Abstract

Objectives: Sepak takraw is a traditional Southeast Asian sport that combines elements of soccer and volleyball, requiring high levels of flexibility, agility, and coordination. Despite its growing popularity, limited research exists on injury patterns and their relationship with training variables among sepak takraw players. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 210 sepak takraw players from seven clubs in Medan City, Indonesia. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and injury assessment forms over a 12-month period. Training patterns, rest duration, and injury severity were analyzed using quantitative methods. Results: The study revealed that 68.5% of participants experienced at least one injury during the observation period. Lower extremity injuries were most common (72.3%), followed by upper extremity injuries (18.9%). Players with inadequate rest periods (<48 hours between intensive training sessions) showed significantly higher injury rates (p<0.001). Training frequency exceeding 5 sessions per week was associated with increased injury severity (OR=2.34, 95% CI: 1.45-3.78). Conclusion: Training patterns and rest duration significantly influence injury occurrence and severity in sepak takraw players. Implementing structured rest periods and optimized training schedules may reduce injury risk and enhance player safety.

Abstract

Objectives: This literature review aims to examine the current status, challenges, and opportunities for women in coaching and sports management positions, synthesizing existing research to identify barriers and potential strategies for advancement. Methods: A systematic review of literature published between 2012 and 2025 was conducted using electronic databases including ResearchGate, ScienceDirect, Taylor & Francis Online, and PubMed. Articles were selected based on relevance to women in coaching and sports management roles, with particular focus on barriers, supports, and advancement strategies. LaVoi and Dutove's ecological model was used as a primary framework for analysis. Results: Despite increased participation of women in sports and sports education programs, women remain significantly underrepresented in coaching and leadership positions across all levels of sport. Women held only 65 of 382 athletic director, commissioner, or other top leadership roles at Division 1 NCAA institutions in 2023. The research identifies multilevel barriers that include organizational factors (inconsistent hiring practices, hypermasculine sport culture), interpersonal factors (lack of mentoring, limited networking opportunities), and individual factors (work-life balance challenges, confidence issues). Successful advancement strategies include mentorship, sponsorship, networking, and building diverse career portfolios. Conclusion: Women in coaching and sports management face persistent barriers embedded in gendered institutional practices. Interventions at multiple ecological levels are required to achieve equity, with organizational change being particularly critical. Formal mentoring programs, intentional networking opportunities, and challenging gendered organizational cultures can create pathways for women's advancement in sports leadership.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aimed to examine the contribution of leg muscle power and eye-foot coordination to shooting skills among athletes of UIR Soccer School (USS) Club Under 17. Materials and methods: This study adopted a correlational research design using multiple correlation analysis. The population and sample comprised 15 male athletes of USS Under 17, recruited through total sampling. Data were collected using the Standing Long Jump Test for leg muscle power, the Eye-Foot Coordination Test (Winarno, 2006), and the Shooting at the Ball Test. Pearson product-moment correlation and multiple correlation coefficients were computed using standard statistical formulas. Results: Results revealed that: (1) leg muscle power contributed 62.41% to shooting skills (r = 0.79 > rₜₐᵇₗₑ = 0.514); (2) eye-foot coordination contributed 42.25% (r = 0.65 > 0.514); (3) the combined contribution of leg muscle power and eye-foot coordination to shooting skills was 44.89% (R = 0.67 > 0.514). Conclusions: Both leg muscle power and eye-foot coordination significantly contribute to shooting performance in youth soccer players. Training programs should prioritize explosive strength and eye-foot coordination exercises to enhance shooting effectiveness.

Abstract

Objectives: This community service aimed to implement an integrated sports approach within social service activities in Mabar Hilir Sub-district, Medan City. Methods: The program addressed the interrelated issues of low physical activity, limited social interaction, and minimal health awareness among residents. Using a participatory approach, this initiative combined sports activities with health education and community development. Results: The six-month program involved 235 participants across different age groups and demonstrated significant improvements in health awareness (37% increase), regular physical activity participation (42% increase), and community cohesion (65% of participants reported stronger social bonds). Implementation challenges included initial participation hesitancy, infrastructure limitations, and scheduling conflicts, which were addressed through adaptive strategies. Conclusion: The successful integration of sports into social services provides a replicable model for holistic community development in similar urban settings.
