Abstract

Zingiber officinale Var. Amarum (commonly known as jahe emprit) is a local ginger variety recognized for its richness in bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, phenolics, tannins, saponins, and terpenoids, which are widely reported to possess antioxidant properties and the ability to absorb ultraviolet (UV) radiation. These characteristics highlight its potential as a natural source of photoprotective agents. The present study was conducted to evaluate the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of ginger rhizome distillation waste and to perform phytochemical screening in order to identify its secondary metabolite content. Distillation was performed on 250 grams of fresh ginger rhizomes using a solvent ratio of 1:2 (b/v). The process yielded 130 mL of liquid waste with a 52% recovery rate and retained the distinctive aromatic profile of ginger. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of flavonoids, phenolics, saponins, and phytosterols, while alkaloids were detected only in trace amounts, suggesting the waste still contains valuable bioactive constituents despite undergoing distillation. Determination of SPF was carried out using the Mansur spectrophotometric method, which measures absorbance within the wavelength range of 290–320 nm at 5 nm intervals. The extract demonstrated an average SPF value of 39.29, which is categorized as ultra protection, indicating a very high level of photoprotective capacity. These results confirm that ginger rhizome distillation waste retains compounds with strong UV absorption and antioxidant potential, supporting its use as an active ingredient in sunscreen formulations. Beyond its functional efficacy, the utilization of this by-product also promotes sustainability by reducing waste from the essential oil industry and contributing to eco-friendly cosmetic innovation. In conclusion, the study provides scientific evidence that ginger distillation waste can be valorized into high-value products, offering both environmental and economic benefits while meeting the growing demand for natural and safe alternatives in skincare formulations.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between organizational participation intensity and positive psychological affect among sixth-semester students of the Public Health Study Program, FIKKIA, Universitas Airlangga. Employing a quantitative correlational design, the research involved 36 respondents selected through purposive sampling using Slovin’s formula with a 10% margin of error. The instruments consisted of an organizational activity scale adapted from previous studies and the Affect Balance Scale (ABS) to measure positive affect, both of which demonstrated validity (r > 0.30) and high reliability (α > 0.7). Data were analyzed using the biserial correlation test. The results indicated that most students fell into the moderate participation category (44%), followed by high (36%) and low (20%) categories. Positive affect was reflected in five statements, including interest in learning new things, feeling pleased when opinions are heard, and pride in contributing to others. Negative affect appeared in four statements, such as frustration when performance is poorly evaluated and anxiety when speaking in public. The correlation analysis yielded a Sig. two-tailed value of 0.802 (>0.05), indicating no significant relationship between organizational participation intensity and positive psychological affect. These findings suggest the potential influence of confounding variables, such as personality traits, gratitude, social support, or academic workload, affecting both variables. The study highlights the importance of considering these factors in designing organizational activities to foster students’ psychological well-being.

Abstract

The Hospital Management Information System (SIMRS) is an essential instrument in supporting data management and enhancing healthcare services more effectively. This system is designed to provide accurate, fast, and reliable information, thereby facilitating decision-making processes within hospital environments. The Radiology Department of Dr. R. Soetijono Regional General Hospital, Blora, has adopted a WebView-based SIMRS as part of its digital transformation efforts. The procedure begins with patient data management initiated by referring physicians. The data are then imported into the SIMRS, which is automatically connected to the radiology department, thereby simplifying the workflow of patient examination services. The objective of this study is to evaluate the benefits and effectiveness of using SIMRS Pilar compared to SIMRS WebView, particularly in the context of radiology services. This research employed a quantitative method using a questionnaire consisting of 30 items, which was distributed to 13 radiographers directly involved in service delivery through SIMRS. The findings indicate that SIMRS WebView significantly improves service efficiency. This is reflected in faster patient data entry and access, smoother integration between hospital units, and a reduction in errors and data redundancy. Validity testing of the research instrument showed that all items had correlation values above 0.444 with significance levels below 0.50, confirming their validity. In addition, respondents considered the new system more practical compared to the previous one, as it allows access through devices connected to the hospital’s internal network. Nevertheless, the study also identified several technical challenges, such as unstable network connectivity and the need for adaptation among users who were not yet fully familiar with web-based technology. Overall, the study concludes that the implementation of SIMRS WebView in the Radiology Department of Dr. R. Soetijono Regional General Hospital is effective and beneficial in improving service quality.

Abstract

Implant is one of the Long-Term Contraceptive Methods (LTCM) that still has relatively low popularity compared to other contraceptive methods. In Indonesia, the use of contraceptive implants remains limited. Data from the 2022 active family planning participants in Malang Regency showed that only 8.2% of acceptors used implants (BPS of East Java Province, 2022). The low coverage may be influenced by various factors, one of which is people’s perception of implants. Perception plays an important role in the process of choosing contraception. Individuals who are able to perceive themselves well tend to have greater self-awareness in selecting a contraceptive method that suits their needs (Windarti, 2020). This phenomenon can be analyzed through the Health Belief Model (HBM), which emphasizes the importance of perception factors such as susceptibility, severity, benefits, and barriers in health-related decision-making, including contraceptive use. This study aims to analyze the differences in perceptions regarding implant contraception based on the Health Belief Model. The research employed a comparative design with a sample of 72 respondents, consisting of 32 implant acceptors and 40 non-implant acceptors, selected using the Proportionate Cluster Random Sampling technique. The research instrument was a structured questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results indicated a significant difference in perception of implant use between implant and non-implant acceptors, with a p-value of 0.027 (<0.05). The most meaningful differences were observed in the perceptions of susceptibility and severity. Implant acceptors tended to have a more positive perception of implant contraception, whereas non-implant acceptors were more likely to hold negative perceptions. An individual’s perception becomes positive when it aligns with their needs and, conversely, becomes negative when it conflicts with perceived needs. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening education and counseling on implant contraception to improve community perceptions, thereby encouraging greater use of implants as an effective long-term contraceptive choice.

Abstract

In Malang City, breast cancer is recorded as the second most common cancer in East Java. Based on data from 2021–2022, the number of breast cancer cases in Malang increased to 29 cases. This indicates that breast cancer remains a serious public health problem requiring special attention, particularly in terms of prevention and early detection. One of the simplest early detection efforts that can be carried out independently is breast self-examination (BSE). However, the practice of BSE among adolescent girls is strongly influenced by their level of knowledge regarding breast cancer. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge about breast cancer and breast self-examination behavior among adolescent girls at MA Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. This research employed an analytical correlation method with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 85 students, with a sample of 46 students selected through proportional random sampling. The research instruments included a breast cancer knowledge questionnaire and a BSE behavior questionnaire that had been tested for validity. The results showed that the level of knowledge among adolescent girls at MA Muhammadiyah 1 Malang was mostly in the moderate category. Similarly, their BSE behavior was also predominantly in the moderate category. Data analysis using the Chi-Square statistical test revealed a significant relationship between knowledge about breast cancer and breast self-examination behavior, as indicated by a p-value = 0.022 (<0.05), which means the research hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, the findings suggest that better knowledge of breast cancer is associated with better BSE behavior among adolescent girls. Therefore, continuous efforts in the form of communication, information, and education (CIE) on early detection of breast cancer are necessary. Improved knowledge is expected to raise awareness and encourage adolescent girls to routinely perform BSE as a preventive measure against breast cancer

Abstract

Revisit intention is the tendency of a patient to return to the same healthcare facility after receiving prior services. Based on a preliminary study of ten Out of Pocket patients at RS Islam Jakarta Pondok Kopi, 60% showed low revisit intention. This study aims to determine the relationship between service quality and revisit intention among Out of Pocket patients in the outpatient unit. The research used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all Out of Pocket patients from January to April 2025, with a total of 9,664 patients. The sample size was 65 respondents, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires measuring revisit intention (Behavioral Intention model) and service quality (SERVQUAL dimensions). Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that 50.8% of respondents had low revisit intention. The highest dissatisfaction was in the tangibles dimension (60%), while the reliability (56.9%), responsiveness (53.8%), assurance (61.5%), and empathy (63.1%) dimensions were mostly rated as satisfactory. Bivariate analysis revealed significant relationships between revisit intention and all service quality dimensions: tangibles (p < 0.001), reliability (p < 0.001), responsiveness (p < 0.001), assurance (p 0.003), and empathy (p 0.006). Therefore, improvements in all five dimensions of service quality are essential to increase Out of Pocket patients’ revisit intention.
