Abstract

This study aims to describe the problem-solving process for composition and inverse functions using Polya's stages, based on the mathematical abilities of students at SMA Negeri 1 Pamona Utara. The results show differences in problem-solving approaches according to students' mathematical proficiency. (1) Students with high mathematical ability can accurately identify given and required information, assess the sufficiency of the available data, and understand the relationships between different pieces of information. They can also determine additional necessary information, utilize all essential data, and systematically plan their problem-solving process. Moreover, they are skilled in answering accurately and verifying their solutions by identifying errors. (2) Students with moderate mathematical ability exhibit similar skills in understanding problems and planning solutions. However, in inverse function problems, they struggle to apply systematic steps and are less precise in their answers. (3) Students with low mathematical ability can identify given information and its connections but are unable to develop an effective problem-solving strategy. They still face difficulties in structuring systematic steps to arrive at the correct solution.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the errors made by students in solving Linear Equation One Variable (PLSV) story problems in class VIII students of SMP Negeri 5 Palu, using Newman's theory. Newman's theory consists of five stages which include reading errors, understanding errors, transformation errors, process skill errors, and errors in writing the final answer or notation. This research used qualitative method with descriptive approach. The data collection techniques were through written tests and interviews. The research subjects consisted of three students based on the level of mathematical ability, namely high mathematical ability, medium mathematical ability, and low mathematical ability seen from the report card scores of mathematics subjects in class VII even semester. The results showed that students with high mathematics ability made reading errors, transformation errors, process skill errors, and errors in writing the final answer or notation. The students with medium mathematics ability made reading errors, comprehension errors, transformation errors, process skill errors, and errors in writing the final answer or notation. Similarly, students with low mathematics ability made reading errors, comprehension errors, transformation errors, process skills errors, and errors in writing the final answer or notation. Errors that often occur at the reading error stage are misreading the symbols in the problem, transformation errors, namely changing the problem into mathematical form, process skill errors, namely errors in counting operations, and errors in writing the final answer or notation.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' mathematical problem-solving skills through the implementation of a cooperative learning model using the Power of Two method on the topic of linear equations and inequalities in one variable. The subjects of this study were 36 eighth-grade students from class VIII2 at SMP Negeri 11 Pekanbaru. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The instruments used in this study included instructional tools and a mathematical problem-solving ability test (KPMM). The instructional tools consisted of teaching modules, student worksheets (LKS), and formative tests. Data were collected through the KPMM tests and observation sheets documenting the activities of both students and the teacher. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive narrative and statistical techniques. The results of the study indicated that the implementation of the Power of Two method was effective in improving the quality of the learning process and enhancing students' mathematical problem-solving skills. In the first cycle, 2 students achieved scores in the "very good" category, 5 in the "good" category, and 4 in the "fair" category. In the second cycle, there was a significant improvement: 26 students achieved "very good" scores, 10 were in the "good" category, and none were categorized as "fair." This indicates that by the second cycle, students had become accustomed to using the cooperative learning model with the Power of Two method in solving mathematical problems. In conclusion, the implementation of the cooperative learning model using the Power of Two method has been proven to improve the learning process and enhance the mathematical problem-solving abilities of Phase D students in class VIII2 at SMP Negeri 11 Pekanbaru during the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year.

Abstract

This study aims to describe various problems in mathematics learning in schools. The method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR), with data collection carried out through the Publish or Perish and Google Scholar platforms. A total of 20 relevant journals from the period 2020 to 2025 were used as reference sources. The results of the study show that although mathematics has an important role in developing critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills, many students still find this subject difficult and confusing. Problems in mathematics learning are influenced by several main factors, namely: 1) student interest and motivation, 2) teaching methods applied, 3) support from the surrounding environment, and 4) the condition of available facilities and infrastructure. It is hoped that the results of this study can contribute to mathematics teachers in efforts to increase student interest and motivation in mathematics learning in schools.

The purpose of this study is to improve learning and improve mathematics learning outcomes by implementing the Problem Based Learning learning model. This research was conducted in two cycles and the subjects of the research were class VIIIC students of MTsN 3 Siak in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year totaling 27 students. The research focuses on student activities and student learning outcomes. Observation sheets and learning outcome tests were used as data collection methods. The results of this study indicate that the learning process has increased after the implementation of the PBL model. The percentage of students who achieved KKTP from the basic score to the summative test I and from the summative test I to the summative test II each increased, namely from 33.33% to 51.85% then 70.37%. From the data analysis, it was concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning model can improve the learning process and improve the mathematics learning outcomes of students who achieved KKTP in class VIIIC MTsN 3 Siak

Abstract

A This research is a development research (R&D) with the aim of producing a Problem Based Learning (PBL) based teaching module on the topic of social arithmetic to facilitate mathematical problem solving skills (KPMM) of phase D students that have met the valid and practical requirements. This development research uses a 4D development model with development stages, namely defining, designing, developing and disseminating. The data collection instruments used in this study were the teaching module validation sheet and the student response questionnaire. The assessment aspect on the validation sheet assessed by 3 validators, obtained an average value of the teaching module validation results of 3.90 with a very valid category. The results of the analysis of the student response questionnaire from a small group trial of 15 respondents obtained an average value of 3.60 which was categorized as very practical.
