Abstract

Should children pursue their education especially when parents need their children's assistance desperately in farming? It is more likely parents prefer them working to studying. Parents also perceive that there is no guarantee for being employed for their children with high educational level. These narrow perceptions are undoubtedly come from their limited educational level. One hundred and forty eight students from the SMANII Playen Gunung Kidul, Grade 2, participate enthusiastically on this research. The research hypothesis presumes that there is a positive correlation between the parent's educational level and parent's social support for their children in pursuing study. The higher parent's educational level, the stronger their social support. Research's result indicates that the hypothesis is significant (r = 0.172, p<0.05). The determinant coefficient is only 0.029584. It means that the prediction of parent's social support by the educational level is only 2.9% or 3%. Other variables which do not include on this research contribute 97% on explaining the emerging of social support.

Abstract

This study assesses the effect of interpersonal competency of village midwives on caring intention toward maternal health. Interpersonal competency creates warm and close relationship, which makes midwives be having more sensitive feeling patient's need. Ninety eight village midwives in Kediri District, East Java Province, participate in this study. Two scales of Likert model are utilized. The Caring Intention toward Maternal Health Scale has 3 aspects i.e. self objectives to reach, active efforts to fulfill normative hope; and perceived of control behavior. The Competency Scale has 5 aspects i.e. initiatives, self disclosure, assertiveness, giving emotional support, and conflict management. Result of this study indicates that there is a positive correlation between the interpersonal competency variable and the caring intention of maternal health variable (r = 0.628 with p<0.01). The effective contribution from interpersonal competency to caring intention to achieve is 39.5%, while the rest percentage is influenced by other factors such as individual differences, social norms, and also clinical skills.

Abstract

Being a nurse is easily to burn out since his or her job is stressful. One is more like likely to burn out when his or her spiritual quotient is low. Forty nurses participate in this research. The spiritual quotient scale is designed through 47 items and 7 aspects i.e. self conscious, visionary, flexible, having holistic opinion, able to change him or herself firstly and then modify others, being an inspiration resource for others, and able to self reflect. The burn out scale is also designed through 32 items and 3 aspects i.e. emotional exhausted, inferior feeling, and depersonalization. The Pearson correlation between the spiritual quotient variable and the burn out scale indicates that r = -0.678 with p<0.000. It shows that the higher spiritual quotient the lower probability he or she suffers burn out. The determinant coefficient is on moderate level (0.459). It means that the prediction of burn out variable by the spiritual quotient is only 45.9%. Other variables which do not include on this research contribute 54.1% on explaining the emerging of burn out. It may be those subjects (95%) are still living with their parents. That kind of living arrangement is more likely to eliminate the burn out case.

Abstract

Marriage happiness is contributed largely by couple's communication smoothness. The marriage happiness scale is demonstrated through 5 aspects i.e. passionate love, authority distribution, sexual activity, financial situation, relationship with spouse's family. The couple's communication scale is translated through 4 aspects i.e. discussion, dialog, body language, and sexual activity. The Pearson correlation between the couple's communication and the marriage happiness variables indicates that r = 0.547 with p = 0.004. The determinant coefficient which explains the contribution of independent variable seems low (29.9%). It is suggested that other variables should be included such as the length of marriage (couple's age), couple's work pattern, communication method, and type of household. It is strong recommended that husbands should also be the research subjects. The husband's perception of marriage happiness might be different with his wife's.

Abstract

Children's drawing is not only an immediate visual image, but it can be an expression of a concept from an object or situation. Therefore children are able to produce drawings without seeing the real object. This experiment is conducted through 7 times story telling as the drawing's stimulus. There are 37 kindergarten children participate on this experiment. There are 5 aspects of drawing evaluation i.e. object color arrangement, figure movement, drawing theme, background color arrangement, and complexity. The comparison between the pre-test and post-test indicate that color arrangement either on object or background develops better among more than 50% students, whereas the other 3 drawing aspects are less likely to develop. It means that those story telling are insufficient on developing children's drawing imagination. It is because they need more on drawing with having example than listening story telling. On the other hand, the color development is more likely influenced by researcher's guidance on how to draw properly than story telling interventions.

Abstract

Is crowded variable always influenced by density variable, or are there other mediating variables such as social tolerance and familiarization? This research objective is intended to understand the relationship between the density and crowded variables. It is also intended to explain the role of those two mediatingvariables. It is found, that there is no direct relationship between the density and crowded variables (r xI u = .068, p = .0667). However there is negative relationship between the social tolerance and crowded variables (r ^ n = -.323, p = .001). The third hypothesis mentioned that there is negative relationship between the familiarization and crowded variables. Unexpectedly that third hypothesis is significant but having an opposite direction, there is positive correlation between those two variables (r . {, = .171, p = .014). Four detailed reasons behind that reversing hypothesis are found at the discussion explanation.

Abstract

The objective of this research is examining the positive relationship between the religiosity level and the meaningful of life variables. There are four aspects of the meaningful of life variable such as the life direction, understanding of self potentiality, ability to beliave positively in facing reality, and ability to engage his or her social interaction positively. The research hypothesis is significant with r . = .446 and p<.OL The determinant coefficient is nearly 20%, and this obviously needs other additional independent variables such as personality. It will also interesting when widening the research subjects into other religions such as Moslems, Buddhist, or Hindu.

Abstract

Thorough two questionnaires, 154 students were asked either their social parental supports or motivational on academic learning. They were on grade 11, and their school was located in Gunung Kidul Regency, east side of Yogyakarta Province. It was expected that there was a positive correlation between the social parental support and children's motivation on academic learning. Data on the social parental support were collected through four factors i.e. information supply, emotional support, evaluation, and physical supply (money, transportation, books, etc.). Further on, data on students motivational were collected through six factors i.e. interest, need, aspiration, attitude, value, and incentive. Research result was that there was not any correlation between the social parental support and students motivational. One explanation was that the motivational factor should be focused more on one subject such as math, instead of whole subjects.

Abstract

Praising students genuinely for demonstrating high efforts in studying math will increase their scores in math. Twenty two students, 9-10 years old, grade fourth, participate in this experiment. Half students are in the experiment group whilst the rests are in the control group, on the basis of the random assignment principle. The F = 24.990 p = .000 and the t = 5.632 p = .000 demonstrate that praising students has increased their math scores. Some suggestions in adding some variables such as student's gender are discussed with intention to improve this study.

Abstract

One hundred and thirty eight students grade eleventh participated on this research. It was expected that the students' academic performance was influenced by their parents* social supports Those supports consisted of providing relevant information, emotional encouragement, providing accurate evaluation, and providing learning facilities. It was found that die product moment correlation score was .290, p < .01. Indeed, this research has underlined the crucial parental influence on children's academic performance.
