Abstract

This study aims to understand and identify the actual conditions regarding the experiences and perceptions of tourists related to Tanjung Bayang Beach as a marine tourism destination and to provide strategies for strengthening its positive image. This research employs a qualitative method conducted at Tanjung Bayang Beach, Makassar City, from August to October 2025. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five tourists in September 2025. The results show that the majority of tourists learned about Tanjung Bayang Beach from family and close friends, highlighting the importance of social networks and word-of-mouth in promoting the destination. However, regarding the assessment of beach cleanliness, the majority consensus was that the condition is still inadequate, making it an aspect that requires serious attention from the management. The quality of facilities and services received varied assessments, ranging from average to good, while the overall tourist attraction met visitors' expectations. The hospitality of the management and local community received excellent evaluations, becoming a positive strength of the destination. Therefore, it can be said that Tanjung Bayang Beach has become a favorite tourist destination for some tourists, allowing it to be developed further to provide greater benefits for the management and local communities involved. Strategies to achieve this include strengthening routine and structured beach cleanliness management programs, involving local communities and visitors in education and shared responsibility, which can enhance the destination's image. Additionally, improving service quality and facilities by providing friendly and responsive services, engaging all stakeholders in sustainable tourism resource management, and organizing cultural and sports events that involve local communities to attract more tourists and increase destination exposure. The results of this study indicate that strengthening the positive image of Tanjung Bayang Beach is highly dependent on the synergy between improving service quality, sustainable environmental management, and the active role of local communities as key players in tourism development. A pentahelix approach involving government, businesses, communities, academia, and media is essential to achieve sustainable and competitive destination development.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of stakeholders in managing Tanjung Bayang Beach, to identify the level of collaboration and cooperation among stakeholder elements, and to examine the challenges and opportunities in implementing the stakeholder model at this tourist attraction. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct field observations, and supporting documentation. The data were then thematically analyzed to illustrate the involvement, synergy, and role dynamics of various stakeholders, namely the government, local communities, business actors, academics, and the media, supporting tourism destination development. The findings reveal that each stakeholder has played a relatively effective role. The government focuses on providing regulations and developing infrastructure, and local communities are involved through tourism awareness groups. Business actors contribute by offering services and tourism activities, academics support through research and training, while the media plays a role in promoting and building the attraction’s image. The overall cooperation level among these parties is generally positive; however, several weaknesses persist, including limited coordination, funding constraints, and inadequate environmental awareness among some visitors. Furthermore, the research identified several challenges that require attention, including potential conflicts of interest, limited resources, and weak engagement management discipline. Despite these challenges, considerable opportunities exist, such as local economic development, human resource capacity building, and the utilization of information technology for promotion and destination management. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the success of developing Tanjung Bayang Beach is strongly influenced by inclusive and adaptive cross-sector synergy. Therefore, this study recommends strengthening communication among stakeholders, enhancing stakeholder capacity, and implementing sustainable financing mechanisms. If these efforts are realized, Tanjung Bayang Beach has the potential to develop into a sustainable marine tourism attraction that not only contributes to the local economy but also preserves the coastal environment.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate an effective strategy for the development of Anging Mammiri Beach in Makassar City, focusing on harnessing the potential of natural resources and enhancing the role of local communities and related stakeholders. The method employed is qualitative research, with data collection conducted through in-depth interviews with local communities, business actors, and the local government, which took place in 2025. The results of the study identified that Anging Mammiri Beach still lacks cooperation between stakeholders, including the government, local communities, academics, and the still minimal role of local communities living around the beach. This study found that the local community is the primary manager of Anging Mammiri Beach; however, there is still very little involvement and a lack of concern for its potential. Recommended strategies include increased collaboration between stakeholders, the development of environmentally friendly infrastructure, social media-based digital marketing to attract tourists, and strengthening the empowerment of local human resources in tourism management. The development of Anging Mamiri Beach must prioritize an integrated approach that combines economic, social, and environmental aspects in a sustainable manner. The recommendations in this strategy can enhance tourist appeal, increase the number of visits, provide economic benefits for the surrounding community, and help preserve the coastal environment for the benefit of future generations. The role of the government is also needed to carry out operational and collaborative efforts to optimize the management and development of Anging Mamiri Beach. Furthermore, there is a need for consensus among the local community, government, academics, and stakeholders to develop an appropriate strategy for this beach. With good collaboration between stakeholders, the development strategy for Anging Mamiri Beach can be precisely targeted, increasing the number of tourist visits and enabling it to compete with other beaches.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level off awereness of local communities and tourist and identify the role of local communities as stakeholders. Tourism awareness is a crucial factor in maintaining destination sustainability. This research focuses on the level of awareness among local communities and tourists at Tanjung Bayang Beach, Makassar. Despite its attractive natural and cultural potential, it still faces challenges related to cleanliness, community participation, and limited supporting facilities. The research objective is to analyze the current state of tourism awareness and provide recommendations for sustainability-based management strategies. The research method used a qualitative approach with case studies, through direct observation, interviews, and on-site documentation. Data were analyzed using a SWOT analysis to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats influencing the development of tourism awareness. The results indicate that the main strengths lie in the potential of natural attractions, local cultural support, and the community's spirit of mutual cooperation. However, weaknesses remain, such as limited understanding of tourism potential among some residents, tourists' lack of environmental awareness, and a lack of basic facilities. Opportunities, however, arise through the use of social media, government programs, and increased tourist interest. Threats include environmental damage, conflicts of interest, and inadequate management regulations. The conclusion of this study confirms that increasing tourism awareness must be a collaborative effort between the community, tourists, managers, and the government. Recommendations include improving tourism awareness education, providing supporting facilities, and strengthening the role of local communities as key stakeholders. Thus, tourism at Tanjung Bayang Beach has the potential to develop sustainably without sacrificing environmental sustainability or local cultural values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of community participation in the management of Leang-leang and propose efforts to optimize community participation in Leang-leang. This study applies a qualitative method conducted in Leang-Leang, Maros Regency, during the period of September-October 2025, through field observations, in-depth interviews with the surrounding community, and supported by literature studies. The results of the study show that the community plays an important role in three main aspects: (1) environmental and prehistoric site preservation, through cleanliness activities, monitoring potential vandalism, and passing on knowledge about the cultural values of Leang-Leang to the younger generation; (2) local economic development, by utilizing business opportunities such as tour guides, providing local cuisine, and selling handicrafts with a prehistoric cultural nuance; and (3) collaboration with the government and management, especially in developing tourism infrastructure, improving service quality, and conservation education programs for tourists. To that end, optimization measures are needed in the form of capacity building through training, the formation of tourism awareness groups (Pokdarwis) oriented towards conservation, and the strengthening of collaboration between the government, site managers, academics, and local communities. These recommendations are expected to encourage more sustainable, community-based management of Leang-Leang while preserving its inherent cultural values. However, this study also found challenges, namely limited human resource capacity, a lack of tourism training, and suboptimal distribution of economic benefits to all levels of society. Therefore, a strategy is needed to strengthen community participation through community-based training programs, creative economic empowerment, and increasing tourist awareness of the importance of preserving the sustainability of prehistoric sites. In conclusion, the management of Leang-Leang cannot rely solely on the government or formal management, but must place the community as the main actor in creating sustainable tourism. This study's recommendations emphasize the need for multi-stakeholder collaboration based on community-based tourism (CBT) so that Leang-Leang remains preserved as a world cultural heritage while providing tangible benefits for the welfare of the local community.

Abstract

Tourism in coastal destinations often embodies the tension between global influences and local realities. This paper explores the sustainable transformation of marine tourism in Bira, Bulukumba, one of Indonesia’s prominent coastal resorts. The study investigates how global sustainability frameworks intersect with local community practices and how these dynamics shape the pathways toward responsible tourism development. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research employs in-depth interviews with stakeholders, field observations, and secondary data analysis. Findings reveal that global sustainability discourses—such as regenerative tourism, eco-certifications, and international market demands—have gradually influenced the operational models of Bira’s resorts. At the same time, local communities emphasize cultural preservation, livelihoods, and traditional marine practices. The intersection of these perspectives has generated both opportunities and challenges: while eco-friendly initiatives and community-based tourism programs have emerged, issues of waste management, resource conflicts, and cultural commodification remain significant obstacles. The study concludes that Bira stands at a critical crossroads where global sustainability goals and local identity must be harmonized. The paper recommends collaborative governance, capacity building for local stakeholders, and integrated coastal management to ensure tourism contributes positively to ecological resilience and community well-being.
