Abstract

Differential Parental Treatment (DPT) refers to variations in how parents treat their children, a common family dynamic that can significantly influence children’s psychosocial development and the quality of sibling relationships. In Indonesian families, this phenomenon is shaped by cultural influences such as age hierarchy, gender roles, and family norms, which affect how parents distribute attention, discipline, and educational support. Using a quantitative correlational design, this study examined the extent of DPT and its associations with children’s self-esteem, anxiety levels, academic learning, and sibling relationships among 30 families in Malang. The results show that many children perceived moderate to high levels of unequal treatment, which were linked to increased sibling conflict and higher anxiety. Additionally, discrepancies were found between children’s and parents’ perceptions, particularly regarding the intensity of differential treatment and sibling conflict, highlighting the importance of fair, consistent, and communicative parenting practices to promote healthier sibling relationships and support children’s psychosocial well-being.   Keywords : differential parental treatment, parenting, child psychosocial development, sibling conflict

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the parenting practices of mothers working as healthcare professionals in promoting healthy lifestyles and family consumption patterns in the modern era. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving one family in which the mother is a healthcare worker. The study focuses on the mother’s role as a health agent in daily family life, particularly in regulating dietary habits, physical activity, and stress management. The findings indicate that the parenting style applied is adaptive and participatory, characterized by role modeling of healthy behaviors, open communication, and flexible rule-setting. The mother acts as a facilitator who encourages active involvement of family members in maintaining health, despite time constraints resulting from her dual roles. The implementation of a healthy lifestyle is reflected in regular light physical activities, regulated eating and sleeping patterns, and family-based stress management practices. These findings suggest that mothers who are healthcare professionals play a significant role in fostering physical and mental health balance within the family.

Abstract

The increasing number of divorce cases filed by women in recent years has become a complex social reality and challenges the construction of family resilience in Indonesia. These divorce cases do not merely reflect a weakening of marital commitment but also demonstrate women's growing awareness of their rights, dignity, and justice in domestic relationships. In this context, the PUSAKA SAKINAH Program, a strategic government effort to strengthen family resilience, faces the challenge of responding to increasingly equal gender relations. This study aims to analyze the challenges of implementing PUSAKA SAKINAH in addressing the phenomenon of divorce cases filed by women from a gender equality perspective. A qualitative approach was used through literature studies, policy analysis, and a review of relevant divorce data. The study results indicate that divorce cases filed by women are generally triggered by unequal power relations, domestic violence, economic injustice, and weak communication and fulfillment of rights within the family. A gender equality perspective positions this phenomenon not as a threat to the value of a harmonious family, but rather as a reflection of the need to reconstruct just, equal, and civilized marital relations. Therefore, PUSAKA SAKINAH needs to be developed adaptively by integrating the principles of gender equality, protecting women's rights, and strengthening the capacity of married couples to build relationships of mutual respect. Strengthening the educational and preventive dimensions of PUSAKA SAKINAH is expected to reduce the divorce rate and create harmonious, gender-equitable and sustainable families.

Abstract

The emergence of male beauty influencers challenges the gender binary that has traditionally associated beauty practices exclusively with femininity. In Indonesia, the circulation of the hashtag #MakeupIsGenderless has opened up space for men to showcase their makeup practices in the digital public sphere. This article aims to analyze whether the participation of male beauty influencers represents a form of gender empowerment or a rearticulation of hegemonic masculinity in digital culture. This research uses a qualitative approach through content analysis of the Instagram accounts of several Indonesian male beauty influencers. Using the concepts of hegemonic masculinity from Raewyn Connell and symbolic domination from Pierre Bourdieu, this article argues that while this phenomenon appears to deconstruct the gender binary, it simultaneously has the potential to reproduce masculine privilege. Men can enter spaces traditionally constructed as feminine without experiencing the structural oppression historically imposed on women. Thus, #MakeupIsGenderless functions not only as a discourse of liberation but also as an arena for renegotiating gender power relations in contemporary digital capitalism.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the growth and thematic trends of research studies on postcolonial, indigenous, and sustainable development in Indonesia. The study used a bibliometric and material analysis approach using data obtained from the Scopus database. An in-depth examination was conducted on publications between 1992 and 2025. The research study used Title-Abs-Key (postcolonial AND Indonesia), and out of 370 articles accessed through a Bibliometric database, 100 articles were critically analysed. Study identified patterns in educational institutions, distribution of scientific disciplines within articles produced, and how productive scholars are in publishing articles related to postcolonial, indigenous knowledge and sustainable human development. The study also aimed at exploring various topics conducted by researchers, efforts to strengthen postcolonial, indigenous knowledge, and sustainable development. In addition, the research study examined the advancements in postcolonial perspectives, indigenous knowledge, and sustainable human development in Indonesia. The results contribute to understanding the strengths and weaknesses of these areas and their implications for the country. The findings will enable policy-makers to forge collaboration with educational institutions in developing educational policies and promote collaboration between Indonesia scholars and international scholars. Publication trend indicates that postcolonial research within educational institutions in Indonesia would double.
