Abstract

Background: Conflicts often arise in village development when communication among stakeholders is lacking transparency and community participation is limited. This situation can hinder the achievement of sustainable and inclusive development. Aims: This study aims to analyze the dynamics of conflict in the construction of a telecommunication tower in Tegowanu Kulon Village, identify the root causes and forms of conflict, and explore conflict resolution efforts undertaken by the relevant parties. Methods: This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using Braun and Clarke's thematic method through the stages of familiarization, coding, theme identification, review, definition, and reporting. Results: The results of the study indicate that conflicts arise due to a lack of socialization, differing interests, and community concerns about the negative impacts of tower construction. The forms of conflict that emerge include protests, rejection, and the submission of petitions. Conflict resolution is carried out through mediation involving the village and district governments, using peace-making, peace-keeping, and peace-building strategies. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the importance of transparent communication, active community participation, and trust-building among parties in conflict resolution. Effective conflict management at the village level not only stops disputes but also transforms social relations toward more inclusive and sustainable development.

Abstract

Background: Ancient manuscripts are cultural heritage that contain various important information about history, religion, customs, and knowledge of the past. The collection of ancient manuscripts stored at the Aceh Museum holds immense value, both as a source of learning and research. However, the effectiveness and depth of their utilization by students remain questionable. Objectives: This study aims to determine how students of the Islamic Cultural History Program at UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh utilize ancient manuscripts at the Aceh Museum, as well as to identify the factors that influence, the challenges faced, and the forms of utilization carried out. Methods: The study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Participants include 15 students and 5 museum staff members from the Aceh Museum, selected through simple random sampling. Data was collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed qualitatively through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Result: The results of the study indicate that students utilize ancient manuscripts primarily in an academic context to fulfill assignments for courses in Philology and Ancient Manuscript Studies. Internal factors influencing utilization include academic needs, interest, and motivation, while external factors include the completeness of the collection, librarian services, and faculty support. The main challenges faced by students are limited ability to read ancient scripts and the scarcity of available transliterations. Conclusion: The utilization of ancient manuscripts by students is already underway but remains limited to practical academic purposes. To optimize their use, additional strategies are needed, including literacy training, digitization of collections, and the integration of manuscript-based learning to enable deeper and more sustainable utilization of ancient manuscripts.

Abstract

Background: Religious traditions that have developed within Indonesian society reflect the integration of local cultural values with Islamic teachings. One such tradition is the house cleansing ritual in Beringin Jaya Village, Baebunta Selatan Sub-district, Luwu Utara Regency, which is understood as a spiritual means to ward off misfortune, dispel negative energy, and seek blessings. This phenomenon demonstrates how the Qur’an is brought to life in daily practices, making it relevant to be examined through the Living Qur’an approach. Aims: This study aims to analyze the process of traditional house cleaning based on Arnold Van Gennep's rites of passage theory and describe the community's perceptions of the meaning and function of this tradition in their spiritual and social lives. Methods: The study employs a qualitative method with a field research design. Primary data was collected through observation, interviews with six key informants, and documentation, while secondary data was obtained from relevant literature. Data validity was ensured through triangulation techniques, and analysis was conducted using a descriptive-analytical approach, linking the findings to Van Gennep's theory. Result: The results of the study indicate that the traditional house cleansing ritual is divided into three stages: separation, transition, and incorporation. Reciting verses from the Qur'an, such as Surah al-Fātiḥah, Ayat al-Kursi, Surah Al-Falaq, and An-Nas, serves as a means of purifying the house, warding off evil, and calming the soul. The community's perception of this tradition is very positive, as it is believed to revitalize the house, strengthen social bonds, and foster spiritual peace. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that the traditional house cleansing ritual is divided into three stages, namely separation, transition, and incorporation. Reciting verses from the Qur’an, such as Surah al-Fātiḥah, Ayat al-Kursi, Surah Al-Falaq, and An-Nas, serves as a means of purifying the house, warding off evil, and calming the soul. The community’s perception of this tradition is very positive, as it is believed to revitalize the house, strengthen social bonds, and foster spiritual peace.

Abstract

Background: The conflict in the Papua Mountains is a strategic national issue involving political, security, social, and human rights aspects. During Joko Widodo's administration from 2019 to 2024, Papua has been one of the national development priorities, but various reports indicate that violence and human rights violations against civilians continue to occur. Aims: This study aims to analyze the implementation of human rights principles in government policies related to conflict management in the Papua Mountains during Joko Widodo's administration from 2019 to 2024, as well as to identify the extent to which these policies are consistent with the principles of justice and conflict resolution. Methods: This research uses a qualitative approach with a normative legal research method. Data was collected through a literature review of legislation, policy documents, reports from national and international human rights institutions, and relevant academic literature. The analysis was conducted using a descriptive-qualitative method by comparing legal norms and human rights principles with policy practices in the field. Results: The results of the study indicate that the government has issued several important policies, namely the establishment of the Papua Pegunungan Province, the deployment of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the implementation of Limited Military Operations, and the acceleration of infrastructure and socio-economic development. These policies have contributed to security stability and improved community welfare. However, their implementation has raised various issues, including human rights violations against civilians, forced displacement, and regional development disparities. Conclusion: Conflict management in Papua Pegunungan during the 2019–2024 period demonstrates the state's commitment to ensuring security and development, but the implementation of human rights principles remains partial. A more humane, participatory, and equitable approach is needed to achieve sustainable conflict resolution in accordance with human rights principles and social justice

Abstract

Background: Religious conflicts between Sunni Muslims and Ahmadis in Indonesia have been ongoing for a long time and often lead to tension and discrimination. Sindang Barang, Bogor City, is an area of interest for study because it has been able to minimize conflicts through the involvement of various parties, particularly civil society organizations. Aims: This study aims to explain the role of civil society, particularly Nahdlatul Ulama, Ansharullah, and Khudamul Ahmadiyah, in resolving the Sunni-Ahmadiyah conflict in Sindang Barang. In addition, this study also analyzes the factors that support the creation of social harmony in the region. Methods: The study employs a qualitative approach using descriptive-analytical methods. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with NU leaders, Ahmadiyah leaders, GP Ansor members, and local residents, supplemented by documentation and literature review. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions by referring to civil society theory (Muhammad A.S. Hikam), direct relations and family theory (Clifford Geertz), and conflict resolution theory (Amin Abdullah). Result: The results of the study indicate that conflict resolution in Sindang Barang was successful due to the active role of civil society in establishing dialogue, organizing joint social activities, and strengthening direct ties and kinship among residents. The principle of Love for All, Hatred for None upheld by the Ahmadiyya community also strengthened social acceptance and tolerance among the Sunni community. Conclusion: This study concludes that civil society involvement plays a crucial role in maintaining religious harmony amid differences in beliefs. These findings show that civil society-based conflict resolution can be an effective alternative model for reducing potential intolerance in Indonesia, while complementing the limitations of the state's role in protecting the civil rights of minority groups.

Abstract

Background:Philosophy, science, and ethics are three essential pillars of the Islamic intellectual tradition. However, in modern practice, a disconnect between science and ethics often occurs, giving rise to various moral deviations. Al-Ghazali's thought offers an integrative framework that combines rationality, spirituality, and morality as the foundation for developing knowledgeable and moral individuals. Aims:This study aims to analyze the role of philosophy in the formation of science and ethics according to an Islamic perspective based on Al-Ghazali's thoughts, and to explain how the integration of the two can be a solution to contemporary ethical problems. Methods:The study employed a qualitative design with a library research approach. Data were obtained through analysis of Al-Ghazali's works and relevant classical and contemporary literature, then analyzed using content analysis methods. Result:The research results show that philosophy plays a crucial role in guiding reason to understand the truth through a proper scientific process, while simultaneously strengthening ethics as a moral foundation. Al-Ghazali accepted aspects of philosophy that were in harmony with Islam, particularly logic, epistemology, and morality, while rejecting those that contradicted his creed. The integration of philosophy, science, and ethics is reflected in his works such as Ihya' Ulumuddin and Al-Munqidz min al-Dhalal. Conclusion:Al-Ghazali's thinking asserts that knowledge without ethics is empty, while ethics without knowledge is unsound. Philosophy serves as a bridge to harmonize the two through the integration of reason and revelation, thus serving as a foundation for educational development and character formation in the modern era.

Abstract

Background:The tradition of memorizing hadith is an essential part of maintaining the purity of Islamic teachings. However, in many Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), hadith memorization programs are not as popular as Quran memorization, requiring a systematic learning strategy to maintain the tradition's sustainability. Al-Aqobah 4 Islamic Boarding School in Jombang is one institution that consistently promotes hadith memorization programs through a structured approach. Aims:This study aims to analyze the strategies implemented by Islamic boarding school administrators in creating hadith memorizers, describe the strategies of students in memorizing and maintaining memorization, and identify supporting and inhibiting factors in the implementation of the hadith memorization program. Methods:The research used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Participants included Islamic boarding school administrators, accompanying religious teachers (ustadz/ustadzah), and students participating in the One Day One Hadith Five Verses program. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Result:The research results show that the tutors' strategies include daily memorization, understanding the meaning of hadith, structured repetition (takrir), talaqqi (recitation), and periodic evaluation. Students use various techniques such as understanding the context of hadith, rewriting, and conducting independent and group murojaah (recitation). Supporting factors include a conducive Islamic boarding school environment and intensive mentoring, while barriers include limited time, differences in memorization abilities, and a tendency to forget. Conclusion:The strategy implemented at Al-Aqobah 4 Islamic Boarding School has proven effective in developing hadith memorizers who not only master the text but also understand its meaning. This research emphasizes the importance of structured and sustainable learning management in hadith memorization programs and opens up opportunities for developing similar models at other Islamic educational institutions.
