Abstract

Patient safety is a global health concern, with the primary objective of preventing harm to patients and addressing unavoidable side effects. Key patient safety goals include effective patient assistance, clear communication, safe medication practices, ensuring accurate procedures and patient identification, minimizing infection risks, and reducing the likelihood of injury from falls. The Service Team at Melati General Hospital implemented a method to socialize these safety goals to nurses through lectures and interactive Q&A sessions. The results indicated a significant improvement in nurses' knowledge about patient safety goals, with a post-test increase to 94%. This enhanced understanding is expected to be applied in patient care, such as accurate patient identification, adherence to the five moments of hand hygiene, and further minimizing injury risks, thereby improving overall service quality.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the experiences of families who have members undergoing palliative care. Using a phenomenological approach, we conducted in-depth interviews with six families involved in home palliative care. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi analysis to identify the main themes that emerged from the family's experiences. The study results show that families' experiences with palliative care patients are complex and emotionally charged. The main themes that emerged included: 1) Family emotional feelings, 2) Family obstacles in facing the treatment process and 3) Family support. This study provides in-depth insight into families' experiences with palliative care patients, highlighting the complexities, challenges, and needs involved in caring for an ill family member. Clinical implications of these findings include the importance of supporting families with appropriate resources and services, improving family communication and engagement in care, and recognizing the importance of emotional and social support in strengthening family well-being throughout the palliative care journey.

Therefore, the researchers were interested in conducting a study on the relationship between BMI and the incidence of hypertension at Puskesmas Sail. To determine the relationship between BMI and the incidence of hypertension among the elderly in the service area of the Puskesmas Sail in Pekanbaru City.  This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional study design. The study was conducted at Puskesmas Sail in Pekanbaru. The sample was selected using accidental sampling. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. Abstract

Introduction: Anxiety is the most frequently observed response in children during their hospitalization. Puzzle play therapy refers to a therapeutic activity that involves children engaging in the process of assembling fragmented pieces to construct a complete picture or to finish a given written task. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of puzzle play therapy on the reduction of anxiety levels among children. Method: This study adopted a pre-experimental design, specifically employing a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The population of the study comprised all pediatric patients aged between 3 and 6 years who were admitted to the hospital. Purposive sampling was used to select a total of 32 participants. The data was collected using a questionnaire as the research instrument. Result: The study's findings revealed that the mean pre-test anxiety score was 25.28, with a standard deviation of 7.040. In comparison, the mean post-test anxiety score was 19.19, with a standard deviation of 4.254. The statistical analysis conducted using the Wilcoxon test showed a ρ value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), which indicates a statistically significant reduction in anxiety levels following the intervention of puzzle play therapy.

Abstract

This study emphasizes that breast milk is the most optimal source of nutrition for infants during the first six months of life, and the success of exclusive breastfeeding is influenced by several key factors, one of which is the proper attachment of the baby’s mouth during feeding. Correct attachment is crucial to ensure effective milk transfer and comfort for both mother and baby, while also preventing potential issues such as nipple abrasions or blisters that often arise from improper latching. To investigate this issue, the research was conducted using a systematic review method by identifying and analyzing relevant literature. The article search was carried out through several major databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect, with keywords focusing on the relationship between attachment and nipple fissures, as well as attachment and cracked nipples. The initial search yielded 5,350 articles published between 2020 and 2024; however, after applying the inclusion criteria, only 15 articles were deemed relevant to the research objective. A further critical appraisal process was then conducted, resulting in 11 high-quality articles being included in the final analysis. The findings from these studies consistently highlight that poor attachment of the baby’s mouth is significantly associated with the occurrence of nipple injuries among breastfeeding mothers. Consequently, ensuring proper latching techniques can reduce the risk of nipple trauma, support maternal comfort, and improve the overall success of exclusive breastfeeding practices, which are vital for infant growth and maternal health.

Abstract

Caring behaviors are the actions that show basic nursing skills, which involve qualities like being patient, honest, confident, present, gentle, and humble when taking care of patients. Patient satisfaction is the feeling of happiness or contentment a patient has when the care they receive meets or goes beyond their expectations. This study looks at how nurses' caring behaviors affect patient satisfaction in healthcare services. The study uses a non-experimental design with a correlational analysis approach, and it's based on data collected at one point in time. The population of the study includes 110 people, and a purposeful sampling method was used to select a total of 67 participants. The tools used to collect data are a questionnaire about nurses' caring behaviors and a questionnaire about patient satisfaction. The data was analyzed using the Spearman rank test. The results show that most nurses (71.6%) have good caring behaviors, and most patients (79.1%) are satisfied with the nursing care they received. The statistical test showed a p-value of 0.001, which is less than 0.05, indicating a significant relationship between caring behaviors and patient satisfaction.

Abstract

Toddlerhood is a critical period for optimizing child development, as it is a time when foundational skills in various domains are formed. Malnutrition in children, including conditions like stunting, wasting, underweight, and kwashiorkor, poses a significant threat to this development. The effects of malnutrition are not isolated to a single domain but can disrupt and hinder growth across five developmental areas: gross motor skills, fine motor skills, language, personal-social skills, and cognitive skills. This study aims to examine the developmental characteristics of toddlers suffering from malnutrition, focusing on how these conditions impact their growth. A literature review design was employed, and articles were sourced from databases such as ScienceDirect, PubMed, and SpringerLink. The article search followed the PRISMA Flow Diagram, and a total of 5045 articles were initially identified. After screening, 10 articles were selected that met the inclusion criteria and research objectives. The findings from these studies consistently revealed that malnourished toddlers exhibit delays in the five developmental domains mentioned above. These delays, particularly in motor and cognitive skills, can have long-term consequences on a child's future development. This study emphasizes the importance of addressing malnutrition in the early years, as early intervention is crucial for mitigating developmental delays and improving overall well-being in affected children.
