Abstract

Abstract

Self-harming behavior has become an important mental health concern among adolescents and is frequently associated with various psychological factors, including self-esteem. This study aimed to examine the effect of self-esteem on self-harm among junior high school students and to identify its implications for school guidance and counseling services. A quantitative cross-sectional correlational design was employed involving 214 Grade VIII students from SMPN 14 Bekasi, Indonesia, who were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using researcher-developed self-esteem and self-harm questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression with IBM SPSS Statistics version 20.  The findings revealed a significant negative effect of self-esteem on self-harm (β = -0.415, p < .001), indicating that students with higher self-esteem were less likely to engage in self-harming behavior. Self-esteem explained 31.6% of the variance in self-harm, suggesting that additional psychological and environmental factors may also contribute to adolescents' self-harming behavior. These findings highlight the protective role of self-esteem in reducing self-harm among adolescents and provide empirical support for the development of school-based counseling interventions that strengthen students' self-esteem and adaptive coping skills as part of preventive mental health programs.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview and determine the relationship between Body Dysmorphic Disorder and Self-Acceptance in Students of SMK Pembangunan Jaya Yakapi. The research was conducted using quantitative methods. The data and sources in this study were students at SMK Pembangunan Jaya Yakapi, totaling 275 students and were determined to be the source of research data, this research was a random sampling study. The author's data analysis technique uses Linear Regression by collecting data, processing data, and interpreting data. The results of data interpretation values through Pearson correlation analysis show a significant negative relationship between Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) and Self-Acceptance (SA) in students, with a correlation coefficient of r = -0.674 and a significance level of p = 0.000. The correlation coefficient value is included in the strong category which indicates that the higher the level of BDD that students have, the lower the level of self-acceptance.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of online games on the social interactions of students at An-Nur Junior High School Jakarta. The research method uses a quantitative approach with simple linear regression analysis. The results of the study indicate that online games have a significant effect on students' social interactions, as indicated by a significance value of 0.000 ≤ 0.05 so that H₀ is rejected and Hₐ is accepted. The regression equation obtained is Y = 28.868 + 0.543X with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.426. This means that 42.6% of the variation in students' social interactions is influenced by online gaming activities, while the other 57.4% is influenced by other factors outside this study.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the level of academic grit among final-year students in the Early Childhood Education (PG PAUD) program and to analyze its relationship with students’ reasons for choosing their major, specifically between autonomous choice (self-determined) and non-autonomous choice (parental influence or external recommendation). A quantitative survey design was employed, involving 55 final-year students completing their thesis. Data were collected using the Academic Grit Scale (Clark & Malecki, 2019), adapted to the Indonesian context. The findings revealed that students generally demonstrated high levels of academic grit (M = 41.98), with 94.5% categorized as high to very high. ANOVA results indicated no statistically significant differences in grit levels based on reasons for choosing the major [F(2,52) = 0.782, p = 0.463, η² = 0.029]. Although students who chose their major autonomously showed slightly higher grit scores compared to those who followed external recommendations, the differences were not significant. These results suggest that the relationship between autonomous choice and grit is complex and mediated by motivational internalization, satisfaction of basic psychological needs, and the quality of the learning environment. In the collectivist cultural context of Indonesia, family influence does not necessarily hinder grit development, as long as students succeed in internalizing the values behind their choice. This study highlights practical implications for university counseling services, particularly in facilitating the internalization of professional values and supporting the identity development of students as future early childhood educators.

Abstract

Career adaptability is an essential competency for university students transitioning from higher education to the workplace, particularly during internships. However, previous studies examining the relationship between adversity quotient and career adaptability have reported inconsistent findings, while evidence among Indonesian internship students remains limited. This study aimed to examine the effect of adversity quotient on career adaptability among internship students at Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Fatah. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed involving 392 internship students selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Adversity Response Profile (ARP) adapted by Utomo (2021) and the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS) adapted by Sulistiani et al. (2018). Simple linear regression was used to analyze the data. The results indicated that adversity quotient had a positive and significant effect on career adaptability (R = .893, R² = .797, F = 1527.450, p < .001), explaining 79.7% of the variance in career adaptability. These findings highlight the importance of adversity quotient as a psychological resource that supports students' career adaptability during internships and provide empirical evidence for developing university career preparation and internship support programs.
