, namely cotton fabrics. Through this research, it is hoped that it can be one of the people’s choices in producing natural color as textile materials that can be produced simply as well as an effort to reduce organic waste produced in Hindu community ceremonies in Bali.

Abstract

Earth is the only planet in space that has an ocean of water on its surface. The world is mostly covered by sea level. The oceans play an essential role in Earth's climate and the world's water cycle. The water cycle never stops from the atmosphere to the Earth, one of which is the ocean. The sea itself is a global water system that connected. The influence of currents in the sea causes waves. The waves crashing and rolling in the sea create inspiration in designing a dress. The method used in analyzing the aesthetics of this art fashion form is a qualitative research method. The qualitative approach aims to describe an object or problem under study. Collecting data is in the form of documentation and a literature study. Sustainable fashion in the form of free styling draping is one of the solutions to responding to the latest fashion trends. This piece of clothing is sewed 100 percent using hand stitches, with the freestyling draping technique (making clothes by draping, pleating, twisting, wrapping, sewn without cutouts, and machine stitching). This technique is one way to respond to sustainability because the work can be unstitched as a sheet of cloth and can do a new job again. Segara kelangon means the beauty of the sea's waves, the endless ocean applied by the freestyling draping technique that is not cut off. The aesthetics of this clothing include a cocktail dress intended for morning or afternoon parties. The light blue or light blue color itself symbolizes honesty and trust.

Abstract

Synthetic fabric dyes pollute rivers and other water sources due to poor waste management and the high demand to create fabric for the fast fashion industry. Although water is an essential source for fabric dyeing, the merit of water is contradictive in this point due to its role in dyeing fabric but having its source polluted. The subject of fabric dyes, their formulation, and their techniques were discussed the most in academia, not only in fashion but also in science. However, there needs to be more discussion regarding how fresh water became a primary material to create fabric dyes or dye the fabric itself. This study focuses on how water plays a significant role in the fabric dyeing process for the fashion industry and its impact on the environment. Qualitative methods applied in this research include data collection, such as a literature review. Citarum river and its watercourses became an example of how freshwater resources support the factories' production process in the fashion industry. Data collection is analyzed based on the sustainable theory applied in textile and fashion. Water was a significant primary material in the fabric dyeing process in this study. Furthermore, fresh water is needed to produce a coloured fabric using synthetic dyes. Additionally, there is a concern regarding waste treatment to avoid water pollution. Water waste from natural dyes does not pollute the environment and could be a better alternative to reduce water usage and pollution from synthetic dyes.

Abstract

In Charles Sanders Peirce's theory, visual semiotics is the thinking behind how the representative could present a message with a suitable object for the audience as an interpreter. This research is conducted to learn visualization as an object; that could represent emotional correlation in one of AQUA's advertisements, titled "Family is the Most Important for Me". The research team found out that the correlation message in these ads is far from the product category itself; as bottled mineral water, this brand should not be consumed by a one-year-old child. In addition, the research team got a visual jump into the scene and considered dissociation in advertising message continuity. This research utilizes qualitative methods that divide several visual scenes in the ads and apply them to visual semiotics, focusing on object segmentation that implies content, context, and form. Data was collected by literature study, discussion with field experts, collecting data through video and social media, and interviews with advertising agencies and related advertising producers. These data were studied and divided scene by scene, correlated with visual semiotics and discussion results, then re-discussed with advertising agencies and producers to be concluded—the research team enlightened by advertising agency strategy, which is shrewdly sublimed visual, emotional message as the semiotic comparison. Also, in terms of continuity, these ads are visualized by a mother acting to protect her child and then being metaphorized to the mother's passion for protecting her child, sublimed with how AQUA protects nature quality.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the figurative language used in the text Puranjana Becomes Woman in The Next Life. In addition, the cultural values conveyed by the figurative language will also be presented. It will be significant for those engaged in the figure of speech and those who love to use figurative language in their performances. This study needs to be researched because it is a religious text with the figurative language of their cultural values. The meanings of the figurative language must be distinct from the text's theme, which is in line with the cultural values of the text. The data about figurative languages are collected through library research and analyzed based on semantic theory and cultural elements since cultural elements are needed to reveal the cultural values of the text. In this study, the cultural elements are limited to custom and tradition. This paper will provide an understanding of a religious text, specifically in relation to cultural value. Besides, this paper can contribute to the education world and help people gain insight into cultural values from a religious text.

Abstract

Water is the source of human life both personally and communally. As a source of life, the benefits of water are very diverse, especially as a source of energy for living things, in humans, water is an important factor because it has a percentage of 70%. The magnitude of the benefits of water, turns out to have a relationship with the chemical formula, namely H2O, a compound that has perfect bonds. The concept of perfect value in the complementary chemical bonds of water provides a way to implement the value of its valence electrons by working on interlocking pitch combinations in musical compositions. The research method uses Practice Led Research with the aspect of reflection that has a relationship with practice so that the relationship consists of several stages, namely: literature study, sound synthesis, complementary experiment, evaluation and reflection. Research shows that the combination of pitch tones is part of the mathematical function of a musical series, the output of Led Research is in the form of a musical "+26"
