Abstract

User perception and preference play a crucial role in accepting upcycled products, with 85% of respondents valuing aesthetics as a key factor. The waste fabric is processed through creative innovation and upcycling to enhance its value. Batik was chosen for its cultural significance, with Buketan motifs as an example of motif application. This study examines user perceptions and preferences regarding Batik motifs on upcycling products, focusing on aesthetics and functionality. An online survey gathered responses from 68 female participants aged up to 35. Thematic analysis identified patterns in user views related to aesthetics, functionality, and cultural value. Findings suggest that Batik motifs can enhance the visual appeal of upcycled products and add cultural identity, though some motifs may lack versatility. While users see market potential, premium pricing could limit acceptance. This highlights the importance of balancing creative product development with sustainable thinking and customer acceptance to enhance the appeal of upcycled products with batik-based aesthetics.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the process of role-changing taken by the author, who designs his book covers using the pseudonym “369”. The author's knowledge and experiences in self-publishing showed how his process relates to what is now known as visual communication design democratization. Schleiermacher's hermeneutic perspective is used to comprehend the process of the roles-changing and thoughts of the designer/author in exploring knowledge of visual communication design, which may be understood through other perspectives held by 369. By using an empathetic and divinatory approach, as Schleiermacher suggested, this study finds the transtextual relationship between the book cover design as text and the text of the book's contents, as well as other texts from the same author. This transtextual relationship becomes a way to re-reflect on the democratization of visual communication design.

Subahnale’s existence is not only in digital mascot designs but is widely used by the younger generation in illustration designs and others. However, what values are contained in Subahnale’s motives in communicating in the Mataram city elections? This research aims to examine the value of Subahnale’s identity in the digital design of the Mataram City Pilkada mascot. Using qualitative methods, data collection was carried out through interviews, visual analysis of Subahnale motifs, and literature reviews and was based on Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The research results show that Subahnale’s mascot design will increase its aesthetic appeal. Subahnale is digitally relevant in modern visual communication, demonstrating emotional value that encourages community involvement and strengthens local identity. The implications of the results of this research strengthen the political value of branding in safe, honest, and fair regional election activities.

Abstract

Binaural music, which is characterized by the presentation of two slightly different sound frequencies to each ear, has gained increasing attention owing to its potential positive effects on the brain. Research suggests that binaural beats can influence cognitive and emotional states by modulating brainwave activity. When the brain perceives the difference between the two frequencies, it generates a third "perceived" frequency, known as a binaural beat, which corresponds to specific brainwave states (delta, theta, alpha, beta, or gamma). These brainwave states are linked to various mental and physiological benefits, including relaxation, improved focus, enhanced creativity, reduced anxiety, and better sleep quality. Additionally, studies have indicated that regular exposure to binaural beats may promote neuroplasticity, improve memory retention, and facilitate the brain’s capacity for learning and information processing. This abstract provides a concise overview of how binaural music may serve as a tool to improve mental health, cognitive performance, and emotional well-being, offering a promising avenue for therapeutic and wellness applications. Further research is needed to explore the long-term effects and optimal conditions for the impact of binaural music on brain function.

Abstract

The practice of sampling-capturing, manipulating, and recontextualizing sounds from the physical world-has become the cornerstone of digital music production. Among the diverse ranges of sampled sounds, object sounds-auditory impressions derived from everyday items and environments-offer unique creative possibilities. This study explores the process of incorporating object sounds into digital music, examining how they can be recorded, manipulated, and transformed through various digital tools and techniques. The ability to sample objects provides musicians and sound designers with a rich palette to create unconventional textures, rhythms, and sonic landscapes. Additionally, this exploration delves into the psychological and emotional impact of object-based sounds on listeners, considering how they evoke memories, sensations, or associations. By investigating the intersection of field recording, digital processing, and music composition, this study underscores the artistic potential of object sounds in shaping the future of experimental and mainstream music production. As digital tools evolve, the role of object sounds continues to expand, thereby encouraging new forms of auditory expressions and interactivity in the music industry.

Abstract

This article examines the evolving role of digital art as a social integrator, with a particular focus on the digital art scene in Kazakhstan. Art has long sought to create emotional and spiritual balance, mediating between contrasts like past and future, reality and dreams, and internal and external worlds. Today, with the rapid development of technology and globalization, art increasingly engages with digital media to perform its communicative and harmonizing functions. The work of contemporary Kazakh digital artists, such as Danabol Birlesbek and Magnificum, addresses significant social issues, including national identity, domestic violence, and environmental concerns. Through their art, these creators provoke reflection on the rapidly changing society in Kazakhstan. Additionally, the article explores the innovative approaches taken by multimedia exhibitions, such as those at Lumiere-Hall in Almaty. These exhibits merge traditional art with new media, transforming the experience into something more immersive and interactive. For instance, the exhibition Salvador Dali. Cryptography blends recognizable Dali imagery with symbolic and interactive digital elements, requiring viewers to actively interpret the narrative rather than passively observe. The article also highlights the work of Nargis Rakhmanova and other Kazakh artists who use digital art as a bridge between traditional cultural values and contemporary social issues. These artists contribute not only to the development of art but also to public discourse on topics such as gender, identity, and family dynamics. By incorporating modern technology into their practices, Kazakh digital artists play a crucial role in shaping the country's cultural transformation and fostering deeper societal dialogue.
