Abstract

The high unemployment rate among Vocational High School (SMK) graduates in Indonesia indicates an urgent mismatch between educational competencies and industrial needs. This research aims to explore the development of an industry-based vocational curriculum through a case study at SMK Negeri 2 Semarang. Using qualitative methods, the study analyzes the curriculum adjustment process and its implications for student work readiness. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with seven respondents selected via purposive sampling, observations, and document analysis. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model to ensure methodological rigor. The results demonstrate the successful implementation of the Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka) through annual alignment with specific partners like Alfamidi and PT Metropolitan Golden Management. These findings provide theoretical implications that validate Ralph Tyler’s Theory in a modern SMK context. Despite challenges regarding work culture adaptation and school capacity, this approach effectively increases graduate employability. It is recommended that national standardization for curriculum alignment procedures be established as a practical policy measure.

Abstract

The manufacturing sector in Melaka is undergoing a rapid transformation toward Industry 4.0, yet its success is hindered by a significant skills gap between engineering graduates and industrial requirements. This study aims to analyze the dimensions of the skills gap, the impact of Skill-Biased Technological Change (SBTC) as a driver of job polarization, and structural issues such as the "Poor Engineer" phenomenon in Melaka. Using a systematic literature review and secondary data analysis from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and industrial reports, the study finds that the most critical gaps exist in digital communication, complex problem-solving, and data/AI literacy. The analysis reveals that the "Poor Engineer" phenomenon, where 35% of graduates receive salaries below RM 2,000, is driven by a misalignment between graduate competencies and the high standards of Industry 4.0, leading to a skill-related underemployment rate of 32.2%. Although Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) records a high employability rate (96.4%), the quality of job placement is still dominated by technician-level positions, indicating that employability does not necessarily reflect a successful skill-match. This research recommends aligning curricula through Teaching Factory models, enhancing digital literacy, and urging a government review of minimum wage structures for technical graduates to retain talent and ensure national technological sovereignty.

Abstract

"This study aims to analyze the influence of Complexity Leadership on curriculum innovation in Activator Schools (Sekolah Penggerak) within the DKI Jakarta region. The relevance of Complexity Leadership Theory (CLT) in Jakarta is underscored by the frequent stagnation of traditional top-down leadership models in addressing the complexities of the Merdeka Curriculum within heterogeneous urban environments. A quantitative approach with an explanatory correlational design was applied to a sample of 301 senior high school teachers selected through proportional random sampling. Data was analyzed using variance-based Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) via WarpPLS software. The results indicate that Complexity Leadership comprising administrative, adaptive, and enabling functions exerts a positive and significant influence on curriculum innovation. The enabling leadership dimension was found to be the most dominant factor in facilitating "adaptive space" for teachers to creatively implement the Merdeka Curriculum (β = 0.428, p < 0.001). These findings underscore the importance of shifting leadership paradigms from bureaucratic control toward network facilitation to navigate educational transformation in the capital city. This study recommends enhancing agility competencies for school principals to ensure the sustainability of adaptive and inclusive educational innovation.

Abstract

This study evaluated the alignment between the Applied Chemistry curriculum at the University of Zawia and the technical competency requirements of the Zawia Oil Refinery (ZOR) in Libya. Alignment evaluation is urgently needed because of the widening gap between traditional academic outcomes and the rapid digitalization of high-tech refinery operations. The research adopted an evaluative approach using an exploratory sequential mixed-methods design guided by Stufflebeam's CIPP model. Qualitative interview findings were used to develop quantitative questionnaire items to ensure methodological rigor. Participants included 15 faculty members and 10 senior technical experts from ZOR, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection occurred between 2024 and 2025 to reflect current industrial conditions. Quantitative analysis showed a moderate overall alignment (M=3.01, SD=0.71, 60.2%). The lowest scores were recorded in Process Simulation (M=2.41) and Digital Literacy (M=2.36), indicating that graduates lack critical proficiency in LIMS and simulation software like Aspen HYSYS required for modern refinery work. The study identifies structural weaknesses in laboratory modernization and internship quality. The most urgent recommendation is the establishment of an Industrial Advisory Board to facilitate the integration of industry-standard digital tools and practical training modules.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze strategies for translating Finnish pedagogical excellence into sustainable primary school management, focusing on fostering equity and diversity. This evaluation urgently required as many traditional school management models as possible in centralized systems to struggle to balance rigorous academic standards with student well-being and inclusive practices. The novelty of this research lies in the development of a "Contextual Translation" framework that mediates progressive Finnish values with local institutional constraints. Employing a qualitative approach with a single-case study design at a private elementary school in Indonesia, the research involved eight key informants, including the principal, curriculum coordinator, and senior teachers. Primary data were gathered through virtual interviews via Zoom, participant observations conducted through high-resolution video recordings of learning activities, and an in-depth analysis of strategic documents from 2024–2025 to ensure the credibility of remote qualitative procedures. The results indicate that the implementation of Phenomenon-Based Learning (PhenoBL) effectively fosters student agency and intrinsic motivation, evidenced by a 30% increase in student-led project initiatives. The success of this transformation is supported by a distributive leadership model that disperses authority among teachers, creating organizational resilience. However, adaptation faces challenges such as institutional rigidity and heavy administrative burdens. The study finds that "Digital Literacy" is a critical hurdle; without it, graduates and teachers cannot navigate the digitalized tools necessary for modern interdisciplinary learning. The study recommends the adoption of social justice leadership and the most urgent step: establishing an Industrial Advisory Board or a localized "Innovation Committee" to cut through bureaucratic hurdles by integrating local values like gotong royong.
