Abstract

There are meanings, stories and philosophies of the life of the ancestors of the Asei people which have been depicted on the bark for generations since 1600 and produce images related to the living space of the Asei people. The purpose of this study was to determine the meaning of the symbolic forms that exist in the Asei bark painting motifs related to the life of the Asei people and their social system. This study analyzes the colors that are often used and the dominance of images in Asei bark painting motifs. From the results of the analysis, 4 Asei bark paintings often use red from betel nut, black from charcoal and white from chalk. Then the images that are often displayed in bark paintings are images of fish, coral (hak balu), fouw, and spears and hooks. The meaning of the symbolic forms shown in the dominance of colors and images on the Asei bark painting is that the Asei people want to tell the geographical conditions of the Asei island which is surrounded by water, Asei Island as a protector for the people, the daily livelihood of the Asei people, the existence of family relationships and the strong togetherness of the Asei people, as well as the community's respect for the ancestors who have protected Asei Island as well as possible.

Abstract

Maluku is famous as a spice-producing archipelago. Spices are not the only richness that Maluku has.. Maluku also has other cultural richness that are no less unique, namely Maluku Batik. The cultural richness and natural wealth of Maluku have inspired local people to apply the visual beauty of spices to batik motifs and ornaments which later became the hallmark of Maluku Batik. This research aims to analyze the visual application of spices in Maluku batik cloth. The sample included in this study were the batik cloths made by Malukubatik artists. The method that is employed in this research is a qualitative descriptive method by studying decorative styles inspired by the typical spices of Maluku batik. The results of this research study show that Maluku batik is very representative of the local wisdom of its people. Other findings from this study indicate that in general, batik motifs can be sorted based on their historical and cultural backgrounds. The glory of Maluku as a trade route for herbs and spices has been embedded in the collective memory of the Maluku people. One of these collective memories is immortalized through Maluku batik.

Abstract

Painting has undergone many developments. One of them is technical development in terms of materials. One of the unique techniques in painting is the gutta tamarind technique which uses ground tamarind seeds that are ground. This study aims to examine the use of tamarind seeds as an alternative medium in the work. Gutta tamarind is popular because the material used resembles the material for batik. However, in the process of using it, gutta tamarind which is also known as cold wax does not require a heating stove like the hot wax of batik in general. In this study, we will discuss the process of making cold wax from tamarind seed powder. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method by studying the manufacture of cold wax gutta tamarind in stages. The results of this study indicate that the gutta tamarind technique in the process of making textile paintings or wastra paintings produces characters that are no less unique and beautiful.

Abstract

West Java has a centre for craftsmen who have a variety of motifs drawn from their regional potential. One of them is Ciamis batik, but now with the pandemic of the Corona 19 virus, it has had a tremendous impact on the macro and micro industrial economy in the development of the batik business. More and more are stopping their business. So it is feared that Ciamis batik motifs are increasingly rare in the market. Through Turtle graphics, existing batik motifs are made in the form of vector images to be preserved by utilizing digital technology. This research has the aim to that the Ciamis batik motif can be made into a visual language through the digitalization process using the MuPAD programming language. The benefit is to document and reintroduce Ciamis Batik motifs that are almost extinct. The method used is a digitalization experiment through the Lindenmayer System. Ciamis batik samples selected motifs that have repetition in the form of a repeating pattern. Based on the research, the Ciamis batik motif can be made using the technique of arches, horizontal lines, vertical lines, and rotation. The conclusion of this research is that batik motif design can use the Lindenmayer System program as a blueprint and can be implemented on Indonesian batik.  This research contributes to the efficient documentation of batik motifs in digital form with good quality so that they can be implemented in the creative industry.

Abstract

The pandemic due to the spread of the COVID-19 disease has led to changes in various social structures in society. The application of social distancing as a form of preventing the spread of disease raises the phenomenon of limiting various activities that present a large number of people. Various changes in the order of life then gave rise to a new life order (new normal) in responding to the COVID-19 epidemic. A creative effort is needed so that this new life order can be implemented in society from an early age. Games are creative solutions that combine elements of design and technology so that they are very easy to be accepted by various groups. In game design, assets are very important to design first. The design of this asset game will use a visual flat design style that has gone through a visual study process by collecting similar images or photos as a visual reference in the design. The resulting game assets display simplification of both illustrations and typography, the use of solid colors with game values, and a simpler user interface (UI).

Abstract

Kampung Kreatif Dago Pojok (KKDP) as a tourism destination has a strong brand identity. Its concept is a tourist village in Bandung which appointed by UNESCO as one of Creative City. It has lots of potential for creative products and cultural activities for the tourist to experience, but minimal public communication and lack of information make the tourist miss the full experience. Using the Qualitative approach by using three steps of Design Thinking methods (Inspiration, Ideation, dan Implementation) to dig the underlying problems of this area and to propose better problem solving by utilizing the community potential and strength. Proposed Area Map and wayfinding of KKDP area as an answer to information the tourist needed. It will be applied on the wall and streets of the village and blend well with a surrounding area filled with street arts and murals. The Maps and wayfinding gave information on tourist locations and KKDP each area’s unique experiences. Each area has different products to sell and activities to do, on the maps grouped by different color so tourists can just glance and choose which experience they want. The design of the area mapping and wayfinding made in this paper acts as a design guide and the application will be done by the hand of the youngster in the community to harness their talent and potential. Hopefully, this paper will modestly contribute to the improvement of wayfinding design in the scope of tourism and destination branding.
