Abstract

The phrase ἐγώ εἰμι (Ego Eimi, “I am”) uttered by Jesus Christ is His unique self-confession which has theological value for Christianity in general. This self-confession is strongly emphasized in the Gospel of John. Even though this saying of Jesus is so significant in John, there are parties who falsely reinterpret the saying and thus undermine the implication of the meaning of His words. Especially among unitarian Christians, they disagree with mainstream Christians who are trinitarian regarding the meaning of Ego Eimi that Jesus uttered to support the theological presuppositions they hold regarding the identity of Jesus. Until now, the essential doctrines of Christianity are constantly being challenged by those who question them at the textual level. This research was conducted using a comparative qualitative method between the verses in the Tanakh and the LXX which represent all the words of the Ego Eimi spoken by Jesus about Himself, both absolute and equipped with nominative predicates with verses in the Old Testament which have the same linguistic and contextual features. The scope of the research object is limited only to the Gospel of John. In conclusion, this research literally indicates the equality of the Divine essences of Jesus Christ and Yahweh.

Abstract

Elders, shepherd, overseer, bishop, pastor, deacon are terms in the world of Christian leadership. In the context of 1 Peter, the terms elders, shepherds, and overseers refer to the same person. Peter is so serious about giving direction and guidance to them on how they should carry out their pastoral duties and responsibilities. At that time the social situation faced by Christians in the Roman empire was very uncomfortable because they experienced persecution because of their faith and did not want to submit to worship Caesar as God. They stand firm in their faith that only Jesus is the true God and only Jesus they worship. In such situation, the Christian congregations are strengthened and encouraged by Peter to remain firm in holding on to the faith and keep practicing ways of life that are right and in accordance with the teachings of Christ as their great shepherd in all aspects of their lives, including in the internal territory of the congregation. Peter gave instructions and qualities that elders should have in their shepherding as well as those qualities that he saw and imitated in the person of Jesus himself during his life with Jesus. He wants every elder in the Christian community who receives his letter to shepherd people with the qualities and character that Jesus did as the Great Shepherd of all believers.

Abstract

As time goes by, advances in technology and finance have made it easier for people to make financial transactions, including accessing online lending services. The increase in the use of social media has also contributed to the rise of consumerism in society, including among Christians. As a result, there has been an increase in the use of online loan services. The relationship between temptation in James 1:14 and the ease of access to financial services in a highly advanced society like today’s is interesting to further investigate. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using a theological approach. The phenomenon of online lending has infiltrated the lives of Christian youth today, and this has led many people to fall into temptation. Some of them follow their own personal desires to meet their own consumerism level. However, every temptation has a purpose to test human faith. This test improves and strengthens the faith that already exists in believers, resulting in the wholeness of divine character during the sanctification process in their lives.

Abstract

The church has a dynamic view of sport from a historical perspective. The celebration of Istmian games in the Greek and Roman eras gave a perspective that sport in ancient culture was part of the worship of the gods. Even so, the Apostle Paul actually accommodated sports matches as an illustration of the struggle for the faith of believers in his message to the congregation in Corinth. At that time Corinth regularly held Istmian games as a paganistic worship of Poseidon. The church fathers had pros and cons views on sports activities and tournaments. But then the paradigm shift became positive as the influence of polytheism and Hellenism receded in the celebration of sport. This research was conducted qualitatively with a historical theological approach. Sports actually have a positive impact on physical health. It also trains teamwork and communication, and forms a disciplined and sporty personality.

Abstract

In the modern era, the development of social media has become a trend that cannot be separated from people's lives, including among Christian teenagers in Mogoyunggung. The use of social media among teenagers can have both positive and negative impacts. One aspect that is influenced by social media in this era is the aspect of social behavior. Teenagers who are in the transition from childhood to adulthood are very vulnerable to negative influences that occur in their social environment and through social media. Almost all members of the community in Mogoyunggung have social media accounts such as Facebook and TikTok. Starting from parents, teenagers, and even 5-year-old children already have a Facebook account. In addition to the influence of social media on the shift in the lifestyle of Christian teenagers, there is also the influence of free association that can affect the lifestyle of Christian teenage children. Teenagers have uncontrolled freedom in accessing social media. Having freedom in accessing social media makes someone not have time to interact with others, but only focuses on accessing social media. This research is a qualitative study using methods to collect data through books, the internet, journals, and interviews. The purpose of this study is to understand the positive and negative impacts on the lifestyle of Christian teenage children in Mogoyunggung. Thus, the results of this study can provide awareness in using time effectively, such as worshiping, praying, and learning.

Abstract

In the Book of Matthew, there are many parables that explain the Kingdom of Heaven that Jesus conveyed during his ministry. One of them is the parable of the Rented Vineyard. The important point in the parable is the explanation of Jesus Christ as the cornerstone. The purpose of this article is to understand the meaning conveyed in this parable through the philosophical meaning of Roman architecture, particularly in relation to the use of the cornerstone as one of its elements. This research was conducted by exploring the principles and logic of the Roman arch structure and its application to find a correct and precise conclusion about the meaning of the cornerstone. The hope is that the results of this research will lead to a deeper understanding of the will of God, especially the meaning of the Kingdom of Heaven that Jesus tried to convey through his quote.

Abstract

The singing of songs holds the same place and value as other elements of liturgical worship. As one of the elements of worship, singing is considered the most expressive and communicative form of appreciation that believers can use to express their faith in God. The songs should not be separated from the biblical lyrics, even though they have their own background, meaning, and significance. This study aims to analyze the form and theological meaning of the Indonesian version of the song “Praise The Lord, Oh My Soul.” Its original version is known as “10,000 Reasons” by Matt Redman and Jonas Myrin, where the lyrics are adopted from Psalm 103:1-2. In this study, the author used a descriptive qualitative method, using literature data analysis techniques (collecting data through books, both e-books and from the library, as well as journals, methods, and internet articles) and other readings related to this scientific work. The purpose of this research is to analyze the form and theological meaning of the song “Praise The Lord, Oh My Soul” which is expected to contribute to the church in worship liturgy. The result of this study is an understanding of the form and theological meaning of spiritual songs that can deepen the worship experience and appreciate every song of praise to God.

Abstract

The use of musical instruments in Christian church worship has been a subject of debate for many years. While some church denominations permit the use of modern musical instruments, others argue that it goes against church traditions and distracts the congregation from worshiping God. As members of the church, it is important for the congregation to have a thorough understanding of the role of musical instruments in Christian worship, as they have been used in the Bible to glorify God and enhance the worship experience. As the church has evolved, so too has its music, with various new forms of music emerging. The use of music and musical instruments in church services should be clearly defined by church officials, as a complete understanding of church music and musical instruments is essential in expressing Christian worship. The journey of music and musical instruments has become a part of worship services throughout history and their use should always have a clear purpose. Jesus Christ knows the hearts of His people and understands why musical instruments and the voices of worshippers are used in Christian services. This research uses a descriptive qualitative research method. The data collected comes from a literature review and a study of the Bible using text analysis methods to find the Biblical principles.

Abstract

A quarter-life crisis is a phase where a person feels anxious about their life in the future. The transition from adolescence to adulthood has several challenges that are certainly different from the previous developmental process. As a person progresses towards a more mature age, they will face new challenges such as work, marital status, and mindset changes. This phase often causes stress for some people. Therefore, an alternative solution is needed to shape the mindset so that people in young adulthood can face it with the right mindset. The researcher will use a psycho-social approach to identify this problem and provide a perspective from Christian education. The article with the title Perspective of Christian Education in Dealing with Quarter-Life Crisis in Early Adulthood uses descriptive qualitative methods with references from several studies that have been conducted in the last five years. The results of this study report that the Christian perspective is expected to be a solution in dealing with quarter-life crises so that every adult can realize that the emotional crisis they feel can be overcome by themselves because they are the ones who decide to choose the direction of their life plans.

Abstract

Society translates health as physical health, while humans consist of body, soul, and spirit. The health of the body cannot be separated from the health of the soul and the health of the spirit. God created humans very well, but with the ability to sin, humans sinned and the curse entered the world. Having fallen into sin, humans as the image and likeness of God must try to change their core beliefs that have been influenced by the four lies of the devil. With the divine authority of God's word using one of the psychotherapy techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Christians are expected to experience a change in core beliefs. This change occurs due to changed behavior after renewing the mind in accordance with Philippians 4: 6-8. Qualitative research was conducted by way of exposition of Philippians 4:6-8. The research also took literature and included daily notes from anxiety disorder patients. It is hoped that early adult Christian anxiety patients will understand that the Bible is sufficient to answer the problems they face and be able to make peace with the disease of anxiety disorder and function again in the broader community.
