Abstract

Objective: The purpose of the present study is to examine the genomic composition of Ligilactobacillus salivarius SuAm7, emphasizing both its possible clinical significance and its function in oral health. Method: Gram-staining, 16S rRNA PCR and Whole-genome sequencing were used to identify and cultivate the saliva sample. Whole-genome sequencing with Illumina technology was done, followed by analysing the genome’s features and figuring out where it fits in the picture of evolution. Results: SuAm7’s genome was 1.84 Mb in total, smaller than most related species and it shared a lot of similarities with L. salivarius subsp. salicinius DSM 20554. Functional annotations indicate that genes for secondary metabolism, nitrogen usage, movement and chemotaxis were missing which suggests the mouth cavity is a place where the bacteria need to be specially adapted. The way the bacterium is classified was confirmed by genetic tests including ANI analysis and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization. Novelty: This article reports on the draught genome of Ligilactobacillus salivarius SuAm7, an oral bacterium from someone who was healthy in Iraq. The findings emphasise the value of L. salivarius SuAm7 in the oral microbiota and describe its genetic and how it functions. The study shows what types of bacteria are present in Iraqi people’s mouths and indicates that L. salivarius might be useful in fighting bad breath.

Abstract

Objective: This study explores the role of microorganisms isolated from the female reproductive tract during pregnancy and their potential impact on fetal development and pregnancy complications. Method: A descriptive, literature-based approach was employed to analyze microbial populations across various anatomical sites—vaginal, cervical, endometrial, tubal, and ovarian—focusing on their interactions with the maternal immune system and reproductive outcomes. Results: The findings reveal that microbial imbalance, particularly the reduction of Lactobacillus species, disrupts immune regulation and compromises epithelial integrity, leading to adverse outcomes such as premature labor, miscarriage, infections, and congenital abnormalities. Pathogens including Candida, Trichomonas, Cytomegalovirus, and Group B Streptococcus were identified as major contributors to these complications. Novelty: Unlike prior studies that often examine isolated reproductive sites, this research integrates microbiome data from both upper and lower reproductive tracts, offering a comprehensive view of organ-specific dysbiosis and its influence on maternal-fetal health. These insights suggest new directions for preventive strategies, targeted therapies, and the development of biomarkers aimed at restoring microbial equilibrium to safeguard pregnancy outcomes.

Abstract

Objective: This study seeks to identify tumor parameters that help detect the different stages of malignant tumors. Method: Blood samples were gathered from 43 females undergoing colonoscopies in hospitals across Mosul, and 18 individuals who were healthy. After colectomy for cancer, the malignant tumor samples were divided into three groups depending on the tumor stages and tested using the ELISA method, with comparison control groups. Results: The ratios such as L/M and P/L showed meaningful differences between stages, which provides differences in the immune system response of patients. In early-stage cancer, markers like Septin-9, HIF-1α, and cf-DNA showed significant differences by tumor stage in women in identifying colon cancer progression. Novelty: The diagnosis and development of colon cancer can be understood with the help of VCAM-1, Septin-9, HIF-1α, and cf-DNA.

Abstract

Objective: The current study was performed in the animal house at the Faculty of Science, University of Kufa, for the period from 2/1/2025 to 2/6/2025. Method: (36) laboratory rats (Rattus rattus) were used. The animals were divided into six groups as follows: The first group(G1): the control group treated only with the feed and water. The second group(G2): The infection group was injected with Diethylnitrosamine (DEN) and given for two weeks, then it was injected with Carbon tetrachloride (CCL4) for six weeks to induce cancer. The third group(G3): treated with alcoholic extract of Camellia sinensis leaves at a concentration of 10 mg/kg for two months. The fourth group(G4): treated with alcoholic extract of C.sinensis leaves at a concentration of 20 mg/kg for two months. The fifth group(G5): treated with alcoholic extract of C.sinensis leaves at a concentration of 10 mg/kg for two weeks, after which the mixture of DEN + CCL4 was given until the end of the experiment. The sixth group(G6): treated with alcoholic extract of C.sinensis leaves at a concentration of 20 mg/kg for two weeks, after which the mixture of DEN + CCL4 was given until the end of the experiment. The treatment continues for two months, after which the animals are dissected, the organs are extracted and preserved in sand for making after completing histological sections, they are studied, the histological changes were read using light microscopy. Results: The histological study in the groups treated with alcoholic extract of C.sinensis leaves showed no histological changes in spleen tissue compared with the second group treated with the substances (DEN and CCL4). The results of the histological study also showed the protective role in the groups were treated with alcoholic extract of C. sinensis leaves were then treated with substances that cause cancer in the spleen, it showed no histological changes or evidence of the presence of cancer cells. Novelty: The results of the current study demonstrate the protective role of alcoholic extract of C. sinensis leaves in preventing histopathological changes in spleen.

Abstract

Objective: This article studies the age- and gender-dependent morphological characteristics of the facial area and facial index in children of primary school age. Method: The study involved analyzing morphological characteristics with attention to age and sex variables in primary school children. Result: The results showed that certain changes in facial morphology are observed with age, as well as some statistically significant differences between the sexes. Novelty: These data are of great importance in pediatrics, pediatric dentistry, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and in the determination of anatomical features.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to show some of the commensal species in the parts of the digestive system and their role in developing the immune system and other functions and their positive effect on the health of the host. Method: Molecular investigations have shown the presence of single, if not dozens of trillions of species, nutrients, and host cells. Results: The commensal bacteria in the digestive system play an important role in modifying and developing the immune system, as they provide environmental requirements of nutrients that protect the mucosal lining of the intestine, which in turn is affected by mutual interactions with the microbes of the digestive system. Novelty: Thus, the digestive system is considered one of the most complex systems due to the continuous interaction between the enormous number of microorganisms.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to analyze triglyceride levels among e-cigarette users at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo. Method: A total of 32 male students who used e-cigarettes participated, and 3 cc of venous blood was drawn after at least 10 hours of fasting. Triglyceride levels were measured using a DIALAB Autolyzer with the enzymatic colorimetric method (GPO-PAP) and analyzed using the Independent t-test with SPSS 23.0. Results: The results showed an average triglyceride level of 86.75 mg/dl (range 63–125 mg/dl), which is within the normal category (<150 mg/dl). The hypothesis test showed p = 0.146 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant difference in triglyceride levels among e-cigarette users. Novelty: This study provides valuable insights into the triglyceride levels of e-cigarette users, contributing to the understanding of the potential impact of e-cigarette use on lipid profiles.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to detect Epstein–Barr virus antigens using the ELISA technique and to evaluate the immune status by measuring the levels of inflammatory cytokines, namely Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) and Interleukin-10 (IL-10). Method: This study was conducted on 150 patients previously diagnosed with major β-thalassemia by physicians at the hospital. Special kits were used to detect viral antigens, in addition to other kits used for measuring cytokine levels. Statistical analysis was also performed to evaluate the cytokine data. Results: The virus was detected in 82% of the total number of patients. The highest rate was recorded in patients aged between 11-20 years and females showed a higher infection rate compared to males. Regarding cytokines, there was a statistically significant increase in the levels of Interleukin-10 and Tumor Necrosis Factor in patients compared to the control group, p-values of 0.0048 and 0.0035, respectively. Novelty: The results revealed the presence of immune regulatory dysfunction in this group of patients, as they exhibited signs of both immune activation and suppression simultaneously. This underscores the importance of continuous immunological monitoring for this category of patients.

Abstract

Objective: This work includes novel formazan compounds containing 5-diazenyl-2-hydroxybenzoic acid with different Schiff bases. SB1 ( N-(6-methoxybenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-1-(4-(pyridin-2-yl)phenyl)methanimine), SB2 ( dimethylene(4-((4-(pyridin-2-yl)benzylidene)amino)phenyl)-l6-sulfanamine), SB3 4-(((4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)imino)methyl)-N,N-dimethylaniline) and SB4 ( 4-(((4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)imino)methyl)benzene-1,3-diol) leads to formation F1 ( 2-hydroxy-5-((((6-methoxybenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)imino)(4-(pyridin-2-yl)phenyl)methyl)diazenyl)benzoic acid), F2 ( 5-((((4-(aminodimethylene-l6-sulfaneyl)phenyl)imino)(4-(pyridin-2-yl)phenyl)methyl)diazenyl)-2-hydroxybenzoic acid), F3 (5-(((4-(dimethylamino)phenyl)((4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)imino)methyl)diazenyl)-2-hydroxybenzoic acid) and F4 ( 5-(((2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)((4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)imino)methyl)diazenyl)-2-hydroxybenzoic acid) in order. Method: They have been synthesized by the addition reaction of the diazonium salts of 5-diazenyl-2-hydroxybenzoic acid with Schiff bases, and they were designed, synthesized, and confirmed by elemental analyses, FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectral data. It noticed the molecular docking results for the interaction of the tested ligands (F1, F2, F3, F4) with the 1T49 protein (PTP1B) reveal several important insights regarding their binding affinities, stability of poses, and interaction profiles within the active site of the enzyme. Results: This suggests that F1 is the best candidate for further development as a potential PTP1B inhibitor, especially in relation to treatment for the breast cancer. All these results are consistent with what this work has reached when conducting an anti-cancer test. This work has investigated the cytotoxic potential of F1 against cell line MCF-7 (breast cancer). Results showed that the compound exhibited significant cytotoxicity toward MCF-7 cells, with an IC₅₀ of 147.6 µg/mL. These findings suggest a selective antiproliferative effect of the compound on cancerous cells compared to normal cells, highlighting its potential as a promising candidate for further anticancer drug development targeting breast cancer. Novelty: This work includes novel formazan compounds containing 5-diazenyl-2-hydroxybenzoic acid with different Schiff bases.
