Abstract

Thumb joint pain caused by overuse injury is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints among badminton players and may impair racket grip strength and overall athletic performance. The use of a thumb spica splint is a conservative intervention designed to stabilize the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint and reduce pain. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a modified thumb spica splint in reducing thumb joint pain among badminton players in Karanganyar Regency. A quasi experimental study with a post-test-only control group design was conducted. A total of 100 participants were allocated into two groups: a control group (n = 50) using a standard thumb spica splint and an intervention group (n = 50) using a modified thumb spica splint. Pain intensity was assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, and the Mann-Whitney U test, with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that the mean VAS score was 4.50 ± 0.51 in the control group and 1.84 ± 0.42 in the intervention group. The Mann-Whitney U test demonstrated a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.001), with a 59.1% greater reduction in pain scores among participants using the modified thumb spica splint. These findings indicate that the modified thumb spica splint is more effective than the standard thumb spica splint in reducing thumb joint pain among badminton players. The modified orthosis has the potential to serve as an evidence-based conservative intervention for managing pain associated with overuse injuries while supporting improved hand function in badminton athletes.

Abstract

Servicescape, or the physical environment of a hospital, is an important factor that can shape patients' perceptions of the image of a healthcare institution. A clean, comfortable, well-organized environment supported by adequate facilities has the potential to enhance patients' trust in the hospital. This study aimed to determine the relationship between servicescape and hospital image in the Inpatient Unit of Lamaddukkelleng Regional General Hospital, Sengkang. A cross-sectional study design was employed using a proportional stratified random sampling technique. The study sample consisted of 100 respondents selected from a population of 14,204 patients. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through univariate and bivariate analyses using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that 68 respondents (68.0%) rated the servicescape as adequate, while 32 respondents (32.0%) rated it as inadequate. A total of 72 respondents (72.0%) had a positive perception of the hospital image, whereas 28 respondents (28.0%) had a negative perception. Among respondents who rated the servicescape as adequate, 54 (79.4%) had a positive perception of the hospital image, while only 18 respondents (56.3%) in the inadequate servicescape group had a positive perception. The Chi-Square test yielded a p-value of 0.030 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between servicescape and hospital image. It can be concluded that a well-maintained physical environment plays an important role in building a positive hospital image. Hospital management should continuously improve cleanliness, facility adequacy, room comfort, lighting, and environmental layout to strengthen patients' trust and positive perceptions of hospital services. Improving servicescape quality is expected to enhance patient experience, loyalty, and hospital competitiveness in healthcare delivery.

Abstract

Hypertension is a public health problem that requires continuous management through the involvement of patients, families, health cadres, and healthcare professionals. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the Community-Based Health Management Model in improving knowledge, hypertension control behaviors, medication adherence, and blood pressure control among hypertensive patients in the working area of Tanasitolo Public Health Center. This quantitative study employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. A total of 40 hypertensive patients were selected using purposive sampling. The eight-week intervention included patient identification, four community-based education sessions, blood pressure monitoring, and hypertension management assistance. Data were collected using questionnaires assessing knowledge, hypertension control behaviors, and medication adherence, while blood pressure was measured using a digital device. The approach positioned the community as an active partner in monitoring risk factors, adopting a healthy diet, performing physical activity, managing stress, and maintaining regular therapy. The results showed that mean knowledge scores increased from 61.25 to 82.75, hypertension control behavior scores from 58.40 to 77.65, and medication adherence scores from 60.15 to 79.80. Mean systolic blood pressure decreased from 158.45 mmHg to 143.20 mmHg, while diastolic blood pressure decreased from 94.75 mmHg to 87.30 mmHg. All variables showed statistically significant differences (p<0.001). The Community-Based Health Management Model effectively improved hypertension self-management and supported blood pressure control. This model may be developed as a community-based hypertension management approach in primary healthcare by continuously involving health cadres and families.

Abstract

The quality of inpatient services is an important indicator of hospital performance and is strongly influenced by the implementation of service policies. This study aimed to evaluate inpatient service policies in improving service quality at Prima Husada Hospital, Sengkang. A qualitative design with an evaluative approach was employed. Twelve participants were selected using purposive sampling, including hospital management, the head of the service division, inpatient ward heads, staff nurses, and patients or their family members. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, observations, and document reviews and were analyzed thematically. Data credibility was ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings identified five main themes: implementation of inpatient service policies, compliance with standard operating procedures, human resources and workload, availability of facilities and infrastructure, and service quality monitoring and evaluation. Policies and standard operating procedures were available and used as service guidelines; however, policy dissemination was not conducted regularly. Staff compliance with standard operating procedures was generally good, although increased patient volume could increase workload and affect service responsiveness. Basic facilities were available, but several facilities required maintenance and improvement. Monitoring was conducted through supervision, meetings, and follow-up on patient complaints. The study concludes that policy implementation has supported service quality improvement; however, stronger policy dissemination, workforce management, facility improvement, and more structured monitoring and evaluation documentation systems are required. Strengthening management commitment and interprofessional coordination is also necessary to ensure consistent, responsive, and patient-centered policy implementation.

Abstract

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a digestive system disorder caused by the rise of stomach acid into the esophagus, which can cause symptoms such as heartburn, a burning sensation in the chest, nausea, and a sour taste in the mouth. One factor influencing the occurrence of GERD is irregular eating patterns, and persistent GERD can affect the psychological condition of patients, including anxiety. This study aimed to determine the relationship between eating patterns and anxiety levels among GERD patients in the working area of Tempe Public Health Center, Wajo Regency. This study used a quantitative cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 103 GERD patients, with a sample of 82 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument consisted of eating pattern and anxiety questionnaires, analyzed using the Spearman Rank test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that most respondents had poor eating patterns (44 people; 53.7%) and experienced anxiety (60 people; 73.2%). The Spearman Rank test obtained a p-value of 0.001 (<0.05) with a correlation coefficient of 0.355, indicating a significant relationship between eating patterns and anxiety level, with a low strength and positive direction of correlation. This study concludes that there is a relationship between eating patterns and anxiety level among GERD patients in the working area of Tempe Public Health Center, Wajo Regency.
