Abstract

Pangkajene Central Market is one of the largest traditional markets in Sidenreng Rappang Regency, South Sulawesi, and plays a vital role in driving the local community’s economy. However, the market continues to face various challenges related to service quality and the adequacy of its physical infrastructure. Traditional markets are often associated with poor environmental conditions, suboptimal services, and a lack of supporting facilities. Issues such as disorganized spatial layout, limited parking accessibility, inefficient vendor zoning, and inadequate loading and unloading areas highlight the urgent need for market restructuring. While the Sidenreng Rappang Regency Government has shown commitment to improving public infrastructure, including traditional markets, a comprehensive plan for the revitalization of Pangkajene Central Market is still lacking. This study employs an analytical approach based on the variables outlined in the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for traditional markets to identify current problems and provide an initial overview of the potential and needs for physical restructuring. The results of this research are expected to serve as a preliminary reference for planning a more decent, well-organized traditional market that effectively supports economic activities and user comfort.

Abstract

Enrekang City Park is one of the most popular public open spaces and has become a main destination for the community to engage in physical activities, relax, and socialize, both on weekdays and weekends. The presence of various facilities such as pedestrian pathways, children's play areas, and seating has supported the park’s function as a recreational space for the public. However, it is important to further examine whether the park has been designed with an approach that considers the environmental, social, and cultural context of Enrekang. Contextual architecture is an approach that emphasizes the relationship between design and both the physical and non-physical conditions of a region, including aspects such as culture, climate, topography, and user behavior. Through this approach, the city park is expected not only to serve as a functional green space, but also to reflect local identity and create comfort aligned with the character of the local community. This research aims to identify, analyze, and evaluate the extent to which the principles of contextual architecture have been applied in the layout of Enrekang City Park. Using a descriptive-qualitative method and a case study approach, this study will observe the park’s design elements from both physical and socio-cultural aspects that support the creation of a contextual public space. The results of this research are expected to provide input for planners, architects, and local governments in creating city parks that are aligned with local character and community needs.

Abstract

The arrangement of slum areas is one of the important strategies in realizing a livable, healthy, and sustainable residential environment. However, after the arrangement, there is often a vacancy in social functions in the area due to the suboptimal utilization of public spaces. This study aims to formulate a model for the development of inclusive and adaptive public spaces in large-scale post-slum arrangement areas, using case studies in the Allepolea and Maccini Baji areas, Lau District, Maros Regency, which have a total slum area of 17.23 hectares. The research method used is a qualitative-descriptive approach with data collection techniques including field observation, in-depth interviews, questionnaire surveys, and a review of planning documents (RTRW 2022–2042). The results show that there is an urgent need for public spaces that can accommodate social activities, informal economic activities, and interactions between residents. Based on the analysis, an alternative model for public spaces based on local needs is formulated, which includes functional, ecological, and socio-cultural aspects. This model is expected to serve as a reference for planning public spaces in residential areas that have been arranged, both in Maros and in other similar areas.

Abstract

Public spaces such as city parks play an important role in supporting social activities and community interactions. Taman Kota Enrekang is one of the green open spaces that is frequently used by various groups for recreational, educational, and community activities. This study aims to examine the usage patterns of interactive spaces in Taman Kota Enrekang through a biophilic design approach, which integrates natural elements to enhance the comfort and well-being of users. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques including field observations, interviews, and documentation. The results show that specific zones in the park, such as open seating areas, community stages, and nature literacy spaces, are more frequently used for gathering, discussions, and arts and educational activities. Biophilic elements such as lush vegetation, natural lighting, and water features contribute to user comfort and increase the duration and intensity of social interactions. These findings can serve as a basis for designing and developing public spaces that are responsive to the social and ecological needs of the community.

Abstract

Banyumas Old Town is a heritage asset that reflects the history and urban development of Banyumas Regency. To date, urban dynamics often change the existing spatial configuration in the city, which directly impacts vitality and accessibility. Understanding spatial connectivity is crucial for the preservation and sustainable development of historic areas. This study aims to quantitatively analyze the elements of city image in the form of paths and nodes in the level of spatial connectivity in the Banyumas Old Town area. The main method used is space syntax. This approach studies the regional road network using axial line and visual graph analysis (VGA) for analysis. The key parameters for quantitative calculations include integration, connectivity, and choice. The analysis revealed that not all spaces in Banyumas Old Town have a good level of connectivity. Main corridors were found with high global integration values, which function as the backbone of circulation and commercial activities. Conversely, several zones with important historical value actually show low local integration values, indicating spatial segregation. These findings objectively map the spatial hierarchy and functional potential of the area. The implication is that the revitalization strategy or design direction in Banyumas Old Town can be directed in accordance with the city's image to increase economic and social vitality without including efforts to preserve its historical value.

Abstract

Abstract: The Al-Aqsa Manarat Qudus Mosque is the oldest mosque on the island of Java. The presence of the paduraksa gate inside the mosque, specifically in the main building of the main prayer hall, is what makes this mosque unique. The problem addressed in this study is how to understand the beauty of the Al-Aqsa Manarat Qudus Mosque from the perspective of Djelantik's theory of beauty. This method is a study aimed at dissecting the characteristics of beauty in a work of art using aesthetic theory. The data used were obtained from field studies, literature studies, and interviews. The method employed is a qualitative descriptive method with a single embedded case study. The results of this research indicate that the interior of Al-Aqsa Manarat Qudus Mosque has characteristics of beauty from an aesthetic perspective. Beauty is identified through the description of the composition of shapes, principles, elements, and meanings in the mosque's interior. Al-Aqsa Manarat Qudus Mosque has a strong sense of unity, viewed from the traits of symmetry, rhythm, and harmony present in its interior. The spatial elements in the Al-Aqsa Manarat Qudus Mosque have geometric shapes, smooth textures, and soft colors. This creates a solemn and grand atmosphere in the Al-Aqsa Manarat Qudus Mosque.

Abstract

Abstract

Juppandang Subdistrict is one of the residential areas in Enrekang City that has experienced physical and social development along with urban growth. This development has affected changes in spatial patterns, building characteristics, and the quality of the residential environment. This study aims to examine the condition of the residential environment in Juppandang Subdistrict from an urban architecture perspective, focusing on spatial structure, settlement patterns, physical characteristics of buildings, and the relationship between space and community activities. The research employs a descriptive approach, with data collected through field observations, documentation, and interviews with local residents. The results indicate that the residential environment in Juppandang Subdistrict has developed organically, influenced by the social, economic, and cultural conditions of the community. The resulting settlement pattern tends to be unplanned as a whole, leading to limitations in open space, circulation, and overall environmental quality. This study is expected to serve as a reference for more sustainable and urban-architecture-oriented planning and management of residential environments in Enrekang City.
