Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of the percentage of poor population and the Human Development Index (HDI) in Dairi Regency during the period 2014–2025. The research employs a quantitative approach using multiple linear regression analysis to analyze the relationship between independent and dependent variables. The study utilizes secondary data obtained from the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS). The results of the analysis indicate that the percentage of poor population has a significant negative effect on Gross Regional Domestic Product at Constant Prices (GRDP-CP). In contrast, the Human Development Index shows a significant positive effect on GRDP-CP. Simultaneously, both variables are proven to have a significant influence and are able to explain a substantial proportion of the variation in GRDP-CP. These findings emphasize that poverty reduction and equitable access to development outcomes, particularly in the areas of education, health, and income, play an important role in supporting a more productive society and stimulating economic growth in Dairi Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to empirically analyze the effect of the Gini Ratio and the Human Development Index (HDI) on the Poverty Severity Index in Deli Serdang Regency during the 2010–2025 period. The study employs a quantitative approach, using multiple linear regression analysis to examine the relationship and magnitude of the influence between the independent variables and the dependent variable. The data used in this study are secondary time series data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The results indicate that the Gini Ratio has a positive and significant effect on the Poverty Severity Index, suggesting that increasing income inequality tends to exacerbate the severity of poverty. In contrast, the Human Development Index has a negative and significant effect, indicating that improvements in human development quality through education, health, and standard of living can reduce the severity of poverty. Simultaneously, both variables are proven to have a significant effect, with the model demonstrating a relatively strong explanatory power in explaining variations in the Poverty Severity Index. These findings confirm that poverty is a multidimensional phenomenon influenced not only by economic factors but also by the quality of human development and income distribution.

Abstract

Human Development Index (HDI), Minimum Wage, Poverty, North Sumatra, Multiple Linear Regression. Poverty is one of the main problems in economic development that is still faced by various regions in Indonesia, including North Sumatra Province. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Human Development Index (HDI) and the Provincial Minimum Wage (PMW) on the Percentage of Poor Population in North Sumatra during the period 2018-2025. This research uses a quantitative approach by utilizing secondary data obtained from official publications of the Central Statistics Agency. The analytical method used is multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS version 25 software. Before conducting regression analysis, the data were first tested through classical assumption tests including normality, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, and autocorrelation tests. The results show that partially the Human Development Index has a negative and significant effect on the percentage of poor population with a t-value of -3.174 and a significance level of 0.025. The Provincial Minimum Wage also has a negative and significant effect on the percentage of poor population with a t-value of -10.178 and a significance level of 0.000. Simultaneously, the Human Development Index and Provincial Minimum Wage have a significant effect on the percentage of poor population with an F-value of 62.130. The coefficient of determination value of 0.961 indicates that 96.1% of the variation in the percentage of poor population can be explained by these two variables. These findings indicate that improving the quality of human development and implementing appropriate minimum wage policies can contribute to reducing poverty levels in North Sumatra.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the impact of Population Size and the Human Development Index (HDI) on the Open Unemployment Rate in North Sumatra Province from 2018 to 2025. Employing a quantitative methodology, this study utilizes secondary data sourced from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The analytical framework is constructed using Multiple Linear Regression, processed via SPSS software, and validated through classical assumption tests, t-tests, F-tests, and the coefficient of determination (R2).The findings reveal that, partially, Population Size exerts a negative but statistically insignificant influence on the Open Unemployment Rate, suggesting that demographic growth does not necessarily trigger unemployment if labor absorption remains stable. In contrast, the Human Development Index (HDI) demonstrates a significant positive correlation with unemployment levels, indicating that higher human capital quality may temporarily increase the unemployment rate due to more selective job-seeking behaviors among educated individuals. Simultaneously, both variables significantly influence the Open Unemployment Rate, with a high coefficient of determination confirming their collective ability to explain the majority of fluctuations in the regional labor market. These results underscore that enhancing human resource quality profoundly shapes labor market dynamics, particularly in the short run. Consequently, integrated policies that synchronize human development with industrial expansion are essential for a sustainable reduction in unemployment.

Abstract

This study analyzed the effect of unemployment and poverty on the Human Development Index in North Sumatra Province. Human development reflects the quality of life of the population through the dimensions of education, health, and a decent standard of living. However, socio-economic problems such as unemployment and poverty may influence the achievement of human development. This research employed a quantitative approach using secondary time-series data from 2013 to 2024 obtained from official publications of the Central Statistics Agency. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to examine the relationship between unemployment, poverty, and the Human Development Index. The results showed that the regression model had strong explanatory power with an Adjusted R Square value of 0.850, indicating that unemployment and poverty explained 85% of the variation in the Human Development Index. The simultaneous test showed a significant effect with an F value of 26.595 and a significance level of 0.001. Partially, unemployment did not have a significant effect on the Human Development Index with a significance value of 0.210. In contrast, poverty had a negative and significant effect with a regression coefficient of −2.594 and a significance value of 0.000. These findings indicated that poverty played a major role in determining the level of human development. Therefore, poverty reduction and improved access to education and health services are essential strategies for enhancing human development.
