Abstract

Marine tourism in Parepare, such as Paputo Beach, Mattirotasi, Senggol, Lumpue, Cempae, Salo Karajae, and Tonrangeng, despite being popular tourist destinations, still faces waste pollution issues that disrupt the natural beauty and environmental sustainability. This is due to the community's low awareness of the importance of responsible waste management. This highlights the significance of the Sipakainge value in Bugis local wisdom as a sustainable effort to preserve marine tourism by involving community participation in maintaining the balance between resource utilization and environmental preservation. The method used in this study is a literature review by examining various literatures related to Bugis local wisdom, particularly the Sipakainge value, and the concept of marine tourism preservation. The data sources include books, journal articles, news reports, and relevant government reports from Parepare City. The data is then analyzed using content analysis techniques, focusing on how the Sipakainge concept can be applied as an environmental preservation strategy. The research findings show that the Sipakainge value, which contains the meaning of mutual reminders in solidarity, is an ethical and moral principle that has long been the foundation of Bugis social life. In the context of marine tourism preservation, this value becomes a key factor in maintaining the sustainability of coastal ecosystems. The Sipakainge value has strong relevance in supporting efforts to preserve marine tourism in Parepare City. It plays a role in encouraging the community to protect the coastal environment by strengthening collective awareness and social responsibility. This practice is reflected in Bugis traditions that respect the balance between resource utilization and environmental conservation. These values can be applied in managing marine tourism through environmentally friendly approaches and involving active participation from the local community. By instilling these values into tourism management practices, Parepare City can develop a tourism sector that not only benefits economically but also contributes to environmental preservation and long-term sustainability.

Abstract

In Pesisir Barat Regency, Lampung Province, marine tourism, particularly surfing, shows significant potential for development. Tanjung Setia Beach stands out as a major surfing destination due to its high and long waves. The successful organization of the World Surf League (WSL) Krui Pro 2022 in this area has increased its global appeal and attracted the interest of PT. Fres Indonesia Wisata as a travel agency. This prompted a study to explore surf tour package planning in Pesisir Barat Regency. The results showed that the preferred tourist attractions for surf packages include Tanjung Setia Beach, Mandiri Beach, Labuhan Jukung Beach, Melasti Beach, Pisang Island, and Batu Tihang. The region offers extensive accommodation, dining, transportation, entertainment and shopping facilities mostly located in the city area. Most of the tourists who come to surf are from Australia with a duration of stay ranging from five days to one month. Based on the findings, PT. Fres Indonesia Wisata is advised to consider three recommended tour packages: Krui Fun Surf For Beginner (5D4N), The Charm Of Krui (5D4N), and Exotic Krui Surf (7D6N). These packages correspond to identified needs and preferences, which have the potential to increase the attractiveness of the region as a surfing destination. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection methods in the form of documentation, interviews, and observation. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, with data validity secured through source triangulation. The study identified four important dimensions in the development of tour packages: Tourist Attractions, Travelers, Facilities, and Time

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the attractiveness and sustainability of surfing tourism in the Mentawai Islands. The research background focuses on the rapid growth of surfing tourism, which presents challenges in maintaining a balance between tourist appeal and environmental and social sustainability. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method, where data were collected through direct observation of surfing conditions and literature review. The analysis utilizes the Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) model to identify the development phases of surfing tourism and its impact on attractiveness and sustainability. The results show that the attractiveness of surfing tourism in the Mentawai Islands is influenced by natural beauty, supporting facilities, accessibility, and unique local culture. The consistent and high-quality waves at several spots, such as Macaronis, Hollow Trees, and Playgrounds, are the main attractions for surfers. However, the study also identifies significant challenges to sustainability due to environmental degradation and economic dependency on the tourism sector. According to the TALC analysis, the Mentawai Islands are currently in the development phase, requiring holistic and sustainable management to prevent a future decline in attractiveness.

Abstract

The allure of delving into ancient, submerged realms has catapulted underwater cultural heritage to prominence within the marine tourism sector. Among the coastal jewels of Sri Lanka, Galle stands out as a city steeped in historical significance, having functioned as a bustling harbour for generations. Beneath its waves lies an underwater museum of artifacts that hold the potential to redefine the tourism landscape of the city. This study ventures into the depths to explore how these sunken treasures could be harnessed to invigorate tourism in Galle. The primary aim is to unravel the role that underwater cultural heritage could play in shaping and enhancing the tourism narrative of Galle City. By evaluating Galle’s capacity to leverage this unique resource, the research seeks to determine how well the city is equipped to cater to this emerging niche and how it can turn its underwater assets into a vibrant tourism draw. To achieve this, the study employs a qualitative research methodology, drawing insights through semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders, including tourism service providers, maritime archaeologists, and museum officials. This approach allows for a nuanced understanding of the existing perceptions and potential of underwater heritage tourism. The data collected were subjected to rigorous content analysis, revealing several critical findings: the substantial underwater cultural heritage assets of the Galle City, the growing interest among tourists in these submerged artifacts, and the current shortcomings in managing and promoting these resources effectively. The findings of the study suggest that an integrated approach—one that intertwines tourism development with the preservation and promotion of underwater heritage—could create a symbiotic relationship. Such a strategy promises to not only enhance the appeal of Galle as a tourist destination but also ensure the sustainable management of its underwater cultural treasures. By fostering this harmony, both the tourism sector and the heritage assets can thrive, enriching the historical and economic landscape of the Galle City

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of perceptions of accessibility to tourism on the prestige motivation of visitors to Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, categorizing accessibility into physical and non-physical. This research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing multiple regression statistical analysis to explore the relationship between independent and dependent variables. 200 samples were obtained through a questionnaire distributed to Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park visitors who had visited at least once. The collected data were subsequently analyzed using multiple linear regression testing. The findings of this study reveal that: 1) perceptions of both physical and non-physical accessibility simultaneously influence the prestige motivation of visitors to Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park; 2) perceptions of physical accessibility, when analyzed separately, do not have an impact on prestige motivation, while perceptions of non-physical accessibility do have a significant effect; 3) the combined influence of perceptions of physical and non-physical accessibility on prestige motivation is relatively low, accounting for only 15.7%, while the remaining 84.3% is influenced by other variables not addressed in this study. This research recommends that future studies expand on the concepts of physical and non-physical accessibility by incorporating additional indicators based on other tourism theories.

Abstract

Museums play a pivotal role in the tourism industry, offering cultural and educational experiences to visitors. To remain competitive, museums must develop distinctive landscape and facility designs that enhance their appeal as tourist destinations. This research focuses on Rahmat International Wildlife Museum and Gallery, a private museum in Indonesia, aiming to improve its landscape and facility design to create a more captivating visitor experience. Using Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Regulation No. 4 of 2021 as a benchmark, the study evaluates Rahmat Museum's compliance with business standards for private museums. The research adopts a qualitative approach, including in-depth interviews, direct observations, and a literature review. Findings indicate that the museum excels in visitor convenience, hygiene, and engagement but requires improvements in waste management, community involvement, and physical accessibility. To enhance Rahmat Museum's landscape and facility design, the study proposes three key enhancements: an accessibility ramp, an accessible toilet, and separate waste storage. These recommendations aim to ensure inclusivity, convenience, and environmental sustainability. Implementing these proposals is expected to address non-compliance issues and elevate Rahmat International Wildlife Museum and Gallery's status as a premier tourist destination. This research offers valuable insights for other private museums seeking to enhance their landscape and facility designs to attract visitors and ensure business sustainability
