Abstract

This study investigates the economic and social impacts of remittances on households of retired Indonesian migrant workers in Nguling and Gondangwetan Districts in 2024. Specifically, it examines: (1) the relationship between remittance utilization and household consumption expenditures, (2) the relationship between remittance utilization and social changes within these families, and (3) the combined effect of remittance utilization and household consumption expenditures on social changes. Using a quantitative approach with a correlation design, the study involved a sample of 95 remittance managers from retired workers' families, selected through purposive area sampling. Data were analyzed via Simple and Multiple Linear Regression using SPSS version 20. The results show: (1) a moderate positive correlation (r = 0.503) between remittance utilization and household consumption, indicating that remittances account for 49.8% of household consumption expenditures; (2) a moderate relationship (r = 0.457) between remittance use and social changes, with remittances influencing 42.8% of these changes; and (3) a significant combined effect of remittance utilization and household consumption expenditures on social changes, as confirmed by an F-value (24.761) exceeding the critical F-table value (3.099). These findings underscore the pivotal role of remittances in shaping economic and social outcomes in the families of retired Indonesian migrant workers.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate character-based learning media using the Animaker application for grade VII students at Junior High School (SMP) of Natar. The development of engaging and effective learning media is essential for improving student engagement and understanding, particularly in subjects like social studies, where complex concepts such as Social Interaction can be difficult for students to grasp. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, following the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: research and data collection, product design, product development, product trials, and product revisions. The product developed is an animated video that integrates Social Interaction material with Islamic values, intended to support social studies education. The study’s evaluation process involved expert validation of the learning media and material. The media validation received a score of 90%, and the material validation achieved a perfect score of 100%, both categorized as "Very Strong." In addition, a student trial was conducted with 31 grade VII students, who showed positive responses and high engagement with the learning media. The effectiveness of the media was further confirmed through pre- and post-test assessments, demonstrating improved student understanding of the material. The results indicate that the Animaker-based learning media is valid, practical, and effective for enhancing student engagement and comprehension of social studies topics. This study contributes to the development of innovative educational tools that integrate multimedia to support active learning in the classroom.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of Macromedia Flash and image-based media on enhancing critical thinking skills among Grade 10 students in Geography at Senior High School 1 Seputih Mataram, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest measures was used to compare two groups: an experimental group taught using Macromedia Flash and a control group taught with static image-based media. The assessment focused on five critical thinking dimensions: analysis, synthesis, problem-solving, evaluation, and inference. The results indicated significant improvements in the experimental group, particularly in analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and evaluation. Independent samples t-tests revealed that the Macromedia Flash group outperformed the image media group in all dimensions of critical thinking. These findings support the hypothesis that interactive multimedia fosters greater cognitive engagement and critical thinking, suggesting that Macromedia Flash is a valuable tool for promoting higher-order thinking in social science education. The study contributes to the growing body of literature on multimedia learning and underscores the potential of technology-integrated pedagogy in enhancing critical thinking at the secondary education level.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Make a Match cooperative learning model in enhancing social studies achievement among seventh-grade students, while considering student motivation as a moderating variable. Employing a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group, the study involved 84 students from Al-Azhar 3 Junior High School in Bandar Lampung, Indonesia, who were divided into experimental and control groups using cluster random sampling. Data were collected through a validated achievement test and a motivation questionnaire, then analyzed using ANOVA and independent samples t-tests. The findings indicate that the Make a Match model significantly improves student learning outcomes compared to traditional methods, particularly for students with high motivation. Conversely, students with low motivation benefited more from the Jigsaw model, highlighting a critical interaction effect between instructional strategy and learner characteristics. These results underscore the importance of aligning pedagogical approaches with students’ motivational profiles to optimize academic achievement. The study contributes to the literature on differentiated instruction and cooperative learning by emphasizing the nuanced interplay between teaching methods and student motivation.

Abstract

This study aimed to design and develop Flash-based learning media to enhance student engagement in sociology education at SMK Negeri 4 Bandar Lampung. The media was developed using the Cooperative Learning model, and its effectiveness was evaluated through expert assessments and field trials, following the Borg and Gall development steps. The results showed that the Flash-based media significantly increased student interest in learning compared to traditional PowerPoint presentations. The multimedia tool, integrating visual, auditory, and interactive elements, helped students better understand abstract sociological concepts. The findings indicate that Flash-based learning media is a promising tool for improving student motivation and learning outcomes in vocational high school settings. The study contributes to the growing body of research on multimedia applications in social science education and emphasizes the importance of integrating digital tools in classroom teaching to foster engagement and enhance learning experiences. The study’s limitations include a small sample size and the focus on short-term engagement. Future research should examine the long-term impact of such media on academic performance and explore its broader applicability across different educational contexts.
