Abstract

The gender stereotype behavior model in choosing children's toys consists of three latent variables i.e. the biological factor, cultural factor, and psychological characteristic. The later variable is endogen whilst the rests are exogenous and covariance. Each latent variable is converted by two observed variables i.e. the gender stereotype behavior and child rearing practice for describing the cultural influence; the testosterone hormone level and the preference in choosing partner based on race reason for describing the biological factor; aggressive behavior and spatial cognitive ability for describing psychological characteristic. Using the simulation data, the model is modified e.g. the spatial observed variable should be correlated with the gender stereotype observed variable. The modification model produces the significance level with the p = .171, the GFI is .990, and the RMSEAis .045. Those three crucial measurements have been appropriate to obtain the fit model. It is expected that the simulation data can explain the proposed model. Beside that it is proved that the biological factor is the covariance of the cultural influence (p < .05).

Abstract

Eighty five employees of a private hospital participated in this study. They are recruited randomly from a finite population (545 employees). Objective of this study is to verify the strength of psychological empowerment as the mediator variable between independent variable (transformational leadership) and two dependent variables (job satisfaction and organizational commitment). There are also four instruments 1). The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire short form (MSQ-short Form), validity ranged from .470-.808, the Cronbach Alpha for reliability coefficient was .912. 2). Organizational Commitment Scale, validity ranged from .370-.851, the Cronbach Alpha for reliability coefficient was .829. 3). The Transformational Leadership Scale, validity ranged from .429-.856, the Cronbach Alpha for reliability coefficient was .966. 4). The Psychological Empowerment Scale, validity ranged from .553-.819, the Cronbach Alpha for reliability coefficient was .914. The hypothesis is that there is a mediation relationship between transformational leadership and job satisfaction and also organizational commitment. This study revealed that the mediator variable is quite strong for the job satisfaction variable. However, the mediator variable is less likely strong for the organizational commitment. It may there were other variables which also influence the dependent variable. Those other variables, however, were not in this research.

In order to continue to exist, those employees had been rotated into the selling devition. This research revealed that the employee’s previous knowledge and skill were less appropriate to the selling division requirement. They had difficulties in public speaking and information technology. They were also more likely ashamed with the organization although their work tenure was more than 20 years. This was shown from their answer that they had limited knowledege about the positive aspects of the organiation. At the discussion session, we explain that this research result could be a good base for planning and organiziang job rotation. Beside that the middle age employees should be taken care when they experience job rotation. Management should organize several trainings which emphasize on repetitive tasks. Abstract

Objective of this research is to describe the protective and risk factors in the social reintegration program within a penitentiary. Thirty female convicted criminals were participated in this survey research. At the next several months, they would be released from that penitentiary. They were asked to fill in the Protective and Risk Factor Scale. The scale consists of 15 protective aspect statements 15 risk aspect statements. There were 4 alternative answers for each statement. Validity of those statements was examined through the expert validity, and the reliability score of the scale was .884. Through the descriptive statistics it was revealed that the empirical mean (42.87) was higher than the hypothetic mean (37.5), for the protective factor. For the risk factor, the similar result was found which the empirical mean (40.80) was much higher than the hypothetic mean (37.5). This result showed that those convicted criminals were fully aware that protective factors will support their intention live convenience after being released. On the other hand, they also realize that some factors will obstruct their intention to live happily after being released. At the discussion session, the author suggests to consider the convicted criminal’s culture background. It is because the culture background will color people’s stigma on the exconvicted criminal.

Youth life that usually rely on peers and also being demanded to be independent and assertive, are certainly confusing for adolescence. Comparing to adult, peer is the most important influence for adolescence. Therefore, to be assertive and independent to have opinion is a risky for teens. This preliminary research aim is to investigate the internal and external factors attributing the assertive behavior on a subject. This research is unique since the subject lives in a dormitory, and therefore she has complex problems i.e. adaptation for new environment, home sick, and peer demanding on conformity. The research revealed that the subject relies more on her peer than to her parents. She tends to be non assertive and low self-esteem. Suggestion for the next research is discussed.

Abstract

Mathematical ability is crucial for students since it contributes to their cognitive development and also their graduation. Student with low math ability is likely to be a school dropout. However, the math ability is influenced by two factors, internal and external factors. The internal factorsare numerous such as math anxiety, negative perception toward math, unpleasant experience about math, and low selfefficacy on math. The external factors are also numerous i.e. negative perceptions among math teachers on student's ability, unprofessional teacher, uncreative teacher, and punitive teacher. Two subjects participated in this preliminary research. One subject has positive perception toward math, whilst the rest has negative perception. This research intends to understand the factors contributing to the low score on math. This study revealed that student with positive perception is more likely to enjoy math learning process and able to cope with boredom. Student with negative perception, on the other hand, has difficulties in learning process and tend to boredom. Several limitations of this preliminary research are discussed.

Abstract

Breaking rules is more likely an important characteristic among adolescences. This is also occurred in a pesantren (Islamic boarding school). The adolescence santri broke the pesantren rules because of two factors, internal and external. The internal factors underlie the breaking rules behavior comprised three things i.e. low self-control, egocentrism, and aggressive. The external factor, on the other hand, influenced the adolescence santri through several reasons i.e. peer conformity, immoral behavior among the pesantren caretakers. Subject of this preliminary research is a male adolescence. He is chosen since he was reported to have several breaking rule behaviors. This qualitative research confirmed the theory on internal and external factors influencing the breaking rules behavior. Several limitation and suggestion for the preliminary research are discussed.
