Abstract

Research on the bioactivity of Antarctic organisms has garnered significant attention due to the continent's unique environmental conditions and the potential therapeutic value of its inhabitants. This study delves into the bioactivity of Pagodroma nivea, commonly known as the Snow Petrel, found in Antarctica, aiming to explore its medicinal potential. Despite previous research highlighting the bioactivity of various organisms in extreme environments, specific investigations into Pagodroma nivea remain scarce. Farmacoantarctic Research offers a promising avenue for exploring the therapeutic properties of Antarctic organisms, including Pagodroma nivea, traditionally used for medicinal purposes by local communities. Understanding the biochemical adaptations of organisms to Antarctica's extreme conditions is crucial, as these adaptations may yield bioactive compounds with pharmacological potential. The research not only seeks to uncover the bioactivity of Pagodroma nivea but also aims to contribute to drug development and environmental conservation efforts. In a parallel discussion, the study examines Mumijo, a traditional remedy found in various regions, including Antarctica. Chemical analysis of Mumijo extract, particularly the ester wax fraction, reveals its potential biomedical applications, including wound healing, skin diseases, and neuroprotection. The presence of glycerol-related ethers in Antarctic Mumijo suggests further avenues for exploration in neuroprotection and antimicrobial properties. By investigating the bioactivity of Antarctic organisms like Pagodroma nivea and Mumijo, this research offers insights into their therapeutic potential and underscores the importance of conservation efforts to preserve these unique ecosystems.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an endemic disease caused by dengue virus infection transmitted through the main vector, the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Transmission of this disease is influenced by environmental factors, human behavior, and inadequate sanitation conditions. This article aims to discuss effective environmental sanitation management in suppressing the Aedes aegypti vector population and preventing the spread of DHF. Several aspects analyzed include the provision of clean water, the habit of hanging clothes, management of water reservoirs (TPA), the condition of trash bins, and the presence of pots or other containers that have the potential to become mosquito breeding grounds. Good environmental management, such as the application of the 3M method (Draining, Covering, and Recycling), the use of larvicide, and routine cleaning of places that have the potential to become mosquito nests, has been proven to be able to significantly reduce vector density. In addition, planning vector eradication through abatization and fogging methods in densely populated areas is also a strategic step in reducing DHF cases. By increasing public awareness of the importance of environmental sanitation, it is hoped that dengue virus transmission can be minimized, so that extraordinary events (KLB) of DHF can be prevented.

Abstract

Communal Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is a domestic wastewater management system designed to serve several households in one community. The goal is to treat domestic liquid waste centrally so that it is safe for the environment. Communal WWTP is very important, especially in dense residential areas that cannot be served by individual or centralized wastewater treatment systems. This wastewater treatment process involves pipelines connected to storage tanks and wastewater treatment units built according to technical standards to prevent leakage and environmental pollution. Domestic liquid waste, such as greywater and blackwater, which is not properly treated can have negative impacts, including health problems, environmental degradation, and aesthetic damage. Therefore, community participation in the planning, construction, and maintenance of communal WWTP is very important. Active community participation can increase awareness of sanitation, improve environmental management, and support the sustainability of the WWTP system.

Abstract

Health Information System (HIS) is one of the strategic components in national health development because it provides accurate data and information to support the management process, decision-making, and evaluation of health programs. This study aims to identify challenges, principles, and strategies for strengthening HIS in Indonesia. The method used is a qualitative descriptive approach through a literature study of government policies, regulations, and scientific literature related to HIS. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of HIS still faces various obstacles, such as a fragmented system, limited technological infrastructure, low human resource capacity, and a suboptimal data use culture. In addition, strategic issues also include weak legal basis, inter-institutional coordination, and lack of support in terms of funding and capacity development. To overcome these problems, strengthening HIS must be carried out through the use of information and communication technology (ICT), system integration, data standardization, and active involvement of the central and regional governments in system governance. The preparation of a roadmap for strengthening HIS is a concrete step to encourage work efficiency, transparency, and the availability of reliable information in supporting health development in Indonesia.

Abstract

Communicable and non-communicable diseases are two major challenges in global and national health systems, including in Indonesia. Communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV/AIDS are still the main causes of morbidity and mortality, while non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes mellitus have increased significantly along with changes in lifestyle and epidemiological transition. This article is a literature review that aims to describe prevention and control strategies for both groups of diseases based on scientific sources and official reports. The results of the study indicate that surveillance-based approaches, public education, health promotion, and multidisciplinary interventions are key to overcoming these health problems. Therefore, strengthening preventive and promotive policies must be a priority in the Indonesian health system to reduce the burden of disease in the future.

Abstract

Public health is influenced by various interrelated social factors. The social science approach to public health views disease not solely as a disease agent, but also as an imbalance between the host, the environment, and the agent itself. This article discusses various social science theories, such as John Gordon's epidemiological theory, Blum's theory, Maslow's behavioral theory, the Health Belief Model, and Lawrence Green's theory, which explain the factors shaping health behavior. In addition, sociological, anthropological, and demographic approaches are also discussed as a foundation for understanding the dynamics of public health. Qualitative and quantitative methods in the social sciences are explained as tools for analyzing health phenomena. This knowledge is essential for designing appropriate health programs, oriented towards the behavior, culture, and social conditions of the community.
