Abstract

Since direct presidential election in 2004, the politics of image among Indonesian political elites has become a common phenomenon. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) victory in the event was considered a success to build political imagery. Realizing that campaign activities to gain an elegant political image cannot be done overnight, a lot of political figures who have expressed their interest to run for the next presidency, in this study it is shortened as a presidential candidate -- have long embarked on various efforts for such intended purposes. Such efforts include regular visits to voters in the regional level, get involved in the social and economics activities of the people, visiting riot-torn cities and hardest-hit districts devastated by natural disaster and even helping a hand to the victims. And to some points, they appear in some ``disguised`` campaign activities in social commercials in the print and electronic media. The politics of image is done with or without any design early on. The media, as one of the communication tools to maximize the impact of the messages to be delivered, are believed to have its relevance in regard to the politics of image in the presidential candidacy. Given its geographical and demographical structures, media plays an important role in creating the political image that a presidential candidate wants to have, to reach as many potential votes as possible and in turn eventually persuade them to vote the desired presidential candidate. This research is aimed at comparing the politics of image of Megawati Soekarnoputri who is supported by the one of the country’s biggest political party and that of the politics of image of Wiranto using his new political vehicle, the Conscience Party, as his new political machine to enter Indonesia’s political system. At that time they are a potential candidate to face SBY. The research employs qualitative approach/methods, data research and analyses during the research period (2008), and divide the research areas into several indicators and then using the method of difference to find the difference between the two presidential candidates in the politics of image. Besides that, the research is also based on common political literatures. The media, interviews with the inner circles of both Megawati Soekarnoputri and Wiranto are conducated to have `inside thoughts` of the presidential candidates. Interviews with political and communication specialists, a political commentator and analyst are also conducted. And the last but not the least is the results of the surveys of the presidential candidates by the Indonesia conducted by some survey and rating companies in Indonesia.

Abstract

This paper aims to provide insightful knowledge to readers about the Covid-19 pandemic which causes changes in society related to habits or ways of communicating. It could be that the Covid-19 pandemic tends to create a new communication culture in society. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced employees to work from home (WFH). For students can study from home or distance learning. WFH, office meetings, seminars, and online learning or PJJ are carried out using online media, for example using Zoom Meetings and Google Meet. People are accustomed to using masks when doing speech communication and people are adapting to changes in vocal paralanguage that occur as a result of wearing masks. In addition, greetings or introductions change using namaste, which is a form of respect without physical contact and can be used universally when meeting other people of different gender, age, or social status. Namaste is said in front of other people, usually done respectfully with the palms of the hands together so that the palms and fingers touch each other, and placed in front of the chest while slightly lowering the head. This gesture can be done without words but it already contains the meaning conveyed by the greeting. In everyday life, the application of namaste can be equated with "peace be upon you", and can mean "hopefully [in good condition]". Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, various words or terms emerged that provide knowledge to the public through additional vocabulary such as comorbid, health protocols through the discipline of wearing masks, maintaining a safe distance, washing hands diligently, and others. These words enrich verbal communication in the self- actualization of each member of society.

Abstract

The narrative approach in social work practice is an effective intervention strategy to help victims of domestic violence (DV) recover their identity and rebuild their meaning after experiencing trauma. This study aims to analyze the application of the narrative approach in the context of social work as an effort to recover from trauma caused by domestic violence. This approach starts from the assumption that a person's life experience is constructed through narratives or stories told about themselves and their environment. Through the process of "re- authoring" (rewriting their life story), social workers help victims separate themselves from the dominant narrative filled with guilt, fear, and helplessness, towards a new narrative that emphasizes strength, resilience, and hope. The method used is a descriptive qualitative study that examines empirical and theoretical literature related to the application of narrative therapy in social practice. The results of the analysis indicate that the narrative approach allows victims to express traumatic experiences safely, identify new meanings of suffering, and develop adaptive coping strategies. In addition, social workers act as facilitators of critical reflection that encourages empowerment and the reconstruction of a positive identity. Inconclusion, the narrative approach serves not only as a therapeutic technique but also as an ethical and relational framework for social work practice that focuses on individual dignity, autonomy, and empowerment. Therefore, this approach is highly relevant in supporting the holistic recovery of domestic violence victims and strengthening trauma-informed and social justice social work practices.
