Abstract

This study aims to analyze perceptions of facility adequacy and accessibility and their influence on visitor satisfaction levels at the Dolli Bungaeja tourist attraction in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi. The focus of the study includes evaluating facilities such as toilets, parking areas, prayer rooms, seating areas, and information boards, as well as accessibility, which includes road conditions, ease of directional signage, and the availability of public transportation and private vehicles. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and direct observation at the location. A mixed qualitative and quantitative approach was used to reveal visitor experiences and measure satisfaction objectively. The results of the study show that most visitors consider the existing facilities to be adequate with fairly good maintenance, especially in terms of cleanliness. However, there is a need to improve facilities by adding toilets and expanding the parking area to accommodate the increasing number of visitors. In terms of accessibility, the road conditions leading to the location still need to be improved to ensure a comfortable and safe journey. Some visitors also considered the directional signs and information boards at the location to be unclear, making it difficult for new visitors. Easy access to tourist sites has been shown to contribute positively to visitor satisfaction, which in turn increases the likelihood of visitors returning and recommending the destination to others. The study recommends improving road infrastructure, developing more comprehensive supporting facilities, and optimizing digital information and promotion. The involvement of the local community is very important in destination management to maintain cleanliness, preserve the environment, and improve services. In addition, the development of new tourist attractions such as ecotourism activities, enrichment of local culture, and improvement of supporting facilities such as gazebos and rest areas will add to the destination's appeal. Managers are also advised to improve training for staff so that they are able to provide excellent and responsive service to visitors' needs. Support from the local government and cooperation with relevant stakeholders are also key factors in implementing sustainable tourism development strategies. With these steps, Dolli Bungaeja is expected to not only become a competitive and comfortable destination but also be able to provide sustainable economic contributions and empower the community socially. This study provides a comprehensive overview of the factors that determine visitor satisfaction and relevant development strategies based on questionnaire data and interviews that have been thoroughly analyzed.

Abstract

This study examines safety and comfort in the tourism transportation business. The purpose of this paper is to describe safety and security in the tourism transportation business, including fleet conditions, driver behavior, and company management systems. This study also aims to formulate strategies to improve safety and security, thereby ensuring tourists feel more protected and enhancing their experience. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Data were obtained through direct observation of tourism transportation services, interviews with management, drivers, and tourists, and the use of documents related to company operational standards and government regulations. Furthermore, a SWOT analysis was used to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The results show how safety and security are portrayed in the tourism transportation business. Safety and security issues indicate that most tourism transportation companies have made efforts to maintain safety and security, but various shortcomings remain. Identified obstacles include inconsistent fleet maintenance, uneven driver skills, and limited systems for monitoring the safety of goods and passengers. Tourists also expressed anxiety, especially during long-distance or nighttime trips. Strategies to improve safety and security are proposed. The analysis resulted in several strategic proposals, including improving regular driver training, using assistive technology such as GPS and CCTV, developing stricter and more consistent operational standards, strengthening cooperation with police and tourism agencies, and implementing safety education campaigns for tourists.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the current conditions of activities and accessibility to support tourism at Bosowa Beach and analyze visitor perceptions of accessibility and facilities at Bosowa Beach. It is hoped that this research will contribute to sustainable tourism at Bosowa Beach. To ensure tourists feel comfortable and at ease during their visit, good facilities and accessibility are crucial. Good facilities are crucial for keeping visitors satisfied and wanting to return. Bosowa Beach boasts beautiful natural scenery and numerous engaging recreational activities, but research has found that supporting facilities such as public restrooms, seating, and parking areas are still lacking. Furthermore, poor roads and a lack of public transportation limit access to the beach. Bosowa Beach still faces challenges such as inadequate supporting facilities and limited road access. The research approach uses a qualitative descriptive method with the aim of describing tourists' perceptions comprehensively. Data collection techniques in this study used observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation studies. Observations were conducted directly in the beach area to identify the condition of facilities and accessibility. The questionnaire was structured using a Likert scale with five assessment categories, ranging from very good to very bad. The results of this study indicate that tourist perceptions of facilities and accessibility still need to be improved to support the sustainable development of Bosowa Beach tourism. This research provides strategic recommendations for managers and local governments on how to improve facilities and increase accessibility to enhance tourist satisfaction, destination attractiveness, and local economic contribution. Strategic recommendations are aimed at destination managers and local governments to improve road infrastructure, public facilities, and accessibility of tourist information. These improvements are expected to increase Bosowa Beach's popularity as a disability-friendly destination, increase tourist arrivals, and boost the local economy. This research provides important insights that will serve as a basis for developing policies related to sustainable tourism at Bosowa Beach.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of inclusive tourism at Bira Beach, Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi, focusing on accessibility and local community empowerment as key components of sustainable coastal tourism. Although Bira Beach possesses exceptional natural potential, several challenges remain—particularly limited accessibility for people with disabilities and insufficient community involvement in destination management. Using a qualitative evaluative approach, this research applies the Universal Design Principles framework combined with community empowerment theory to assess the effectiveness of inclusive tourism development programs. Data were obtained through interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving local residents, tourism stakeholders, and government representatives. The findings indicate that accessibility facilities, such as ramps, special toilets, and digital information systems, are still inadequate, resulting in unequal opportunities for all visitors. In addition, local communities are mostly involved in small-scale tourism activities and have limited participation in strategic decision-making processes. This condition constrains the realization of sustainable and inclusive tourism benefits. The study recommends improving physical and digital accessibility, enhancing training and capacity-building programs for local residents, and strengthening collaboration between government, private sectors, and non-governmental organizations. The integration of inclusive design and community empowerment can support Bira Beach’s transformation into an accessible and sustainable marine tourism destination that benefits all stakeholders.

Abstract

Tourism development in disaster-prone areas presents both opportunities and risks that demand careful spatial planning and sustainable management. Situbondo Regency, located in East Java, Indonesia, offers diverse natural attractions ranging from coastal landscapes and mountain ecosystems to conservation areas. However, the regency’s geographical characteristics also expose many of its tourism destinations to hazards such as floods, landslides, earthquakes, volcanic activity, and coastal abrasion. This study aims to map tourism areas identified in the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) of Situbondo and examine their overlap with disaster-prone zones as a foundation for developin2g strategies toward sustainable tourism. A spatial analysis approach was employed by overlaying designated tourism zones with hazard-prone maps derived from official planning documents and secondary data. The results indicate that several key tourism sites, particularly those situated along coastal corridors and volcanic slopes, fall within medium to high disaster risk areas. These findings underscore the urgency of integrating disaster risk reduction measures into tourism development and policy implementation. The study suggests that sustainable strategies should emphasize infrastructure resilience, the incorporation of disaster-sensitive design principles, and the reinforcement of local community capacity in preparedness and response. In addition, diversification of tourism products that reduce environmental vulnerability, improved early warning systems, and stronger risk communication with stakeholders are essential for minimizing potential losses. Aligning spatial planning instruments with sustainable tourism frameworks is also crucial to ensure long-term destination resilience. This research highlights the importance of disaster-aware tourism planning in Situbondo Regency. By integrating spatial planning, disaster risk management, and sustainability principles, Situbondo can strengthen the safety of its destinations, maintain ecological integrity, and enhance the resilience of its tourism sector in the face of natural hazards.

Abstract

Delta Lakkang, located in the heart of Makassar City, is an “urban village” surrounded by rivers that offers natural, cultural, and historical tourism potential. Attractions such as delta landscapes, traditional fishing and farming practices, colonial heritage sites, and local culinary experiences highlight its uniqueness. However, tourism development and marketing efforts remain sporadic, relying mostly on local initiatives without an integrated strategy. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze tourism marketing in Delta Lakkang. Data were collected through field observations using a tourism attraction checklist, in-depth interviews with stakeholders, and secondary sources from scientific publications and digital media. The qualitative design was chosen to capture the perspectives, experiences, and dynamics among various actors involved in tourism promotion and development. The results indicate major gaps in tourism marketing, including the absence of a master plan, limited use of digital promotion channels, unclear market segmentation, weak branding, and insufficient stakeholder coordination. Key barriers include limited funding, lack of human resource capacity, and minimal institutional support. To overcome these challenges, the study suggests formulating a comprehensive marketing strategy, strengthening destination branding, providing digital marketing training for local tourism groups (Pokdarwis), and enhancing collaboration among government, community, and private stakeholders. Positioned within the framework of urban maritime tourism, Delta Lakkang has strong potential to serve as an alternative destination in Makassar, enriching maritime tourism experiences beyond beaches and islands. Strengthening digital promotion and empowering local communities are considered crucial strategies for developing Delta Lakkang into a sustainable urban maritime tourism destination.

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) identify the tourism potential and components found in Wakatobi Regency, and 2) design a travel pattern that can serve as a reference for regional tourism development. A qualitative research method with a descriptive approach was employed, using data collection techniques such as observation and interviews. The findings indicate that the existence of the 5A+3S components (Accessibility, Accommodation, Attraction, Amenities, Activities, as well as Security, Safety, and Sanitation) has supported tourism development in Wakatobi. However, several challenges remain, including limited accessibility, inadequate supporting facilities, and a shortage of professional instructors in marine tourism activities. The proposed travel pattern is divided into five main clusters: single point, base site, stop over, chaining loop, and complex neighbourhood, with durations ranging from half-day and full-day trips to two-day-one-night and eight-day-four-night itineraries. This travel pattern is designed to accommodate tourist needs and preferences while serving as a guide for the Tourism Office and travel business operators in developing effective and competitive tour packages.

Abstract

Mangrove forests, with their unique ecological characteristics and biodiversity, hold significant potential for tourism development through activities such as tracking, flora and fauna observation, and educational tours. In Karimunjawa, a mangrove tracking attraction is located on Kemujan Island. The application of Sapta Pesona principles plays a crucial role in shaping visitor experiences, influencing tourist arrivals, and contributing to the welfare of local communities engaged in tourism. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Sapta Pesona in the Mangrove Tracking attraction. Employing a descriptive quantitative approach, data were collected through observation and interviews, and subsequently analyzed using a Likert-scale scoring technique. Findings indicate that the average scores for each Sapta Pesona element are as follows: safety (2.7/less), orderliness (3.5/sufficient), cleanliness (2.6/less), coolness (3.7/sufficient), beauty (3.3/sufficient), friendliness (2.7/less), and memorability (1.0/very poor). The overall average score of 2.7 falls within the “less” category. These results highlight the need for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to strengthen Sapta Pesona implementation, ensure environmental sustainability, and foster community engagement in delivering quality tourism experiences in the Mangrove Tracking area in Karimunjawa Island

Abstract

MICE has great potential as a driver of inclusive and sustainable economic growth, but the study is still limited. In fact, MICE is not just a tourism subsector, but a node of interaction between industries and regions. This study aims to measure the economic contribution of MICE domestic tourists to the Indonesian economy, both in terms of output, income, employment, and added value, as well as to evaluate sectoral linkages and spillover effects between regions. The methodology used is the Interregional Input-Output (IRIO) model, which tracks economic impacts sectorally and spatially. MICE travelers' spending is converted into a final demand vector, which is then used to calculate changes in output, income, labor, and added value at the provincial and sector levels. The results show that domestic MICE spending generated additional output of IDR 219.10 trillion, revenue of IDR 44.77 trillion, creation of 1.36 million jobs, and added value of IDR 122.75 trillion. The largest sectoral impact was felt in the accommodation, trade, land transportation, and food and beverage sectors. Spatially, provinces such as DKI Jakarta, East Java, and Bali received the greatest absolute benefits, while S.R. Yogyakarta, NTB, and Southeast Sulawesi recorded the highest percentage growth. These findings affirm the role of MICE as a lever for the national economy and a tool for regional equity. In conclusion, the MICE sector has demonstrated its role not only as a driver of economic growth but also as a catalyst for deeper regional economic integration. Recommendations include promoting policies that the impact of MICE is not only temporary, but also the foundation for inclusive and sustainable long-term economic growth.

Abstract

This study explores English as a Foreign Language (EFL) lecturers’ perception of the relevance of Industry-Based Learning (IBL) in teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) within the sustainable hospitality context. The background of this inquiry lies in the need to ensure that English instruction in tourism polytechnics not only delivers theoretical knowledge but also equips students with practical communicative competence required in professional hospitality settings. Employing a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with six informants, including five EFL lecturers from Makassar and Lombok Tourism Polytechnics and one hospitality industry representative. Thematic analysis was applied to identify recurring themes and patterns across the data. Findings reveal that EFL lecturers consistently perceive IBL as a highly relevant and effective pedagogical model for ESP. They emphasized that IBL bridges the gap between classroom-based instruction and authentic workplace communication, providing students with opportunities to internalize language use through real tasks such as interacting with international guests, writing reservation emails, and producing promotional content. Lecturers also highlighted that IBL enhances students’ motivation, confidence, and professional attitudes, which are essential for employability in the global hospitality industry. Importantly, the integration of sustainability-oriented tasks—such as explaining eco-friendly hotel policies—further strengthens the contextual relevance of ESP instruction by aligning linguistic learning with industry transformation. This research concludes that IBL holds significant relevance for ESP in sustainable hospitality, not only for improving linguistic competence but also for nurturing professional readiness and sustainability awareness. The findings contribute to theoretical discussions on experiential learning and task-based pedagogy, while offering practical insights for curriculum design in hospitality education.
