Abstract

Muhammad Yusuf al-Makasari (1627-1699) was one of the Muslim thinkers Nusantara (Indonesian) who lived around the leading 17th century. The other two are Nuruddin ar-Raniri (d. 1658) and as-Singkili Abdurrauf (1615-1693) derived from the Sultanate of Aceh .Yusuf al-Makasari has devoted his life to the propagation of Islam. He has focused his attention on the study of various fields, especially with respect to kalam (theology), tasawwuf (Sufism), and the shari'ah (Islamic law) and write no less than 23 books in Arabic.Matalib al-Salikin (MS) is one of the interesting work of Yusuf al-Makasari. Arable field which he wrestled in this book is tasawwuf, with the main thesis of the separation between tawhid impossible (oneness of God) , ma'rifah (divine knowledge), and worship (Rite). He maintains the view that if someone lost one of the elements of the integral, then it has fallen on an idolatrous attitude.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v3i2.810

Abstract

Almost all governments in the world, including authoritarian, claiming that their political system is democratic. However, not all governments in the Muslim world accept this system. Among the 'ulama and Muslim intellectuals themselves there are differences of opinion about the system and the concept of democracy. In general, the modernist Muslim groups accept this system, because he was judged to be compatible with Islam, while Muslim groups "fundamentalist" and mostly conservative Muslims reject this system, because it supposedly excludes the sovereignty of God.The problem that often arises is how to implement human rights in Islamic societies. Then in 1990 the Muslim countries which are members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) issued a "Cairo Declaration of Human Rights in Islam" , after over 13 years of discussing this issue among its members. Thus, there are two declarations for the people of Islam, namely: Cairo Declaration on the top and the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights".DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v3i1.812

Abstract

This article discusses the various reactions and attitudes towards Darul Arqam in Southeast Asia, especially in mid-1994, when Darl Arqam became the object of heated debate between institutions and leaders who support the crackdown on Darul Arqam and who reject the action throughout the region. Within this context, the authors analyze the different establishments of various governments, religious organizations, other agencies and the general population in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore. The results of this analysis is not limited to the Darul Arqam issue alone, but showed various common traits of Islam in a number of regions and countries in Southeast Asia.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v3i1.813

Abstract

Problems of inter-religious dialogue is one of the important discourse in the development of religious thought in modern Indonesia. One of the leading Muslim intellectuals seoran put a great interest in the discourse of religious thought is Prof. HA Mukti Ali, former Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, which has served as Rector of IAIN Yogyakarta.In the view of many people, known as Mukti Ali Muslim leaders who have diverse Islamic thought. He, set in the traditional students and the cast of revivalist organization, Muhammadiyah is the pioneer of Comparative Studies of Religion in Indonesia. He is also known as the man who chose the problem of inter-religious dialogue in Indonesia as 'immortal work' throughout his life. Abstract

The emergence of such great 'ulama' in the Sultanate of Aceh, north of Sumatra, as Hamzah Fansuri (Hamzah al-Fansuri), Syamsuddin Sumatrani (Shams al-Din al-Sumatrani), Nuruddin Arraniri (Nur al-Din al-Raniri) and Abdurrauf Singkel ('Abd al-Rauf al-Sinkili) could lead one to pose an important questions. Why they emerged in the Sultanate of Aceh and not in other part of Nusantara. Abstract

Pilgrimage in ritual practice is not only valuable but also political, economic, and pedagogical. That's because the Hajj is itself a grand conference attended by millions of people from various parts of the world with a background in economics, politics, social and cultural diversity. This grand congress often used for political interests by Muslim rulers so that this opportunity is most practical political forum to influence, shape and spread of certain patterns of thought to various other parts of the Muslim world. In the 18th century, every year thousands of pilgrims go to Mecca and came home with orthodox Islam which gradually able to shift mistisismedan syncretism previously more prominent in the history of Islamic thought in Indonesia as seen Kalisalak Rifa'i Ahmad (1786-1875). Abstract

This article is a review of the book Politics in Indonesia : Democracy , Islam and the Ideology of Tolerance written by Douglas E. Ramage . This book is the result of research that lasted from 1990-1994 , a period characterized much political debate and move groups of Indonesia, including from Islamic groups . The problem is studied from this book is a discourse about Pancasila as interpreted by these groups with all the implications of the widespread national problem .According to Ramage , initially it looked Pancasila as an ideology that is not interesting , nothing more than a tool of legitimacy of the New Order power elite . But after carefully considered , as it turns out wrong impression . Pancasila has turned out to be an interesting and important discourse studied . Pancasila turned out to be above the interests of the power elite . He became a central discourse in Indonesian politics , involving a variety of groups and interests . Abstract

Democracy is actually a concept that is understood and practiced heterogeneous. However, there are basic elements or "family resemblence" of democracy: the process of elite recruitment and freely through open competition, and the existence of the right to vote on the basis of universal suffrage. Are these two elements can not be accepted and practiced in Islamic countries? The problem is very dependent on how Islam is understood. During this time of political observers tend to define Islam as a monolithic religion. Huntington and Fukuyama, for example, the view that Islam is essentially incompatible with democracy. Abstract

In the tradition of Western social sciences to grow a sense of " hard " about the secularization : the removal of religion from public life ; religion is only a private matter of each person ; he did not have a significant social role .The idea of ​​secularization or the desecration of the Muslim reformer Indonesia has made Islam is not synonymous with social groups - political . Islam has been freed from political conflicts to be accepted by the wider Muslim community . Categories gentry , students , and abangan , Clifford Geertz used to distinguish religious orientation among Javanese Muslims , is no longer relevant to use . Gentry and abangans now been merged into the religious culture of the students . Now taking place what is called a " santrinisasi " or " Islamization " in Indonesia . It takes place in Indonesian society is becoming increasingly modern , where the middle class is getting stronger . Islam has become the culture of the middle class . Modernity hand with Islam . In Indonesia , Islam can also accommodate the challenges of plurality , which is the other side of modernity .
