Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the role of agricultural extension workers in rice cultivation. The population of this study is comprised of all rice farmers residing in Tawamelewe Village, constituting a total sample size of 300 individuals. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with a margin of error of 15%, resulting in a sample size of 38 people. The sampling process was executed through the utilization of simple random sampling. The data presented herein was collected through a combination of interviews, documentation, and surveys with questionnaires. The independent variables in this study were the role of agricultural extension workers and rice cultivation. The research data was analyzed using two methods: descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The results of the study indicate that the role of agricultural extension workers in Tawamelewe Village, Uepai District, Konawe Regency, is in the high category, reflecting that extension workers have performed their functions optimally as facilitators, motivators, innovators, and educators. On the other hand, rice cultivation by farmers in the village is in the good category, indicating that all stages of cultivation, from land preparation to harvest and post-harvest, have been carried out appropriately. Through data analysis using the Sperman Rank test, a correlation coefficient value of 1.000 with a significance level of 0.001 was obtained, indicating a very strong and significant relationship between the role of agricultural extension workers and the success of rice cultivation. The perfect correlation between the role of extension workers and the quality of rice cultivation underscores the importance of optimizing the role of agricultural extension workers as the key to the success of a sustainable cultivation system, and provides a scientific basis for strengthening extension institutions at the village level to enhance overall agricultural productivity.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of impaired child growth, characterized by an abnormal height for their age. This is generally caused by chronic malnutrition and repeated infections during the early period of life, especially in the first 1,000 days. This condition not only affects the physical but also the development of children's thinking and learning abilities which have the potential to affect their learning and productive capacity later. Stunting can also be defined as a condition where toddlers experience obstacles in physical growth due to long-term malnutrition, which results in children being shorter than children of the same age. Stunting is the development of the brain and intelligence of children. Apart from malnutrition, environmental factors and unhealthy food and lack of attention or family support for children's health are the causes of stunting. Stunting can be anticipated if a healthy environment and parental attention to the growth and development of children's activities are always maintained. Becoming one of the factors in overcoming stunting.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the influence of social capital on the performance of rice farming in Punggaluku Village, Laeya District, South Konawe Regency. The research population consists of all rice farmers in Punggaluku Village, with a total of 140 individuals. The determination of the sample size for this study was made using the Slovin formula, with a margin of error set at 10%. Therefore, the sample size was determined to be 58 respondents. The sampling method employed was a simple random sampling technique. The data presented herein was collected through a variety of research techniques, including in-depth interviews, meticulous documentation analysis, a thorough review of existing literature, and the administration of surveys. The research variables consisted of exogenous variables (social capital) and endogenous variables (farming performance). The collected data underwent a dual analytical process, comprising a preliminary descriptive statistical evaluation, followed by an inferential statistical examination. The results of the study indicate that social capital, particularly social norms and networks, is well established among the community involved in rice farming. Most farmers actively practice social norms and networks, such as attending farmer group meetings and complying with cultivation rules, as well as building strong networks through easy access to information, both from fellow farmers and external institutions. Meanwhile, the aspect of trust is considered adequate, indicating room for improvement in mutual trust among group members and extension workers. The performance of rice farming, as measured by the quantity and quality of farmers' work, has been carried out well, while timeliness remains in the adequate category. Social capital has a positive and significant impact on farming performance, as indicated by the simple linear regression coefficient (β = 1.049). Social capital, as a non-material resource comprising norms, networks, and trust, has a tangible impact on the productivity and effectiveness of farming.

Abstract

In contexts characterized by constrained family economic circumstances, domestic workers often engage in coconut oil processing as a strategy to augment family income. The objective of this study is to ascertain the role of housewives in the coconut oil processing industry in Lahaji Village, Napano Kusambi District, West Muna Regency. The population of this study comprised ten coconut oil processors from Lahaji Village. The research sample was determined using census techniques. The focal point of this study is the role of housewives in the processing of coconut oil. The data presented herein was collected through a combination of observation, documentation, and interviews conducted using a structured interview technique. The data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method that was processed in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that housewives in Lahaji Village play a dominant role in the entire coconut oil processing chain, particularly in the processing, packaging, and marketing stages, with active involvement from determining the amount of raw materials, grating, pressing, cooking coconut milk, to filling packaging and selling. However, during the raw material preparation stage, such as collecting and transporting coconuts, their role tends to be passive, reflecting a gender-based division of labor. The active, passive, and participatory roles of housewives at each stage of coconut oil production reveal the potential for increasing women's involvement in technical aspects that have traditionally been dominated by men.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the business capital and capabilities of farmers in cultivating lettuce at Nuri Horti Hydroponics and Faperta Hydroponics in Kendari City. The informants in this study consisted of hydroponic business owners and farmers working at hydroponic business locations. The selection of informants was conducted using purposive sampling techniques, with the objective of identifying individuals who met specific criteria. This process resulted in a total of four research informants. The data presented herein was collected through a meticulous combination of observational studies, detailed documentation, and in-depth interviews conducted within a structured interview framework. The present study concentrated on the following subjects: business capital, farmers' capabilities, and hydroponic lettuce cultivation. The data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods. The results of the study indicate that the success of hydroponic lettuce cultivation at the two locations, namely Nuri Horti Hydroponics and Faperta Hydroponics, is supported by business capital sourced from personal savings and adequate technical and managerial skills of the farmers. Despite initial capital constraints, both business operators were able to manage the purchase of equipment and materials gradually and efficiently. From a technical perspective, farmers possess good knowledge and skills related to hydroponic systems, cultivation stages, and plant nutritional requirements, acquired through experience and self-directed training. Managerially, although they have not adopted modern management concepts, farmers have implemented simple yet effective planning, resource allocation, and business oversight. There are differences in cultivation approaches between the two locations: Nuri Horti Hydroponics directly transfers seedlings to the installation after germination, while Faperta Hydroponics uses a step-by-step process. These differences reflect the adaptation of methods based on the conditions and experiences of each entrepreneur. Hydroponic cultivation practices can succeed and develop even when conducted independently and with limited capital, provided that the operators possess sufficient technical skills and basic managerial capabilities. The adjustments made to cultivation methods based on individual experiences demonstrate the flexibility of the hydroponic system, which continues to prioritize principles of efficiency and sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the potential for developing kenikir cultivation in Kendari City through a financial feasibility approach to kenikir cultivation by comparing two treatments, namely the use of bokashi fertilizer and no fertilizer use. The method used is a quantitative descriptive approach, with primary data collected through direct observation of production cost components and crop yields. The analysis was carried out by calculating the total production costs, income, and R/C ratio as indicators of business efficiency. The results show that kenikir cultivation without fertilizer produces an R/C ratio of 1.24 with total costs of IDR 12, 128,000 and income of IDR 15,060,000, while the use of bokashi fertilizer resulted in an R/C ratio of 1.44 with total costs of IDR 19,128,000 and income of IDR 27,480,000. These results show that both treatments are financially feasible (R/C>1), but the treatment with bokashi fertilizer is more efficient and profitable. The conclusion of this study is that kenikir cultivation using bokashi fertilizer is more financially efficient and feasible to develop, and has the potential to support local food security and increase farmers' income in urban areas.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the implementation of social capital elements among women fishermen in Lapulu Village. The research population consists of all women fishermen who are members of women fishermen groups in Lapulu Village, with a total sample size of 30 individuals. The sample was determined using a census method. The data were collected through a variety of methods, including in-depth interviews, documentation analysis, a review of existing literature, and the administration of surveys. The variables in this study were social capital, defined as a multifaceted concept encompassing trust, social norms, and networks. The collected data were then subjected to a quantitative statistical analysis, employing descriptive statistical analysis methods. The results of the study indicate that the application of social capital among women fishermen in Lapulu Village is in the good category, with a dominance in the dimension of trust (83%), followed by social norms (70%), and social networks (43%). The elevated level of trust fosters cooperation, information disclosure, and solidarity among members. The concept of social norms is exemplified by the adherence to group rules and cultural practices, such as the act of praying prior to engaging in business activities. Concurrently, constrained access to technology and inadequate educational attainment contribute to suboptimal utilization of social networks. The elements of social capital are effectively implemented by combining the local wisdom of the fishing community with digital literacy, which can serve as a key to enhancing the sustainable empowerment of female fishermen.
