Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the limited ability of Indonesian language teachers in secondary schools in Ambon City to produce publishable scientific works. The aim of this program is to strengthen teachers’ academic literacy through structured, contextual, and sustainable training and mentoring in scientific writing. The method employed was Participatory Action Training (PAT), engaging teachers actively in needs analysis, intensive workshops, and post-training mentoring. The results indicated a significant improvement in teachers’ academic writing skills, digital reference management, and the establishment of an interschool teacher writing community. A total of 35 teachers completed their manuscripts, and 12 were recommended for publication in national journals. This activity successfully fostered a culture of academic writing and collaboration between schools and universities in island regions. The implication highlights that sustained mentoring and contextual approaches are effective strategies to enhance teacher professionalism and build a sustainable academic literacy ecosystem in areas with limited access to educational resources.

Abstract

This community service initiative stems from the need to implement an Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) as a foundation for educational quality improvement, particularly in island regions such as Ambon with limited resources and supervision access. The program aimed to enhance teachers’ and principals’ capacities in understanding, applying, and developing the PPEPP cycle (Establishment, Implementation, Evaluation, Control, and Improvement) independently and sustainably. The activity was conducted in five public junior high schools over six months, involving 45 participants comprising teachers and principals. The method involved participatory training, technical mentoring, and collaborative evaluation between universities, schools, and local government. Results indicated significant improvement in quality management competence and the establishment of a strong quality culture. This activity developed an adaptive mentoring model grounded in local collaboration, effective for island-based schools. The recommendation emphasizes continuous mentoring policy and integration of digital-based quality systems

Abstract

This community service activity was conducted in Taniwel District, West Seram Regency, over four days involving 45 young participants from several villages. It aimed to address the challenges of low cultural and digital literacy that threaten the continuity of local cultural heritage. Using a Participatory Action Learning approach, the program strengthened youth capacity to integrate cultural values with digital competencies through a participatory and collaborative learning process. The community, traditional leaders, and educational institutions were actively engaged throughout the stages to ensure the integration of cultural values and technology. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ ability to document, edit, and publish cultural content digitally, alongside increased awareness of preserving their cultural identity. This program produced a culture-based empowerment model adaptive to technological advancement, empowering youth as active agents in cultural preservation through digital media. The implications highlight the necessity of policy support and digital infrastructure development to sustain community-based cultural preservation initiatives.
