This study discusses the humanitarian crisis of the 21st century by reviewing the historical experiences of the Abbasid Dynasty and the thoughts of Imam al-Ghazali. Globalisation, which has brought advances in science and technology while also giving rise to humanitarian problems such as social inequality, moral decadence, and spiritual disorientation, shows a pattern similar to the decline of Islamic civilisation during the Abbasid period. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method. Data was collected from classical and contemporary literature, then analysed through content analysis and a historical-comparative approach. The results of the study show that the decline of the Abbasids was not only caused by external attacks, but also by internal crises in the form of weak morality, corruption, and a loss of spiritual orientation. Imam al-Ghazali's thoughts, particularly in Ihya 'Ulum al-Din, emphasise the importance of purifying the heart, strengthening morality, and integrating knowledge with faith and ethics as fundamental solutions to the humanitarian crisis. Thus, the historical lessons from the Abbasids and al-Ghazali's thoughts provide important reflections for modern global society to not only focus on material progress but also to build moral and spiritual foundations for the creation of a just and sustainable civilisation. Keywords: Humanitarian Crisis, Abbasid Dynasty, Imam al-Ghazali.

Higher education Islamic Religious Education plays a strategic role in shaping students who not only understand Islamic teachings conceptually but also internalize spiritual values in their daily lives. However, learning practices in universities often emphasize cognitive understanding rather than the integration of cognitive and affective dimensions. This study aims to analyze the implementation of mind mapping in the “Manusia Bertuhan” (Human as a Theistic Being) learning material to integrate students’ cognitive understanding and spiritual awareness in the Management Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Negeri Makassar, Indonesia. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest model. The participants consisted of 38 management students enrolled in the Islamic Religious Education course in the 2025/2026 academic year, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through cognitive tests, a spiritual awareness questionnaire using a Likert scale, observation sheets of student engagement, and assessment rubrics for mind mapping products. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, normality testing, paired sample t-test, normalized gain (N-gain), correlation analysis, and effect size calculation (Cohen’s d) using SPSS. The findings revealed significant improvements in both cognitive and affective domains after the implementation of mind mapping. The mean cognitive score increased from 67.4 to 82.6, while spiritual awareness scores increased from 72.1 to 85.3. The paired sample t-test showed a significant difference (p < 0.001) with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.87). In addition, correlation analysis indicated a positive relationship between cognitive understanding and spiritual awareness (r = 0.61, p < 0.01). These results suggest that mind mapping effectively supports the integration of knowledge and value internalization in Islamic Religious Education learning. The study implies that visual and student-centered learning strategies can strengthen both conceptual understanding and spiritual development of university students. Future studies may expand the design using control groups and broader academic contexts.

This paper investigates the evolution of the marriage contract (al-aqdu al-nikah) facilitated by digital methods in contemporary society, emphasizing its legitimacy under Islamic law. The swift advancement of communication technology has facilitated the phenomenon of virtual marriage, prompting inquiries over the validity of ijab qabul conducted through online platforms. This occurrence necessitates an exhaustive legal examination rooted in Islamic jurisprudence. The aim of this study is to examine the permissibility and legal standing of virtual marriage contracts within an Islamic legal framework. This study utilizes a qualitative research methodology through a normative juridical lens, drawing on primary sources including the Qur’an, Hadith, and classical fiqh literature, alongside contemporary scholarly perspectives. The results demonstrate that the legitimacy of a digital marriage contract is contingent upon the satisfaction of fundamental pillars (rukun) and conditions (syarat) of marriage, including the presence of the bride and groom, witnesses, consent, and the clarity of ijab qabul, even when executed via digital medium. Nevertheless, scholarly disagreements endure, especially about matters of physical presence and the associated hazards of deception. under conclusion, virtual marriage may be deemed valid under Islamic law under specific conditions, contingent upon the fulfillment of all essential prerequisites and the establishment of legal protections.
