Abstract

Language is an important communication tool that humans use in everyday life. In psycholinguistic studies, language is seen from a psychological aspect that studies how humans communicate and understand language. A second language is a language learned after the mother tongue, and is often considered a foreign language. Many people think Arabic is difficult to learn, but actually each language has different levels of difficulty and ease depending on its characteristics, such as morphology, phonology, syntax and semantic systems. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach through observation, interviews and documentation. This research aims to understand the history of the development of Arabic in Sumatra, which is supported by the role of mosques and Islamic boarding schools as centers for Arabic language education. Apart from that, this research also highlights the relationship between Arabic and cultural perspectives as well as Islamic religious views towards Arabic. Arabic has a long history in Sumatra, with mosques and Islamic boarding schools as learning centers that teach Arabic letters, verses from the Koran, and rules of worship. From a cultural perspective, Arabic acts as a universal means of communication and connection to Islamic culture. In the Islamic religion, Arabic is considered the unified language of Muslims and is used in worship rituals. Arabic is also recognized as an international language by the UN, showing its importance in the development of Islamic science and Islamic civilization.

Abstract

The term kalimah - Arabic, in Indonesian is called a word, is defined as a collection of several hijaiyyah letters that have meaning, or the smallest unit of utterance that has meaning. All spoken or written sounds, whether consisting of several letters or only one letter that has a concept of meaning, are categorized as kalimah (Indonesian words). This research aims to determine the application of changing Fi'il Madhi and Fi'il Mudhori to Fi'il Amr in Arabic sentences. The method in this research uses a qualitative approach with library research data collection techniques. The results of this research are that fi'il amr is a fi'il that contains the work desired by the mutakallim (speaker) as the person giving the order to be carried out by the mukhattab (interlocutor) as the person being ordered. Its use adjusts to the person you are talking to, and also to whom and how many people you are talking to according to the mukhattab (interlocutor). Fi'il amr also adapts to the wazan of fi'il madhi. The formation of fi'il amr adapts to fi'il madhi and mudhori.

Abstract

One of the four Arabic language skills is the ability to write, or what is called maharah al-kitabah. There are four categories of Arabic language skills, namely listening skills (maharah al-istima'), speaking skills (maharah al-kalam), reading skills (maharah al-qira'ah), and writing skills (maharah al-kitabah). Writing is an activity related to the thinking process and the ability to convey ideas through writing. Insya' muwajjah, or structured writing, is one method to improve the ability of maharah al-kitabah with a teaching method that asks students to write perfect sentences or essays with some direction and instructions from the teacher. This research was conducted with the aim of getting an answer to whether one of the insha' muwajjah learning methods could be an alternative for achieving success for a teacher in teaching one of the skills that is included in the most difficult level of other maharah. This research uses analysis that the author quotes from various secondary data, in the form of scientific journals, theses and internet media. From the results that we have collected from various previous sources, it shows that the insha' muwajjah method can be an alternative because the learning carried out starts from easy to difficult stages so that students' understanding can be evenly captured in learning until skills are formed.

Abstract

The program was implemented at SDN Sukahati. SDN Sukahati is a state-owned school and operates at the elementary school level. Based on initial observations made by the author to one of the teachers at SDN Sukahati, where English learning in elementary school has just begun to be taught again and again English learning in elementary school is only done using ordinary textbooks which seem monotonous. This certainly has an impact on student motivation in learning which is lacking. Therefore, we have an initiative to provide a solution to this problem, namely by providing English learning to students, by implementing the Fun English method to improve the English vocabulary of 5th grade SDN Sukahati students, especially in the Food and Beverage material. The stages of the activity implementation are filling out a pretest by students, then teaching or providing treatment with audiovisual media in the form of videos, PowerPoint and flashcards to improve students' vocabulary, especially in the Food and Beverage material. The purpose of this community service is to improve students' English vocabulary, especially in the Food and Beverage material, and to increase students' motivation to learn English. The data collection method for this activity involved creating pretest and posttest questions. The data analysis used the N-Gain test to determine the categories of student learning outcomes using the Fun English method to improve English vocabulary. The results of this activity showed an N-Gain value of 0.91. Based on the N-Gain value obtained, this activity is categorized as effective. Therefore, it can be concluded that this activity was able to improve students' English vocabulary. The target outputs were an increase in students' English vocabulary and increased motivation to learn English. Academic outcomes included a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with partners and a report. Implementation of this program was hampered by the sudden change in participants, resulting in a shortage of copies of the pretest and posttest sheets. The second problem lay with the technician, who lacked an HDMI cable for the projector, ultimately using an older laptop with poor performance, resulting in slow loading times for videos and PowerPoint presentations.

Abstract

This article is a report on Community Service (PkM) activities aimed at addressing the low interest in reading and writing among elementary school students in Temiyang Village, Kroya District, Indramayu Regency. This low interest in reading is influenced by students' boredom with conventional learning methods and lack of parental attention. The solution implemented is a creative and fun learning program using Story Books (Short Stories) and digital presentation applications (PowerPoint). This program was implemented on July 15, 2024, at the Group 7 Post in Temiyang Village, involving students in grades 1 to 6 of SD Negeri 2 Temiyang. The methods used were lectures, discussions, and practice, and were evaluated using pretests and posttests. The results of data analysis using the N-Gain Test showed a significant increase in understanding and interest. The average N-Gain score was 0.82 (81.74%) which was categorized as "Effective" for improving students' understanding in reading learning. This increase was also supported by an average posttest score of 93.00. The conclusion of this activity is that the use of storybooks as teaching materials has proven effective in fostering students' interest in reading and writing, despite challenges such as the persistence of students who are not yet fluent readers.

Abstract

This article is a sociolinguistic review that aims to comprehensively analyze language variation, including its functions, types, and shaping factors in society. Language is understood to be inseparable from the social context of its users, where the phenomenon of differences in language styles influenced by social factors gives rise to the concept of language variation. Language variation arises because the community of speakers is diverse in terms of age, education, occupation, social status, and communication situations. This study identifies various types of language variation such as regional variation (dialect), social variation, functional variation (register), variation in formality (style), variation in means (spoken and written), and individual variation (idiolect). Furthermore, this study summarizes the functions of language variation, including communicative, social identity, solidarity/intimacy, aesthetic, persuasive, emotional, and practical functions. Factors shaping variation are discussed, including geographical, social, situational/contextual, functional/field, individual, cultural/group, as well as developments in time and technology. The conclusion of this review shows that language variation is a natural phenomenon that not only enriches the treasury of communication but also reflects the identity, solidarity, and dynamics of society. A good understanding of language variation is crucial for fostering tolerance for linguistic diversity and improving effective communication skills in various social contexts.
