Abstract

Recent years, development of the epidemic disease of AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) has become quite frightening for the people of the world (Zarpatista, 2012). In Indonesia there are currently 75 regencies/cities which have a very high prevalence of HIV-AIDS, among others due to the increasing of transmission from husband to wife (Wardah, 2013). The province of Bali including is one of the six provinces that has status of epidemic HIV-AIDS besides Papua, Riau, Jakarta, Jawa Barat, and Jawa Timur (Suriyani, 2006). In many cases, women infected with HIV from her partner/husband because women did not have power of both socially and economically to protect herself (Nainggolan, 2004). Based on pre eliminary study that conducted by researchers in Yayasan Citra Usadha (YCUI) on the three regencies area program that is Buleleng, Jembrana, and Karangasem, discrimination recognized did occur in some cases of ODHA in Bali especially women. One of the problem in ODHA’s life is not only related to the stigma and discrimination from the around environment, but also with their self condition acceptance (Rasyida, 2008). This situation attracts researcher to find out the self acceptance in Balinese woman who lives with HIV-AIDS. This study use qualitative method with phenomenological approach and 5 Balinese women who lives with HIV-AIDS as the respondents, the data collected with observation and in depth-interview conducted during 7 months. The result shows that there 9 representation of self-acceptance in Balinese woman who lives with HIV-AIDS which are be grateful, optimistic and always trying to do the optimum, have the right and feel equal with others, do not want to treated differently, want to help and sharing with others, self introspection, being closer with God. Abstract

Marriage is one of young adulthood’s development tasks. Some problems often arise in the initial period of marriage and disturb the marital adjustment process. In some countries with strong collective culture, a big family involvement is crucial and give an impact to marital adjustment process. In Bali, there is a culture called ngerob. Ngerob is a situation where one of the boys of a family should stay at parents home to continue the obligations and responsibilities of parents in customs, which means that a married man should invite his wife to live in a home with his parents. Adjustment with the partner's family is important in ngerob marriage. In order to reach a success marital adjustment, the wife is expected to have stable emotions. Emotionally intelligent wife is considered to have good self-control, able to express emotions appropriately, so that they can adapt with the circumstances it faces. The aim of this research is to determine the relation between emotional intelligence and marital adjustment among Balinese women who are ngerob in Denpasar. Subjects were Balinese woman who are married, living with in-laws (ngerob) and live in Denpasar (n=60). Data were collected through emotional intelligence questionnaire with and the marital adjustment questionnaire with. The data were analyzed using product moment correlation test. The correlation coefficient between emotional intelligence and marital adjustment are 0.503 with a significance level of 0.000 (p <0.05). The results of this research showed that there is a positive and significant correlation between emotional intelligence and marital adjustment among Balinese women who are ngerob in Denpasar. The higher level of emotional intelligence encourage a better marital adjustment process among Balinese women who are ngerob in Denpasar. Keywords : emotional intelligence, marital adjustment, ngerob

Abstract

As a social human being, a human cannot live by him/her self; he/she needs somebody else to interact, socialize, and have a relationship, which eventually create new generations through sexual intercourse (Sumpami, 2008). Marriage is a physical and mental bonding between a man and a woman as a wife and a husband to build a happy and eternal family based on one almighty God. Bali is one of Indonesian provinces that still strongly hold its tradition. To have a child is a kind of requisite in Balinese marriage. A preliminary study conducted by a researcher on 2013 shows that 8 out of 20 Balinese women chose to get pregnant before marriage because of the requisition from their partner and partner’s parent (Saraswaty, 2013). Based on this fact, many study are having interest to find out Balinese women’s motivation to get pregnant before marriage. This research used qualitative method with phenomenology design. Respondents are four Balinese women, which were chosen through purposive sampling method. The research results show that the interviewees have intrinsic and extrinsic motivation on deciding to get premarital pregnancy. The intrinsic motivation, consist of a feeling of have found perfect match, being accepted by partner’s parents, a desire to be loved deeper, felt appreciated and fidelity of partner, tried to prove that be able to have a baby. While the extrinsic motivation are a feeling of being scared of people’s contempt, afraid that her partner will get married again, motivated to get a better life, getting attention from partner and partner’s parents, and having grown up and responsible partner. Abstract

This research had been done in Bank Pembangunan Daerah Bali which is in the several branches have reduction of consumers saving percentage. In early of 2014, the asset position of BPD Bali was Rp. 14.763.000.000.000,00. But in facts said that the quantity of consumers saving have a significant reduction. It means, there are many consumers of Bank Pembangunan Daerah Bali are not satisfied with the services of the bank. The research goal is to find the empirical data about how much factors of service’s contribution to the consumers satisfaction of Bank Pembangunan Daerah Bali. This research used quantitative research method. The analysis method used discriminant analysis. The subject of the research is the consumers of Bank Pembangunan Daerah Bali, which have been chosen from 3 branches, those are Mangupura branch, Denpasar (Gajah Mada) branch, and Klungkung branch. Criterias of the subject are the consumers which in 20 until 60 years old and had been the consumers of Bank Pembangunan Daerah Bali more than a year. The technique of data collection is giving the questionaire of the consumers satisfaction scale to the consumers who are qualified. The result or the research show that there are three factors of services which has contribution to the satisfaction of Bank Pembangunan Daerah Bali consumers. Those factors are the physical evidence of service, responsiveness of service, and perception factor. The service factors that has the biggest contribution to the consumers satisfaction is physical evidence of service with relative contribution in the mount of 87,6%, it followed by the perception factors with relative contributin as big as 38,6%, and responsiveness of service with relative contribution in the mount of 30.8%. Believed that three aspects could predict the satisfaction level of the consumer together, with the same effective contribution as big as 52,6%. Abstract

Sacred vows in a marriage generally requires consent from parents. Likewise in Bali on nyentana marriage, which makes the parents of the men sometimes reject and do not approve of her son who wish to nyentana to the woman's family. Psychologically, the role of parents who participated in the affairs of his marriage is a form of social support from parents. This study was conducted to determine how the acceptance of social support from parents in men which is nyentana marriage, and what are the social support received and needed by men in nyentana marriage from his parents. This research is a qualitative research with a case study approach. Collecting data in this research using observation and interviews on the two Balinese men who do the nyentana marriage with category one person divorced and one person who is not divorced. The results of this research indicate that both mens were nyentana both divorced an non-divorced get the same social support from their parents like information support, instrumental support, emotional support, and esteem support. Based on the acceptance of social support from parents, mens who divorced get the esteem support during the courtship process and get a support again when his wife is pregnant because their parents forbid their wedding before. It’s different with mens who are not divorced get te social support from his parents when their having a baby. Keywords: social support, parents, men, marriage, nyentana

Abstract

Marriage in Balinese society is closely related to the existing Wangsa in Bali. According to different marriage of Wangsa in Bali, women’s Wangsa will be dropped to follow her husband’s Wangsa which is known as nyerod. Living a family life can’t be separated from household matters that can lead into the end of marriage that can be caused by divorce or death of the husband. For nyerod widow who return back to her bajang house and accepted by the biological family, the status becomes mulih deha. Individuals who have failed in household, some were able to get through stressful situations, but not a little were difficult to pass it. Individuals who are able to respond in a way that is healthy and productive when facing adversity or trauma called resilience. Based on these explanation, this study aim to know the resilience nyerod widow who have hadmulih deha. This study use qualitative research method with case study approach. Respondents in this study are two persons. The techniques of collecting the data were interviews and observation in two nyerod's widow that already mulih deha. Data analysis techniques through three stages, namely open coding, axial coding and selective coding. The results of this study indicated there were occurs twice pressing conditions, breakdown into eight phases, namely adverse events (nyerod), succumbing, survival, adverse events (loss of a spouse), succumbing, survival, recovery, and thriving. Besides that some of internal factors that can support resilient are motivation and hope, from external factors are children, family and social. Keywords: resilience, widow, nyerod, mulih deha

Abstract

Many demands of role that already undertaken by Balinese people who work as employees, makes the employees work under pressure and confuse facing the responsibility on each role. This situation can lead them to work family conflict. A form of interrole conflict in which the role pressures from the work and family domains are mutually incompatible in some respect (Greenhaus & Beutell, 1985). The conflict will push the work conflict, which has the potential to reduce the level of job satisfaction. However, the relationship between work family conflict with job satisfaction can be stronger when it involves the organizational commitment in both cases. Therefore, this study aims to see the relationship between work family conflict with job satisfaction, and examine the relationship between work family conflict on job satisfaction and organizational commitment as moderator. This is a correlation quantitative method. Respondents involves this study are 150 Balinese employees who have family, minimum at high school degree, have been working for 1 year in their company, minimum age 20 years, and has status as a permanent employee. Reliability scores for work family conflict scale is 0,876, reliability scores for job satisfaction scale is 0,864, and reliability scores for organizational commitment is 0,924. Data distribution has shown normal and linear distribution. The result of moderator variable regression analysis by sub-group method shows that organizational commitment doesn’t moderate the effects of work family conflict to job satisfaction on Balinese employees (F count value (1,066) < F table value (3,10)). Abstract

Marital satisfaction is not an easy thing to accomplish, especially for wife. Ibrahim (2002) explains that the number of wife which perceive marital satisfaction less than husband. Surya (2001) said that to achieve a successful marriage, the individual must have the ability to adjust. The main adjustment in the overall process of marriage is marital adjustment. Marital adjustment will be more complex for wife who lived with in-law. Balinese women who married and not able to build their own house are required to live in extended family which usually consists of mother-in-law and law. Balinese people also knows other type of marriage that called nuclear family which the couples lived in separated house of their family. The purpose of this study is to know the correlation between marital adjustment and marital satisfaction on Balinese women who lived in nuclear and extended family and to know the differentiation of marital adjustment and marital satisfaction on Balinese women who lived in nuclear and extended family. This study used quantitative method. Subject were 116 Balinese women who married. The results showed a positive and significant correlation between marital adjustment and marital satisfaction on Balinese women who lived in nuclear family with correlation 0,353 (r>0,05) and probability 0,007 (p<0,05). The similar result also found on Balinese women who lived in extended family with correlation 0,518 (r>0,05) and probability 0,000 (p<0,05). Marital adjustment and marital satisfaction were not different between Balinese women who lived in nuclear or extended family. Abstract

In general, women have two roles in life, there are domestic roles and public roles. In terms of Balinese culture, women have three roles or triple roles in life, which are reproductive roles, productive roles, and social roles. Being Balinese Hindu women which is inseparable from the customary of traditional bonds, of course, requires a balance in running are three roles or triple roles in life. There are still many Balinese women imprisoned in a state of dilemma to do a job search for a career, while on the other hand must be a housewife and social activities that unwittingly has its own demands. If this condition is not communicated properly, it can interfere with the psychological condition or stress. To deal with stress and to prevent the negative effects of stress continues to occur, then the individual conduct coping strategies. However, coping strategies do vary considerably between one individual with another individual. This study aims to determine differences in coping strategies in Bali Hindu woman who works and what does not work. This research is a quantitative study using chi-square analysis techniques. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling, on the subject of Balinese Hindu women who worked (being employee) as many as 100 people and who are not working (unemployee) as many as 100 people who live in Denpasar with an age range of 20 years to 40 years. A parametric in this study using a scale of coping strategies as much as 31 item with reliability coefficient of 0,917. The results of this study obtained significance value of 0,406 or is above 0,05 (p>0,05). Based on these results it can be said that there is no difference in coping strategies in employee and unemployee Balinese Hindu woman ( who works and what does not work). Abstract

Adolescence is known as an important period in the formation of self-concept. However, not all adolescents can pass through these phases in the family circle. Adolescents who live in orphanages have certain background which could affect the formation of self-concept. This study aims to determine the role of self-acceptance and social support against self-concept of adolescents living in an orphanage in Bali. This study is expected to provide benefits in the formation of self-concept of adolescents living in the orphanage through the role of self-acceptance and social support. The subjects were 98 adolescents who lived in the orphanage. The sampling technique used a two stage cluster sampling. The results of multiple regression analysis showed (R) of 0.703 (F = 46 318; p < 0.05), which means that self-acceptance and social support jointly contribute to the self concept. The coefficient of determination was 0.494, meaning that effective contribution of self-acceptance and social support in explaining the variant of self-concept as much as 49.4%, and from the value of standardized beta was found that self-acceptance is more a role of self-concept with a value of 0.506 instead of 0.278 social support. It concluded that the role of self acceptance and social support were significantly important against self-concept adolescents living in an orphanage in Bali.
