Abstract

The millennial generation, also known as generations Y and Z, is a group that is highly taken into account in modern political contestation. This generation is believed to be able to determine the outcome of a general election because they are in the majority. However, the potential for the millennial generation not to want to be involved in politics, let alone vote in elections, is also large. This is because they have high exposure to information technology, but do not have adequate political literacy. As a result, they do not have an ideological political culture, which is based on Pancasila, for the benefit of the nation and state. Thus, this generation's tendency to become apathetic is high. Through qualitative research methods, the author will discuss whether the millennial generation really has no interest in politics or can be said to be apathetic or whether they actually still have an ideological political culture. Data collection was carried out secondaryly through literature studies using books, scientific journals and online news sites.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the democratic crisis in Israel in 2023 through the case study of the judicial reform proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The research highlights how the reform became an instrument to strengthen executive power while weakening the Supreme Court, and how Netanyahu’s personal factors, including his corruption cases, influenced Israel’s domestic and foreign policies, particularly towards Palestine. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. The theory of Competitive Authoritarianism is used to explain Netanyahu’s consolidation of power within a formal democratic framework, while Operational Code theory is applied to trace Netanyahu’s philosophical and instrumental beliefs that emphasize military power over diplomacy. The findings reveal that the judicial reform represents Netanyahu’s authoritarian character as a strong man who seeks to undermine the judiciary for political and personal interests. This democratic crisis has led to polarization within Israeli society, intensified domestic conflicts, and increasingly aggressive foreign policies toward Palestine, especially after the October 7, 2023 attacks. Furthermore, the reform triggered international criticism and worsened Israel’s reputation as a democratic state in the eyes of the global community.

Abstract

Since the mid-2010s, Indonesia has implemented a strict prohibition on the importation of second-hand clothing with the stated objectives of protecting domestic industries, safeguarding public health, and ensuring trade compliance. The aim of this study is to investigate the persistence of urban thrift markets in Makassar despite this prohibition and to examine the dynamics that shape the policy practice gap. Adopting a qualitative research design, the study draws on semi structured interviews, direct observations, and documentary analysis involving municipal officials, traders, and consumers. The findings reveal that enforcement at the local level is undermined by limited institutional capacity, corruption, and socioeconomic pressures. Despite repeated enforcement actions, informal thrift markets demonstrate structural adaptability, strong community networks, and rational strategies that sustain operations. Consumers are driven by affordability, cultural identity, and sustainability values, while traders rely on rational cost benefit calculations and social legitimacy to mitigate risks. These insights highlight that prohibition alone cannot dismantle practices deeply rooted in economic necessity and cultural consumption. The study contributes to urban political economy scholarship by integrating policy implementation theory with rational choice analysis to explain why regulatory outcomes diverge from intentions. The findings imply that effective governance of informal markets requires adaptive strategies that combine regulation, empowerment, and social protection, rather than coercive prohibition.

Abstract

Border management is a state effort in managing, maintaining and optimizing all natural resources and human resources within the territory of the border area. Indonesia is a country that has direct borders with Southeast Asia countries such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Timor Leste and Singapore and Papua New Guinea . Border areas which are part of a country's backyard have a tendency to create potential threats from cross-border crimes or what we often call transnational crimes. Border management is a very important function in dealing with threats or issues of transnational crime throughout Indonesia's border areas on land borders, as well as waters, both rivers and seas/maritimes. The purpose of this study is to explore the challenges and border management strategies that Indonesia has implemented in dealing with the issue of the threat of transnational crime in areas directly bordering countries in Southeast Asia and Papua New Guinea. The method used in this study is a qualitative method using a triangulation method approach. The data collection method used is literature study. The research analysis technique uses an interactive model. The expected result in this study is to analyze the challenges and strategy of Indonesia in maintaining border management in order to deal with transnational crime issues that arise in the entire Indonesian border region.

Abstract

The role of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in influencing Indonesia's foreign policy on the Palestinian issue. The background of this research is based on the importance of the Palestinian issue for Indonesia, which has consistently supported Palestinian independence. The purpose of this research is to analyze how the OIC influences the formulation and implementation of Indonesia's foreign policy regarding Palestine, as well as to identify the mechanisms and strategies used. The research method used is a literature study, collecting and analyzing various sources such as scientific journals, books, organizational reports, and policy documents. The main findings show that the OIC provides an important platform for Indonesia to voice its support for Palestine, coordinate policies with other member countries, and provide humanitarian assistance. This study also found that Indonesia's membership and activities in the OIC contribute to increasing international support for Palestine and influence the direction of Indonesia's foreign policy on this issue. The study concludes that the OIC plays a crucial role in facilitating and strengthening Indonesia's commitment to the Palestinian struggle, and recommends increased coordination and effectiveness in OIC diplomacy to support a two-state solution.

Abstract

Paradiplomacy is a form of foreign cooperation implemented by sub-state entities or local governments, whether provincial, district, or city. This form of paradiplomacy cooperation takes the form of sister cities, which aim to promote cooperation, cultural exchange, trade, and student exchanges, oriented towards specific regional objectives. In 2023, the City of Yogyakarta, through the Minister Counselor for Political Functions of the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Dhaka, initiated a recommendation for Yogyakarta to establish a sister-city relationship with Kathmandu, Nepal, focusing on arts, culture, and tourism. However, as of this writing, there has been no concrete implementation of this cooperation initiative. This will then become the focus of this research, namely analyzing the factors that contributed to the failure of the sister city implementation between the City of Yogyakarta and Kathmandu in 2023 through the implementation gap theory. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with literature studies as the primary data source, and interviews with the Yogyakarta City Cultural Office as supporting data. The research findings indicate a weak commitment between the cooperation initiative and its implementation between the central and regional governments. Coordination between government sub-actors is one of the main factors contributing to the failure of the cooperation.

Abstract

Illegal logging constitutes one of the most pressing global environmental challenges, with severe consequences for ecosystem integrity and accelerating climate change. Indonesia, endowed with one of the world’s largest tropical forest estates, confronts substantial governance challenges in suppressing this illicit practice. This study investigates the roles of the Indonesian government and the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) in addressing illegal logging, employing Green Politics theory to assess the ecological sustainability orientation of Indonesia’s forest policies and Global Governance theory to evaluate UNFF’s contribution as a multilateral actor in shaping international forestry norms. The findings reveal that, despite the implementation of significant policy instruments—including the forest concession moratorium (Presidential Instruction No. 10/2011) and the Timber Legality Verification System (SVLK)—their effectiveness remains circumscribed by persistent weaknesses in law enforcement, entrenched corruption, and competing economic interests. Concurrently, UNFF contributes a global normative framework through its Non-Legally Binding Instrument (NLBI) on Sustainable Forest Management, facilitating international cooperation and technical assistance, including satellite-based forest monitoring technology transfers to Indonesia. However, the non-binding nature of UNFF’s instruments constitutes a structural limitation, reducing its capacity to compel meaningful behavioral change among member states. This study underscores the imperative of strengthened multi-stakeholder collaboration—encompassing governments, international organizations, and local communities—to overcome these governance deficits and advance effective, sustainable forest management.

Abstract

This research analyses the effectiveness of gastronomy as a soft power instrument in strengthening the nation branding of countries in the Americas. By focusing the study on the successes of Mexico and Peru, this research evaluates how the integration of culinary heritage into foreign policy is capable of generating measurable diplomatic influence and economic benefits. Using a descriptive qualitative method based on secondary data from UNESCO reports and the World Travel Awards, the results indicate that the designation of traditional cuisine as world cultural heritage has triggered a significant surge in the international tourism sector and food commodity exports. This study concludes that a consistent gastrodiplomacy strategy not only reinforces regional cultural identity but also functions as an effective creative economy engine in enhancing a country's geopolitical bargaining power on the global stage.

Abstract

This article examines how China's Dual Circulation Strategy reshapes China–Germany economic cooperation in the manufacturing sector. Using a qualitative case study of bilateral manufacturing relations after 2020, it analyses how China's state-capitalist industrial strategy affects German manufacturing through changes in trade patterns, investment localization, industrial competition, supply-chain dependence, and state-business relations. The article argues that Dual Circulation should not be read as economic isolation or direct decoupling. It is better understood as a state-led effort to strengthen domestic demand, technological self-reliance, and industrial capacity while preserving external circulation where it supports China's upgrading. For German manufacturers, Dual Circulation produces a more selective and contested form of interdependence. China remains an important market, production base, and supply-chain node, while also becoming a stronger competitor in automobiles, batteries, machinery, chemicals, and advanced industrial technologies.
