Abstract

Increasing the Cropping Index (CI) is a strategy to improve agricultural productivity by optimizing available water resources without expanding cultivated areas. However, increasing CI depends not only on water availability but also on the capacity of irrigation networks to convey and distribute water effectively. This study aims to evaluate the irrigation water balance as a basis for increasing the Cropping Index and developing irrigation infrastructure in Gedung Karya Jitu Village, Tulang Bawang Regency, Lampung Province. The research method involved comparing irrigation water availability and requirements for each planting period, evaluating the existing cropping pattern, and analyzing the hydraulic capacity of irrigation channels to determine infrastructure development needs. The results show that water availability is sufficient to serve 499 ha of agricultural land, with an average discharge of 41.89 m³/s compared with an average irrigation water requirement of 0.45 m³/s. The water balance remains in surplus throughout the year, with an average surplus of 41.44 m³/s. The existing Rice–Rice–Fallow cropping pattern with a CI of 150% remains feasible and has the potential to increase to 250%. However, unnormalized channels and tidal-induced backwater may reduce conveyance capacity. Channel normalization provides a conveyance capacity of 1.36–2.20 m³/s with an average velocity of 0.52 m/s. Therefore, irrigation infrastructure development through channel normalization and improvement of hydraulic structures is required to support a sustainable increase in the Cropping Index.

Abstract

Airports must maintain operational continuity while responding to changing demand and environmental conditions. This study assesses the operational readiness and resilience context of Djalaluddin Gorontalo Airport following infrastructure expansion by examining the interaction between exceptional aircraft demand, operational complexity, and historical weather exposure. A transportation system-of-systems perspective was applied using descriptive statistics, sample standard deviation, Z-score standardization, circular analysis of wind direction, and a Demand Amplification Ratio (DAR). The empirical assessment focused on 16 private/VIP aircraft movements during PENAS XVII 2026, comprising eight arrivals and eight departures, and historical weather conditions during June 2021–2025. The results show a DAR of 1.78, indicating that the recorded private/VIP aircraft activity was 1.78 times the routine scheduled-operation baseline used for the three-day comparison. The movements also extended across a longer operating period and involved diverse aircraft types, indicating increased operational complexity. Historical weather analysis showed that rainfall had the greatest variability, while relative humidity and wind speed were comparatively consistent, with no exceptionally anomalous June observation identified through Z-score analysis. The findings indicate that airport resilience should consider not only disruption and recovery but also the ability to adapt to exceptional operational demand under environmental variability. The study provides an evidence-based basis for strengthening operational readiness planning at regional airports.

Abstract

Weather-related hazards can affect airport operations, particularly through heavy rainfall and strong winds that may increase pressure on airside infrastructure and operational management. This study assesses the operational resilience of Djalaluddin Gorontalo Airport under weather-related hazards using a risk-informed and data-proportionate approach. Historical meteorological observations from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency for 2021–2025 were analyzed descriptively, covering rainfall, relative humidity, average wind speed, and wind direction corresponding to the maximum recorded wind speed. The results show substantial variability in rainfall, with the highest annual total of 2,287 mm in 2021 and the highest monthly rainfall of 405 mm in November 2021. The highest recorded monthly wind speed reached 30 knots in April 2022, while wind directions corresponding to the maximum recorded wind speed were predominantly from the north (37.5%) and south (25.0%) during 2022–2025, indicating potential relevance to crosswind exposure for the east–west oriented Runway 09/27. Relative humidity remained generally high but was considered a supporting environmental condition rather than an independent operational hazard. Overall, rainfall and wind represent the principal weather-related exposure pathways, while airport resilience depends on the interaction between weather exposure, infrastructure vulnerability, and adaptive capacity. The findings provide an engineering basis for strengthening weather monitoring, drainage and surface-condition management, wind-aware operational planning, and preparedness at regional airports.

Abstract

A major issue that frequently arises in low-income housing is the lack of community infrastructure and social facilities. This problem is also influenced by residents’ limited financial capacity to obtain homes with complete and adequate community infrastructure and social facilities, as well as a mismatch between residents’ needs and the design of low-income housing. On the other hand, community infrastructure—particularly neighborhood roads and social housing facilities—constitutes the spaces where residents can engage in shared activities. Resident interaction is crucial for maintaining unity and a sense of community among residents in order to achieve shared goals within their living environment. This study employs a collaborative approach between the fields of architecture and psychology. Data on residents’ behavior and interactive activities were collected through surveys and interviews. The architectural approach involved identifying spaces within the study site to document the availability of neighborhood infrastructure in the housing complex. An analysis of the use of neighborhood streets and housing social facilities was conducted to explain residents’ perceptions of the role of these elements and to draw conclusions. The results of the study indicate that neighborhood streets and social facilities play a significant role in facilitating interactions among residents. These interactions are a key factor in fostering a sense of community among them. The bonds of camaraderie among housing complex residents are key to fostering social cohesion within the community.

Abstract

Municipal solid waste management contributes to climate change through greenhouse gas emissions, particularly methane from landfill and unmanaged disposal. This study integrates the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI), First Order Decay (FOD), and system dynamics (SD) to identify historical drivers of MSW-related GHG emissions and evaluate long-term mitigation pathways in Tangerang Regency. LMDI decomposes emission changes into emission intensity, waste-treatment structure, waste-generation intensity, economic activity, and population effects, while FOD captures legacy methane from historical waste disposal. SD was then applied to simulate Business as Usual (BAU), Waste-to-Energy/WTE (S1), CH4 recovery (S2), enhanced recycling (S3), and lower population growth (S4) scenarios through 2050. GHG emissions increased from 541,155.24 tCO2e in 2019 to 648,953.80 tCO2e in 2024. The increase was driven primarily by emission intensity and economic activity, while lower waste-generation intensity and changes in waste-treatment structure partially offset the increase. By 2050, CH4 recovery (S2) yielded the largest reduction relative to BAU (47.02%), followed by recycling (S3) (9.71%), WTE (S1) (9.46%), and the lower-population-growth scenario (S4) (3.04%). These findings demonstrate that methane control and diversion toward controlled treatment pathways are more influential than isolated end-of-pipe interventions, highlighting the importance of an integrated low-carbon MSW strategy.
