Abstract

Procrastination is a kind of failure on self-regulation to accomplish a task based on a voluntary intention. Although he or she understands the consequence, this kind of behavior occurs repeatedly. This kind of harmful behavior frequently occurred among the IAYP (International Award for Young People) participants. IAYP is a kind of character building program. The program requires participants to accomplish three activities i.e. sport, skill, and community service once per week during 24 weeks (either for bronze and silver level). This program trained participant to have internal motivation. Hence, the objective of this research is to discuss the causal factors of the procrastinate behavior on one IAYP participant. Currently he is still at the bronze level and frequently performs procrastination of those three activities. This preliminary research revealed that the external and internal factors are the reason for procrastination. The interesting external factor which contributes is the subject's perception about the IAYP leader. The leader is perceived as not having empathy for participant's inability to conform the IAYP schedule. The subject is likely to ask an excuse for being procrastinate. This result mirrored that the fundamental reason for being procrastination is subject’s inability to build internal motivation (internal factor).

Abstract

Emotional labor is employee's ability to manage affect, and therefore his or her physiognomy and physical gesture are publicly accepted. Emotional labor requires employee to show pleasant behavior, such as smiling, and suppress the negative affect especially when serving consumers. Indeed, it is very difficult since consumer in service industry behaves haphazardly. Objective of this preliminary is to discuss employee’s emotional labor situation. A cafe employee participates in this qualitative research. He is asked to be a research subject since his personal manager reported of frequent laziness when serving consumers. This research revealed that the subject has considerable work experiences. Unfortunately, he has less ability to manage his emotion when serving consumers. He is more likely to adapt surface acting than deep acting in order to manage his emotion.

Abstract

Endurance or patience is the crucial factor for university students in completing their research. Having high endurance relates to the ability of facing stress, high motivation, and well ordered behavior. The artificial neural system has been built to detect this endurance level. When succeeding in identifying this endurance level, student will be able to manage his or her behavior toward completing research. The optimal endurance has been achieved when the artificial neural system has 0.75 learning constants and 60 hidden layers. At that condition, convergent stage or the SSE (sum square error) is ≤ 0.1, and the additional iterating is only 10,334. That optimal level is 100% accuracy in the regular examination and only 75% accuracy in the irregular examination.

Abstract

Forty adolescence students participated in this research. They are from a health vocational school. During their school time they stay in a rent house / boarding house, since their parents live in other islands. Objective of this research is to verify the relationship between adolescence's consumptive behavior and their self-concept. It is expected that this result research will enrich parents and guidance counselor teacher in monitoring their grow-up children. Hypothesis of this research is that there is negative relationship between adolescence's self-concept and their consumptive behavior. The stronger their self­concept, their consumptive behavior will be less likely manifest. On the other hand, the more vulnerable their self-concept, the consumptive behavior will be more likely manifest. Result of this research revealed that the Pearson coefficient correlation rxy = -0.673, p<0.05. It means that the research hypothesis is verified. However there are still three research limitations which relate to the respondent's characteristics. Several suggestions for the next research are discussed.

Abstract

Process of building character on young people started from the habit changing and the provision of activity meaning. The habit changing was applied through conducting ordinary activities among young people i.e. sport / physical recreation, skill training, community service and adventure / expedition. Those 3 former activities should be conducted continuously at least 6 months, during 60 minutes / activity / week, whilst the adventure / expedition should be conducted at least 2 days till 14 days, based on the character changing level (bronze, silver, and gold). Those activities were under the IAYP (International Award for Young People) program. The provision of activity meaning was the participant's interpretation whether these activities were burden or challenge. When the burden interpretation occurred, participant would be likely to tell a lie, lazy, broken his or her commitment to accomplish the activities, and try to find creative apology to cover the laziness. When the challenging interpretation occurred, participant would be likely to have good characters i.e. tough, internal self-regulation, honest, interpreting disability as opportunity, high commitment, and patient. This character building on young people is a precious investment to be a though leader.Method of this research was monitoring student's self report on accomplishing those 4 activities under the IAYP program. Monitoring meant reminding (motivating) participant toward his or her commitment, instructing participant to repeat those activities from the initial start when he or she was lazy, and reminding participant to choose middle risk adventure activity instead of high or low risk activity. There were 13 participants (6 girls, 7 boys), university students, mean age was 20. All of them wanted to achieve the bronze award. Those students participated to the IAYP individually; therefore their completion time was dissimilar. By the end of research (month 11), 4 students succeeded in achieving bronze award. One participant was drop out because had other commitment, whilst the rests (8 students) were still in progress. Two of those 8 students should repeat again their activities from the initial start, since they broke their schedule commitment.

Abstract

Objective of this research is to verify the relationship between job satisfaction and absenteeism among mining employees. Employees with high percentage of absenteeism tend to have low job satisfaction. Absenteeism reflects low morale in organization. Unsatisfied employees tend to withdrawal from various organization programs; fail to report about their attendance, and having negative attitude toward organization. The hypothesis is that there is negative relationship between job satisfaction and employee's absenteeism. The more they satisfy with their jobs, the lower their absenteeism level. Ten employees participated in this research. According to the human resource division, those employees were often absenteeism. Therefore were requested to fill in the Job Satisfaction Scale. Thus the dependent variable is the absenteeism level and the independent variable is employees' job satisfaction. This research revealed that there is no relationship between job satisfaction and absenteeism (the Spearman Correlation Rho = -0.190, p<0.05). Two research limitations are discussed.

Abstract

Fifteen employees who work in an editorial division participated in this research. This is a kind of a surveyed research since the sample size is identical with the population. Objective of this research is verifying the relationship between job satisfaction and conflict awakening among editorial division employees. From this research, the personnel division is expected to design empowerment training toward those employees. It is because source of this research problem is likely the management board of this organization. The dependent variable of this research is conflict, whilst the independent variable is the job satisfaction. Hypothesis of this research is that there is a negative relationship between the job satisfaction and conflict. The more employees satisfy with their job, the lesser their conflict. On the other hand, the less they satisfy with their job the more their conflict awakening. The non- parametric statistic analysis revealed that the rho coefficient is -0.505, p<0.05. The hypothesis is verified. Three research limitations are discussed.

Abstract

Objective of this research is to verify the relationship between career aspiration and self-regulation among first grade children. Gender stereotype career aspiration is more likely chosen by children with external self-regulation. The more internal their self-regulation, their career aspiration is more likely counter gender stereotype. Children with internal self-regulation are more certain when they have to violating the gender norm. The dependent variable of this research is children's career aspiration, and the independent variable is children's self-regulation. Two scales are utilized i.e. the Career Aspiration Scale and the Self-regulation Scale. There were 85 first grade children, aged 6-7, in urban areas participated in this research. This research revealed that there is no relationship between career aspiration and self­regulation on children (F(l,74)= 0.096, p<0.05). The plausible reason is that those Indonesian families are more likely collective contrast to the West families. Therefore Indonesian children are not motivated to have internal self-regulation, and therefore their career aspiration choice is more likely gender stereotype.

Abstract

This research was designed to test the contribution of the Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) to individual 100 meters sprinters' goal setting ability. There were fourteen individual 100 meters sprinters from Training Center Local of East Java participated in this research Data were analyzed using difference mean pretest and posttest goal setting ability score The result obtained indicated that: (1) The mean pretest goal setting ability score = 6. (2) The mean postest goal setting ability score = 12.5 (3). The mean gain score = 6 5 There vvas signrficat difference individual 100 meters spnntors' goal setting ability between before and after received the NLP training Aftor receiving the NLP training, the individual 100 meters sprinters' goal setting ability was increased. Individual 100 meters sprinters' ability increased through the NLP training because of subject's readiness and participation, training methods and training Hems, with they are interrelated to each other.

Abstract

Objective of this research is to explain the prediction of mother's gender role attitude on children’s gendered playing activity. High gender stereotype attitude on mothers will predict the gender stereotype choice on playing activity among children. There were 115 children aged 6-7 years old. first grade from 4 public elementary schools in Yogyakarta participated in this research. Part of the OAT-AM (Occupation. Activity, Trait - Attitude Measure) Scale was utilized to measure mother's gender role attitude. Measuring children's gendered choice on playing activity was utilizing the Children’s Playing Activity Scale, and the 18 picture items (8 were feminine items. 8 were masculine items, and 2 were neutral items) were obtained from several children books. Result of the simple regression analysis was F (1, 108) = 1.149, p >.05, non significant. It was revealed that mother's gender role attitude could not predict children's gendered choice on playing activity. Several recommendations related the research variables were discussed.
